God sent an Angel down to earth, to touch Ron on the shoulder and say
"It is time,
there is a need for you elsewhere
where there are no spellin polisario.
.
To prove the heavenly peace of Heaven is real,
God requires a Collingwood supporter to open the Pearly Gates
and be the first to greet Jim Stynes."

My condolences to you and your family on the lost of your daughter.
Below is a poem that is very close to me since 2009, and hope it helps in some small way.
GJ50

I thought of you with love today
but that is nothing new
I thought about you yesterday
and days before that too,
I think of you in silence
I often speak your name
All I have are memories
and your picture in a frame
Your memory is my keepsake
with which I will never part
your spirit lives within me,
forever in my heart

Good grief, what a surprise, I don't believe it!

We will remember Mr. Boggler, that's for sure, he was a great member and always very helpful.

R.I.P. Mr Boggler.

A mob of us all put in $50 a year or so ago, and Mr B bought us a lot at auction, and split it up in a way that he thought would suit our collecting interests.

One real rarity surfaced concerning the 2/6 Aboriginal watermark. My lot was the second best investment I have ever made in philately.

The best I ever made was knowing Mr Boggler.

I went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom,
so I had a sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
that I didn't drink and drive,
though some friends said I should.
I made a healthy choice,

And your advice to me was right.
The party finally ended,
and the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece.
I never knew what was coming, Mom,
something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
the kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
this girl is going to die.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high.
Because he chose to drink and drive,
now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
like a hundred stabbing knives.

Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven,
put ' Mommy's Girl' on my grave.

Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.

My heartfelt condolence to Ron and the beautiful young girl who died in a crash. :(
Very sorry to hear about the sad demise of a stamp genius.

Mrboggler.

It was an honor to have known you,
a privilege to call you "Boss"
You had a certain way about you,
that just filled a room with warmth.

Knowledge and Friendship you shared so freely,
You always had time for a Chat
Your Family and Friends you held close chiefly,
Even if you could never choose a proper Hat. :D

Good Bye Mr B
Sincerely , Jason

My condolences to his family and friends, it is always sad to hear that someone you know (in person or online) has passed away :( One is sure, stampboards community will miss him and will remember him for a long time!

As mentioned in comments he was probably one of the most useful and friendliest (although sometime grumpy :) ) members and helped many, me including, to find their way around stampboards, he had huge knowledge and didn't mind spreading it around generously.

May you rest in peace Ron!

MrBoggler was a decent person, a knowledgable philatelist and a willing helper. On many occasions he shared his knowledge with me. A deep sense of loss at this tragic news....

As we would say in Hindi ...

Eeshwar unki aatmaa ko shanti de ..(may God give peace to his soul..)

RIP Ron...you shall be missed in many parts of the world..

Glen is in NZ, and has asked me to organise the large floral tribute funded from many StampBoard members, which I will do today.

He would like someone to take a photo of the flowers, my camera isn't in working order at present, would one (or more) of those that are going, be willing to take on that responsibility so that it can be posted here on StampBoards?

Thanks in advance.

I will be making a donation to a charity (either Heart Foundation or Cancer Council as I don't know what Mr.B would have liked).

I would also like to send a card to his family but I do not know where to send it, can anyone help me?

There is little that I can add to all that has been said about the truly remarkable man that Ron was and will remain in our memories.

You will be truly missed, Ron; rest in peace now, good friend.

My heartfelt condolences to Ron's family, friends and to us, here and elsewhere.

Mr Boggler, Mr Boggler, Mr Boggler..........

The last time I will write that opening down I guess. I enjoyed our little jousts with Ron regarding his erratic use of the simple comma.

I was going to try to write this tribute the way he writes, but he was unique in his humour and knowledge.

I never got to meet him in person but I always respected his insights and understanding of different aspects of stamp collecting.

I hope there may be someone knowledgeable who could write some kind of obituary about the man, here on SB.

Rest in Peace Mr Boggler. I am sure there is a stamp collection up there waiting to be sorted.

Selvedge, I am glad you didn't try to copy his style.

It was something unique to him.

I agree, it would be great if someone could write an obituary about him and his contributions to Stampboards.

I would love to see it.

