eBay seller monkymonky must have seen some Gandhi stuff going for big prices, and thinks that his poor little badly torn and creased stamp worth one cent on an excellent day if in good condition is worth GBP 1,000

It's got Gandhi on it. It must be rare!

Only Blind Freddy would pay even a penny for that torn thing. :(

Maybe its 1000 quid as its actually a rare unissued stamp paying tribute to Ben Kingsley.

Must be the "NM" classification ... don't think I've seen that before.

I guess it is worth the USD 250 or BIN USD 1000 since it is a handmade album... never mind the stamps.

Can't be a Chinese book, they supposedly don't get browned the way those pages are...but if it were German the whole thing would be falling apart.

We have no idea as to the value of it, so consequently it is listed at a (maybe) ridiculous price.
In the hope that any serious Philatelist will be prepared to ask to come and view it.

There are stamps from the Third Reich, and from the UK we have George V, George VI, Edward VII, Edward VIII, and Elizabeth II.

If travel is too far to view, please email us with any questions, we will endeavour to answer as best we can.

Local pick up only..Damn!

Now relisted at GBP 25,000, half the original asking price.

Seven or eight more listings, halving the price each time should get it down to a realistic price.

Okay, first off enjoying the thread although I admit to only reading the first 2 pages and the last 3. The bit I have read has me howling.

I have had to educate the boyfriend about stamps in the last bit. He is a bit of a generalist when it comes to collecting and sometimes I think he collects things just because. I don't know, however jJust becasue it is old he thinks it is valuable. This may be true with some things, i.e. anitque furniture this is definitely not true with stamps.

I hate to say it, but he would be one of the people that would have fallen for one or two of those listings, at least until I met him that is.

Anyway, please keep them comming, I need a laugh now and then.

If you never read anything else, you really ought to look at Page 5 of this thread (from about 3/4's of the way down through pretty much all of page 6. Dreamer of the Century.

This Dreamer summed up the fate of 99.9% of the material showcased in this thread.

(Not to mention that even sane people rarely put it up for sale in the first place, as "we" know you can't move it at any price to informed collectors. At a flea market to non-collectors though... "Wowwww, look, stamps with Hitler on them! And this one has a face value of 100,000! This dealer doesn't know what he has, offering these for only five bucks")

Both the Geo V lots have been withdrawn as "no longer available", the same day they were listed. Who got to him?

ozyon12 has this beauty currently listed at BIN AU$2,700 or make offer.

They state in listing "Special Polska stamp. Kept in my stamp collection for over 30 years. Features in many expos"

I am not an expert in Polish stamps but would love to know what expos it has been featured in!

Straight out of the o2ke marketing guide, who is offering another utterly worthless Polish stamp for AUD 3,145 or BIN AUD 3590

o2ke has graced this thread on many occasions, and has an interesting take on the english language,.

And an earlier discription, if that's the term I'm groping for, in one of his many failed attepts to sell this stamp:

Quote:
Polska

Collector peice, an average sized stamp excellent preservation. Stamps such as this are admired, unique and official.

This particular stamp was a feature at a world traveling expo. Communities all around the world often enjoy this occation. - Very, very good condition -

Private collection peice auction. This stamp is a perfect compliment to the hobby. This BLACK 'corrective' feature make this a favorite in my collection and it is on auction here on eBay.

There is only one in my collection. Unique and gifted are the corrective BLACK. This makes any stamp collection even more admirable.

This stamp entered my collection during a communtiy hand~out event shortly after it's tour ending.

This one is more "cute" but needs posting here because of one statement. From seller biff1918, and for USD 1,499 we get this.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ELVIS-PRESLE ... 43af74b4b6

Quote:
A TOTAL OF 63 ELVIS PRESLEY MINT NEVER HINGED SHEETS

WITH COLOURED 22222 IN LOWER LEFT CORNER.

all 63 for one money.A TOTAL OF 2520 STAMPS

free shipping within the continental u.s. and canada AS REGULAR PARCEL POST .

MORE IF YOU REQUEST EXPEDITED OR REGISTERED.

HERE IS A CHANCE TO CORNER THE MARKET.

Image

How many Elvis stamps were sold? 124,700,000 , so I suspect that 2,520 will not do a whole lot of cornering. And he wants double face for stamps which are essentially postage fodder.

I see eBay 'sales' (I use the term VERY loosely) and have to wonder where these people come from and then I think to the television and the various shows that have populated the US market and realise they are EVERYWHERE! If some of these people had been in charge back during the dark ages would fire have even been discovered, or the wheel?

It seems that the fame of the Uglies has spread to Argentina. Seller Celestamps in Buenos Aires is expecting somewhere north of $US399 for this lot of Jammu & Kashmir

Image

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370611896829

There are a few small difficulties with this, though. Stamps 3, 4 and 5 are worthless forgeries, and the remaining stamps, in good condition, would catalogue £18 - of which the cut-into last stamp accounts for £14.

Well, nothing wrong with unbridled optimism, I suppose.

OK, here's one from seller unicorntechs: "Malta 1902 1p on 2 1/2p, Scott #20b double surch ?, VF-U. Scott '11 CV $4500.00"

Image

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160798892398

But it Now at $4500

Of course that is not the double surcharge. It's just an overinked example. Such varieties are common with this issue and other Government Printing Office overprints (all of Malta's overprints from 1902 to 1928). This is the error:

Here's my nomination for Shirtfront of the Year:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Patiala-India-Indian-States-Br-Commonwealth-KEDVII-ERROR-OVPT-PATIAEA-PAIR-/310394176514?pt=UK_Stamps_CommonwealthStamps_GL&hash=item4844ef44

from eBay seller creativityplus4, who seems to have more than his fair share of bad luck in picking up duds for resale.

