Leeds D seems not to have been as prolific as Leeds A, B or C. It also seems not to have used slogans. But three envelopes only from the period out of a total of 82 and the dates of the postmarks might point to Leeds D being an overflow cancellation applied during November to January.

Ninelands. Garforth Leeds

20 September 1971. With a star over the date.

2 November 1999. Without a star over the date.

Garforth is a town within the City of Leeds metropolitan borough, in West Yorkshire. The 2001 Census lists 23,892 residents. Ninelands is a sub-post office.

Ninelands Garforth is at the back of this newsagents.

Holbeck B.O. Leeds

14 September 1908. Squared circle.

This is on a card with the location added with a handstamp:

Holbeck is on the southern edge of the Leeds city centre. The M1 motorway used to end in Holbeck. Slum clearances and urban regeneration have depleted the population since this card was sent.

Holbeck Post Office in 1929.

Middlesbrough Yorkshire. A.

With a picture of Middlesbrough Town Hall.

Middlesborough was in the North Riding of Yorkshire. In 1968 the town became the centre of the County Borough of Teesside, which was absorbed by the County of Cleveland in 1974. In 1996 Cleveland was abolished, and Middlesbrough became a unitary authority within North Yorkshire.

A postal census triangle with "655" in it and with 7 wavy lines. Applied in Sheffield on 14 or 15 October 1969 according to the sender's message and the postmark - which is partial but does say "FFIELD".

Hathersage Sheffield

The postmark is on the back of a card sent from Sheffield to Mexborough, but misdelivered to Hathersage and then forwarded to its correct address.

Hathersage is a village in the Derbyshire Peak District. It lies on the north bank of the River Derwent, approximately 16 km west of Sheffield. Although not in Yorkshire, it is still in the Sheffield postal area and now has the postcode S32.