Unfortunately I am not the one to attempt it.

God I miss him !!!

Gee what a shock! I have know Ron for a few years now having first met him at Nunawading on a Sunday arvo. He also introduced me to the Croydon fair.

I considered him a very honest and straight forward guy and a true gentleman of the stamp trade.

He was always willing to provide advice on all things related to the hobby and was good for a chat too !

Ron and Harry at Nunawading are like two peas in a pod, and it will surely be a sad state at the next Nunawading fair without him being there.

I offer my condolences to his family. He will be missed. RIP Ron.

Robin.

I just logged on during my teabreak and found this dreadful news.

This is a big shock.

Mr B was one of the first people to greet me here on Stampboards and I am right now planning a trip to Melbourne for the 2013 exhibition. Meeting up to shoot the breeze was one of my plans.

RIP Mr B

I will really miss your comments.

Each morning I wake up, hoping it was just a nightmare. With great regret, I am not going to be able to attend the funeral.

I doubt I will be able to attend the Nunnawading fair on Sunday either, don't think I could handle it! Most of the time I only ever attended to have a chat with Ron.

Peter,

Perfectly, understandable. I also know that Ron would understand.

From personal experience I can say that it will get easier. But it does take time.

And that time is different for everyone.

You will know within yourself when that time has started to come.

I log in for the first time in a week and see this...just so shocked and saddened...

I can add nothing more to what others have said.

What people have written over these pages is in itself a perfect obituary.

Vale Ron. Condolences to his family.

If I can organise some annual leave for tomorrow I shall attend the funeral.

I too was looking forward to getting back on Stampboards today after a frantic week away. Now I feel like someone has kicked me in the guts.

I live up near Bendigo now but I grew up in Croydon and when I needed to go back there a few months ago, I couldn't resist calling into the shop to meet the famous Mr Boggler. Actually, I went there a few months earlier but he was unfortunately away.

Although it was the first time I had met Ron, he treated me as if I was an old friend and I stayed so long, I nearly missed the last train home. I was happily browsing through the boxes and collections when I saw a stamp I wanted in a large album.

I would have bought the album for the one stamp but Ron simply pulled out the stamp and handed it to me, refusing any payment and ruining the Scottish reputation for being stingy.

I was in Hawthorn last week and almost jumped on the Croydon train but then decided that I didn't really have time so I put it off till next time. Tomorrow I'll get the Croydon train but just to say goodbye. R.I.P. Ron.

Ron obviously touched a lot of lives for the better.

He helped define the tone of this board, helped make it what it is today.

His words will live on in here.

Thank you Ron.

Agree 100%.

And many thanks to Ann Wiggy for organising the very large bouquet of flowers for the service, from many of his friends at stampboards, and to the many members who generously and privately contributed to it.

VALE Ron and condolences again to Scott and the family.

A very sad day indeed. :(

I lost a friend today.

He was my friend, though I never got to shake his hand.
I read his words, though I never got to hear his voice.
Morning tea was much more fun, though I never got to share a cuppa.
Yet he voted me a member of his club.

And yet I lost a friend today.

Grab the pipes and drums and join in the band.
Let’s play a tune, one that was his choice.
We’ll down a dram, ponder good times and have some supper.
To the founder of the Grump Old Mens Club.

Apostrophes can now rest easy, the spellin polis are unemployed,
But it was the banter, the advice, the fun we enjoyed.
A friendship forged over our hobby, though far apart,
A least I didn’t have to gag when Philly dropped a fart!

So turn to the one beside you and give them a hug if you can,
Or shake their hand and remember the man.
Even though he’ll nay give a hoot,
We’ll ge the man a 21 stamp salute.

To a father, a husband, a carer and friend...
To Ron!

To Auld Lang Syne

Greg,

That was beautiful. That was inspired. It sums up perfectly what so many of us feel.

Thank you.

To all of you who are able to go to his funeral today -

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Both for yourselves and for the family.

I am happy to give a bit of a report on the 'Celebration of Ron's life' this afternoon. I'm sure that many others will be able to add more, but this is a start and will be some of my thoughts and impressions.

There was a piper who played at the beginning and the end, at the start it was Amazing Grace followed by 'Good old Collingwood Forever' an interesting combination.

