Hi!
This One penny green South Australian Sideface Roulette dated Feb1863
appears to have quite a shift in the print on the lower right hand corner.
On closer inspection if you look at the word Penny from the letter( P ) there is about a 2 millameter downward shift in the print.
Also if you line the inner and outer circle just above the( P) you will see they to do not line up either.
Could somebody please explain the shift ?
Regards
Brickie143 :)

You'd better scan the back as it looks like repaired tear to me. :(
I can see it going straight up through the Queens neck, across her ears and behind her head. The lower part of the cancel is covering it at the point you mentioned.

I'd say Allanswood is right--on the reverse is an area more solid than the surrounding paper where the tear is, and its visible on the front in the Queen's head.

Have a look along the red line area with a mag glass. It's been well done and as Aethelwulf mentioned, looks like it follows the thickened cleaner paper area on the rear, but looks like a repair and at first glance might not be noticed.

Hi again!
Thanks for your expertise.
I would like to ask you two more questions about this stamp please?
The first being that the box in the top right hand and bottom right corners both appear not to be completed on the insides.
My second question is could the thickness on the back of the stamp be an old hinge?
Regards
Brickie :)

Dipping the stamp in watermark fluid should reveal the
repair.
