Ok... so this guy, KGVI, is on just about every stamp in every country in my WW stamp album covering decades!... seriously though, I was wondering if he holds the record for the most occurring portrait on a stamp in Philately?

Thanks in advance!

I would have to go with Queen Elizabeth. She has been the monarch much longer than her father was. They produce many more stamps today than they did in the KGVI era.

I do not have any figures, but I think QEII beats King George VI by far.

He's at least on more countries than any other monarch if not more stamps! Not sure if I've seen him on any of my US though?

The final figure for QEII would depend what criteria you set. Do the silhouette profiles in the corner of stamps issued by colonies count (ie. HK, Falklands), or do you only count commems showing HM 'doing something', plus definitives with a full-on portrait bust?

Even if you take the stricter latter, I'd say Belti is right. QEII has been going for a longggg time. HK had I think it was 7 sets of defins with her portrait, each had about 16 stamps.

QV reigned 63-odd years, but there weren't so many stamps issued back then, and a lot of colonies didn't show royal portraits--NB, NS, Nfld, Barbados, T&T.

The only monarch I can think of that's been on a US stamp was the Hawaiian royalty. Although the way Walt Disney is worshipped, that could qualify him as a 'son of Heaven'.  Sun Yat Sen ("founding father of the Republic of China") was on a US stamp.

Yeah, Old Walt might actually qualify! He's covered probably as many years as the queen! Which stamp was the Hawaiian you were mentioning? I know they didn't become a state until 1959, was it after that? I've got a few in my collection but need some more!

Cheers.

Grace Kelly (Monaco) was on a U.S. stamp -- is a Princess Consort considered royalty?

Incidentally, the [U.S.] Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee has been roundly criticized for not managing to put Queen Elizabeth on a stamp.

I'd say Grace deserves a shot! Yeah, I've seen plenty of FDR portraits on other countries so there's got to be a place for the Queen somewhere. Maybe she's on one some where? I'll look into it!

Cheers.

I remember an Airmail (orange, 7cts face value?) that shows a Hawaiian in full traditional dress, I thought that was King Kamehameha.

There are lots of affordable stamps in the later Kingdom of Hawaii issues--say a dollar or two. They're interesting talking points in an album--"yes, Hawaii used to be a country". Its a good bar trivia question "what is the only city in the USA that has a castle that was legitimately used?"...people all think its a building from Europe that was dismantled and rebuilt. :D