Scott, his son gave the main eulogy, and as at most funerals you find out a lot more about a person from a wider perspective, the two aspects that impressed me (aside from the stamp aspect of course) were his loving support to his wife Margaret and to his son Scott, and by extension to many of Scott's friends, to whom he was a 'father figure'.

Bill (waroff) from GOMC had also been asked to speak so he well represented the GOMC and other Stampboards members.

I don't know how many of 'us' were there but someone else might be able to enlarge on that.

The only other thing I will mention is that the floral tribute contributed to by many is/was beautiful. I haven't yet seen a photograph but there were some taken, and hopefully in due course they will be posted.

The flowers are going to go with Margaret to her hospital room so that, I think, is special.

I hope this gives a bit of a picture for you all.

Thanks for the first hand report Ann for those of us unable to attend.

Appreciate you taking the member donated funds to organise the classy floral tribute and wonderful to hear it was passed on to widow Margaret to take with her.

The Ceremony was truly moving.

How Scott managed to give the Eulogy in such a stable manner is beyond amazing.

I learnt so much more about Ron, that he would never have said about himself & his achievements, truly a remarkable person. I just wish I had more time with him.

Bill,(Waroff) read out the poem from Allanswood, and did a good job for the GOMC and Stampboards.

Fercon Jerry shouted a Coffee van at the end, which was excellent. A hit of caffeine was needed.

I saw a few flashes from Philly (the camera kind !) so maybe some photos coming.

All in all, a very fitting Remembrance, for a very Remarkable Human being.

R.I.P. Ron, Thank You.

Steve

It was amazing listening to Scott's Eulogy of his father. The there were eulogies from Scott's mates of many years which shed a greater insight into Ron, the man. On Reading Allanswood's poem (I think which is included above), you should have seen the smirks on the faces when I got to the line about Philly's farts. Some broke up completely. After the service many people came up to me and said how refreshing they thought theGOMC were and political incorrectness seemed to be a dead thing.

Everyone was impressed with the service and most stood in the cold, wet Melbourne weather to drink Fercon Jerry's coffee (Oh, yes the mention of Fercon Jerry brought a smile to all their faces as well- I had to explain the Fercon was the engineering company he worked for).

Present- MrBoggler, Philly, Fletches1, Annwiggy, jjarmstrong47, Parryone, Muruk, King Tut and me. Plus GOMC's- Old harry, Fercon Jerry, Bruce (goldfinger) Andre, Phil (walrus), Big Phil, Ted the butcher. There were also 4-5 from the Ringwood Philatelic Society and Mooroolbark Society.. All in all there were about 80 people there.

Margie was there on day leave from the hospital and couldn't wait to get outside and have a ciggie or five.

There were only a few floral tributes, mainly from Stampboards and TheGOMC which were absolutely beautiful. (Philly was the photographer but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting to see the photos- he hasn't posted one ,in all his time on SBds.)

All in all, a fitting tribute to a generous man.

p.s. Brummie- I gave him a kiss from you and to all the drinkers, I said we will lift a wee dram for you Ron.

Thank you all for representing us on such a sad occasion.

We will not see any more posts from MrB but his 10435 valuable posts will remain on the Board forever. Can I suggest Glen that a new rank of Life Member be created and applied to the profile of mrboggler.

I've just had a wee dram of 18 year old Glenlivet that I've been keeping for a special occassion, seems somehow very fitting to toast a good man :!:

Requiescat in pace, Ron.

I would like to endorse Kevin Hedleys proposal.

I think the rank of "Life Member" is a wonderful and fitting final tribute to Mr B. from Stampboards.

I do realise that it is something new. However, I doubt if anybody would disagree that Mr B. has certainly earned the title.

I can change the wording to anything at all however I suspect, knowing Ron that he'd be pretty pleased with what he has now. That was bestowed on him by member vote, and he told me that recognition from his peers meant a lot to him.

That was earned, not awarded, and so was his 10,000 post level Green Emerald, that he was very proud to have achieved, with no counting threads in sight - especially seeing it took him about 2 years to get to 100 posts. And I needed to badger him to even do that.
