'Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died'

Shocked to hear it - I grew up with her music, makes you think about your own mortality. I think she was on the 'comeback' as well. I think we can all blame Bobby Brown for what happened - she was on top of the world before she met him.

Unbeleivable!

I have had a music show on from MAX "Top 100 Songs From The Movies" running for background noise.

They just got to the Number One of all time:

I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston.

Unfortunately when you have an addiction it is very hard to "just stop" even if you want to; you have to have a very strong support system which being married to Bobby we can agree that she did not.

Drugs, alcohol or whatever else, unfortunately sometimes these addictions lead to death. I grew up in an alcoholic home, my step-fathers addiction killed him ( but he worked every day, he was what they call a functioning alcoholic).

I am addicted to caffeine although not nearly as bad as alcohol or drugs, but it is an addiction all the same, it is very bad for my health, I have a health condition that is actually aggravated when I have too much, but I still can't stay away from it to long (caffeine withdraws gives a horrible headache that makes you wish you would die), but anyway please don't judge people with addictions, it is a terrible disease that affects different people in different ways including the folks that have to deal with that person.

Been sober for 17years 2weeks ago from drugs and grog thanks to the fellowship of alcoholics anonymous.

Once you make a decision and choose for absolute change, the rest naturally flows on as long as you work the 12 step program.

With what I know today I personally don't have time for celebrities that have access to the best support facilities and personal in the world and choose not to take it up.

They are just simply drug addicts or alcoholics like millions of others around the world of which tens of thousands have recovered.

This disease does not discriminate!! I have sat next to Politicians,Priests, Movie Stars right thru to the homeless park drunk.I have respect to all those who try and cry for change.. to the best of their ability.

It can be done ...no excuses..

Thanks AL

I think that you may find that she did stop, a while ago!
That's what put her on the comeback trail and she did some concerts recently. Just a shame that her voice was shot.

Being motivated by the love you have for your daughter is a powerful thing.

Houston became one of the most decorated singers in history, setting world records and signing some of the biggest recording and movie contracts ever offered to any star. However, reports of drug and alcohol problems were issued frequently during this time, until media sources reported that less than one year ago in May of 2011, Whitney Houston was again admitted to a drug rehab center;

“Singer Whitney Houston is back in rehab. Her spokeswoman Kristen Foster said in a statement to ABCNews.com, “I can confirm that Whitney Houston is currently in an outpatient rehab program for drug and alcohol treatment. Whitney voluntarily entered the program to support her long-standing recovery process.” (2)

The star would be dead a mere 9 months later amid reports of poor performances, cancelled concerts and media accounts that Houston reeked of booze and would behave erratically. And while it’s still uncertain at this time what the exact cause of her death was, it’s difficult for many people to imagine that drugs or alcohol were not involved in some way. But whatever the case may be, Whitney Houston’s sudden death is a reminder that recovery is a lifelong process – it is a process that must be worked every day in order to be effective.

which is why I said it is very hard, - not making any excuses for her, but the fact that she was always in the spotlight and being scrutinized for every little thing - that is a HEAVY burden to bear for anyone

Then get out of the spotlight... and maybe you'll get a few years of quality in your life.Van Morrison did it as did many others.

well as I said I'm not making excuses for her- I just don't sit in judgment of anyone when my own personal life has not been a rose garden. We all make mistakes, some more detrimental than others; some of us have tremendous will power, some lack in this area; every adult at one point in his life has said "I wish, I shoulda, woulda, coulda." no matter what else, at the end of the day she was somebody's daughter, mother, friend, a human being and if we don't think she deserves any compassion certainly they do.

I saw something similar to this the other day on a humour website:

Someone asks "God, why did you take Whitney and MJ, instead of Justin Bieber and Brittany Spears?" God replies, "Because I don't want to hear lousy music in heaven."

Whitney Houston died just hours after being asked to be a judge on the next season of X-Factor.

Personally I think she made the right decision.