Described as "Patiala, India, Indian States. Br.Commonwealth, KEDVII. ERROR OVPT PATIAEA INSTEAD OF PATIALA PAIR. EXTREEMLY RARE." and yours BIN for £5000 or you can make an offer.

This error is so EXTREEMLY RARE that in the past century or so, it's escaped the eagle eye of the Gibbons editor. Or could it have something to do with the fact that the 'E' has been crudely added by hand?

Spot on. He couldn't even make an 'L' look like an 'E' properly.

Another ebay seller thrown into the 'Name and Shame' bin.

Looks like creativityplus4 is looking to make a quick score so as to fund his retirement. Just wait for Walmart to enter the India market, then creativityplus4 can become a "Greeter", that's a job that's hard to stuff up, unlike the job he did on the Patiaea overprints.

I'm waiting with great interest to see the 'many items like these'. I can always do with a good laugh.

I see eBay 'sales' (I use the term VERY loosely)

A sale would be a completed transaction, or in an auction setting, someone has to have at least put in a bid. To be pedantic, the gallery of rarities we present here are simply offers. You could run an auction full of kiddie kollections or fiddled-with stamps priced at pie-in-the-sky four or five figures, you wouldn't stay in business long.

(Oh but wait, that's what Feldman did offering the "headless 'Roo, and their much-touted inaugural HK sale was a disaster of unsolds due to silly estimates; Gartner has received heavy flak for its Indian States offerings lately too).

Well sure they would have...while the medieval-era equivalent to Kardashian-followers were busy getting all excited hoping to catch a glimpse of a fair maiden or mountain spirit or the bogeyman, the small, educated clique comprised of such as Dark Ages philatelists, would actually be doing something productive in life.

How many years has society been set back by reality TV and People magazine? Gene Roddenberry set Star Trek in the 23rd century, but that was in the 1960s, following the harnessing of nuclear power, the invention of the computer...life was looking up at that time.

Oh, come come, Aethelwulf! For years, creativityplus4's been providing innocent entertainment for the masses with his startling selection of used high values of stamps noone else has seen or been able to obtain. I doubt that even Blind Freddy would be taken in.

Yet another eBay seller who starts to hyperventilate at the sight of an Indian States stamp.

Seller cassahar (feedback score 95.5%) offers these Poonch stamps

Image

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160807613688

with the heading 'India Priencely Poonch State stamps . SUPER RARE, RARE', I suppose leaving it to the reader to decide whether they're 'SUPER RARE' or just 'RARE'. Or perhaps the first stamp is the 'SUPER RARE' one and the other is merely 'RARE'.

Cassahar goes on to assure us 'Great lot of this 2 Indian Poonch Stamps Red and Yellow very Rare ones in good condition. These are scott's book price in the thousands.' I've said before that I don't have a very high opinion of Scott, but I can't believe it would value these two 'in the thousands', unless it's cents we're talking about.

The precise type of paper the stamps are on is everything with Poonch. Taking the most likely prices for the rather dodgy photos, I'd suggest the Gibbons catalogue value is £12.50. The 'SUPER RARE' one appears to be an SG 32 - £5.50 to buy from Gibbons. On that basis, I have a lot of SUPER RARE, not to mention EXTRA SUPER RARE stamps in my collection. Maybe I should be grateful to cassahar for upgrading my collection for me.

 Damn, Tony, I was thinking about bidding on that lot!!!

Now you've spoiled ALL my fun

Obviously? these people don't have catalogues/ don't know how to read catalogues/ read auction sites and mis-interpret values for stamps....or just take a BIG guess!

I know, that in working out my stamp value, if the first one I find is a high value one, I immediately back track... I'm not that lucky!!! When I've researched it a bit more...hello, it's the $1.00 one not the $1,000.00 one... but that is the way it is! And that is why there are catalogues out there...but then again, we wouldn't have threads like this to give us entertainment would we!!!

I love reading this thread!! :D :D :D

Well, of course, Anne, you wouldn't ever buy from an eBay seller with a 95.5% feedback score, who can't even photograph his (or her) stamps upright. Would you? Would you?

Hmmmmmmm...have to think.....

Probably NOT without your say-so!!!

I think I'd get into trouble!

Although,... I did buy those Travancore stamps I showed you with a VERY dodgey picture! And for 99p that lot turned out OK with a couple of very nice OP's that made it worthwhile!

But we're talking 99p....not thousands or even hundreds of dollars!!!!

Truely, those Poonch stamps, I would have definitely asked you first, regardless of the sellers feedback rating!... I might make a cheeky offer, how low can you go!...but I don't think he'll come at it and I'm not worried either way!!!

I include this (now closed) item from perennial favourite o2ke mainly as another example as to how he can mangle English and concepts like no-one else on the planet. I don't need to add that it is a totally worthless stamp:

Priced at USD 564

Excellent long stamp. Ideal stamp hobby gift for someone.

This is a genuine stamp not a reproduced forgeory. Like currency, it is assumed the reproduction of the collection hobby stamp is illegal. I have seen this in stores and featured well in hobby articals.

I also have a reference to this stamp in an informational encyclopedia for collectors. Many of my stamps are featured in a hobby reference encyclopedia.

Stamp collecting is a serious hobby kids love, adults mature. No hate complaints, collector notes are welcome.

From stockrocket, we now have six of the little beggars for USD5,500 or BIN USD7,000
