.Reminds me of giveing driving lessons to my younger brother-in-law.
On the first lesson we were driveing along the Great Ocean Road, near Anglesea, and he kept speeding up to 100kms, or more, keeping in the traffic.
I thought it would be better to get off the main road, and onto a smaller road without other cars, so told him to turn off to the left at the next side road.
He did, onto a much quieter dirt track.
I had presumed that he would also slow down before doing so........D'uh

Love it. :D :D :D

In my part of the world that is entirely possible. GPS around here often take people where there is no road ... but the driver goes where told regardless, ultimately exercising our emergency response people.

I read about the guy in Germany that sued the GPS maker. He was travelling along the autobahn and the GPS said "turn left", so he did, Straight off the bridge and not the on ramp!

It also helps if people remember that GPS needs to be updated from time to time - their not automatic!

I don't have one and never will. I see a map, look at the route, its in my head now, lets go.

PS -Sooo many GPS do not work through the country side. As you leave Sydney you drive into "finding/recalculating" until you reach the outskirts of Canberra (300 km down the road) and then it finds itself again.

Hope all is well with the "happy wanderer". He will be pleased to know his avocado has survived (noooooooo!)

GPS....the MOTH relies on his, but the last time we went camping we had an issue with his 'girlfriend'. In Benalla we wanted to get from road X to road Y and she told him there was a short-cut. I had a street map and the information was in direct conflict with 'her' instructions.

The road started off fine...the track it turned into wasn't bad...to begin with...the sad (?   ) part was when we came to the gate of the cow-paddock (padlocked, of course) and could see our road about 100 metres, and two fences, away...

Did I ever mention I'm very fond of maps :D

McGooley, if the avocado survived, then it must because of your gentle nuturing, excellent soil, and rainfall and humdity, combined with the lullaby of your gentle singing to the plants, bush turkey fertiliser, green thumbs........

So peterS are you saying spiders down under get bigger than that one? I was doing more research for my postal strike exhibit and I discovered these strikes that occurred they ran from 1 day to indefinate they are:
Greece 2011-12 Kuwait 2012
India 2012 Norway 2010
Egypt 2012 Spain 2012
Brazil 2011
Sri Lanka 2011
Morocco 2012

I will include them in my synopsis introduction and the what is not covered since no postal material was issued or known to currently exist, but the news reports cover them. I hope the judges appreciate my continued research. I also found material for the 2007 and 2009 UK postal strikes one a set of 4 machins mailed during the 2009 strike and a FDC issued during the 2007. I also found a 1955 railroad strike that forced mail to go by airmail with map.

The search continues I add to my webpage favorates the pages that have the info on these strikes, most are the countries postal union sites.

The spider in the video is a Coastal Golden Orb Weaver. The snake must be quite small as the spiders body is just 21mm long (1 inch) with very long legs.
It makes very large webs though.

IIRC, there are bird-eating spiders....not sure if we can lay claim to them though.

Any Huntsman who happens to be under a rock, or piece of wood, that I go to pick up is easily 100 times bigger than these fellas - promise

Thanks to SB, I learned about the Huntsman spider...and have delayed booking a ticket to Oz anytime soon.

In the Amazon there is a tarantula that eats birds. The biggest tarantula I ever saw there had a leg span of 12 inches, over 25 cm. absolutely huge! The native Indians will cook the spider in a banana leave in the fire and eat it.

I thought there wasn't much that I couldn't come at eating. Sorry, that's one of them.

FYI, I don't like spiders........

Well folks,I'm still alive. Today my sister and I went to the Zig-Zag railway and down the side of the valley, amazing what they built with only picks and shovels and few sticks of black powder. Also went to the 2 sisters + 1.- absolutely dramatic apart from the rain ( seems every time I travel north of the border it rains.).

Got some amazing shots which I will post when I get home in a week or so.

No. I was hoping I had a few fans. Perhaps not... sulking of to order Pizza for din-din's. Back to the dungeon to plot LOW unauthorised reprints.

PS - I added a post to the Spidey thread to and its not coming up either!
It's a conspiracy of fear.

I just discovered a booklet of the 1932 Shanghai postal strike coupons at a interasia auction comming up, but the opening estimate is HK$4000 or US$515.42 the auction man suggests if I really want it I should bid HK$7000 or US$901.99 and hope I get it at that price.

Problem is I don't have it the money, I don't even have May rent and that e-bay auction in January just when I got out of the hospital was only US$60 and I couldn't get it because my accounts were froze. I am beginning to believe I will never get one of these items. I hope someone can find one and help me get it at a price I can afford. My job is not paying the hours so who knows.

Minutes of the GOMC Tuesday meeting.
 Morning session; :? :? How would I know, it was raining, cold, dark and miserable, except in my warm bed.
:D :D Afternoon session, was attended by the Silver Fox aka Harry and Ye Olde Philanthropist together with Fercon Jerry.
Hot chocolate was served, and then I produced my tin of ANZAC biscuits
The others were shocked,   and told me to hide them, quickly, before we were thrown out, and barred.
Aerogrammes and a nice old collection together with more Registeration labels were produced for Show'n'Tell.
A couple of Back'of'the'Hand deals were transacted, in the absence of the Sextrary  :? :?

InterAsia is pretty fair with their catalogue estimates, and for things to go for more is not unusual. In the PRC material, just about everything ends up 50% over estimate--they quote the price material was selling for at the last sale, and of course in a red-hot market 6 months in the past might as well be the days of Moses. Some auction houses in HK put silly estimates on material, and then have pretty low sell-through rates.

I have my eye on one particular lot in the sale that seems highly undervalued from the description. Will check it out at the preview, but have been cringing at the thought of what the final hammer could be.

Someone changed the ringtone on my mobile and I can't reset it. It keeps playing the Marseillaise. :o

The Spider thing comes up, posted at 11. 20. 56 this morning in the "View Your Posts" list at the top right of screen,
BUT not in the "View New Posts" button next to it.

Strange??? :?

Two possibilities:

1. The post is a page higher in one search than the other.

2. It's in that counting forum that doesn't come up on the "view new posts" search any more ... you have to go look for it manually.

Suggestion ... why not just insert a link in one of your posts?

No good asking me about cold.

Over 8 degrees I start feeling the heat.

I'm comfortable today, so logic suggests that it may be cold.

Here's the spidey link: http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=13944

You get bells for posts? That's a new one to me.

Have a bell on me in any case. I have some red stuff to bring down next visit, then you can have a proper celebrate.

Remember the board has a switch set so that Counting threads don't come up in the new posts lists.
Maybe something like that applies to the spidey thread.
(edit: sorry Muruk already said that  Now there's an echo  )

Like all good spiders we know it's lurking somewhere, but not in plain sight

They say everyone swallows an average of 6 spiders in their SLEEP, in their lifetime

Question, in my postal strike exhibit I have a page for the 1922 Irish postal strike and up till now no material available that mentions it, but there is a cover that was mailed during the post strike the cds has a date during it, can I include it in my exhibit? I disclose the dates of the Irish strike on the page.

The American Philatelic Society has informed me that my two postal strike articles will be published in either July 2012 or August 2012. The responce from those at the APS who read it say that they never had an article to discuss this and they love it also, I hope these articles will help judges and collectors I also want to be a expert in something stamp related.

Douglas, hard to see how you could include the page without something philatelicaly relevant. But I am not a judge. :D
