Congrats, Bill,

You are a well-deserved winner for all your hard work with this thread - and in the hospitality you showed Crosscrescent on his recent visit.

And I can personally guarantee you will enjoy this quality prize - EXCELLENT stamps and a SUPERB publication from AP 8)

Regards from one winner to another.

Gavin

Gav-H thank you.
You must be the luckiest stampboarder. Two prizes in about a month. I'm glad you left something for me.

Although I'm dreading Friday's meeting of the GOMC. I'm sure to get a ribbing from Philly, Ron and Parryone. Old Harry will be scheming to get it off me.....His favourite saying....Ëverything has a price, at which you can't refuse....

Many gratz to Warf on a well deserved win.

As we have to have our votes in early for December, I would like to re-nominate Iomoon for his continuing contribution to the Visual Catalogue - Australia.

Andrew, once would have been enough, twice is overkill. You must still be suffering from jetlag and over imbibing in Port.

Have a good time at the stampfair with cousin Kenny.
cya and thanks.

My apologies for not having read this thread before I posted elsewhere.

Congratulations to Waroff49 - now I understand why he was being congratulated on other threads!

I wish to nominate Diver Pete for his thread on "What is a true catalogue value and whose catalogue do you trust?"

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

What started as a dry request for opinions on the market price of an obscure stamp has led to a fascinating expostion on a rare fish once the question "Why do you collect that?" was asked. And illustrated with some very unusual stamps, covers etc. Perhaps we should all ask that question - of ourselves and of our fellow members. It has the potential to produce some very lively threads, I suspect. Diver Pete is now even considering turning his collection into an exhibition entry so even more collectors could have the chance to see it.

A BIG THANK YOU TO AUSTRALIA POST (PHILATELIC)

I am just writing to say a BIG THANK YOU to Australia Post (Philatelic) for their donation of the Prizes for this thread.

I received my "Collection of Australian Stamps, 2008". today and it is magnificent publication ( not to mention the stamps inc.)
I have also sent an email to Noel Leahy to thank him and his department.

Their encouragement of stamp collecting is fantastic.

Merry Christmas to all those at AUSTRALIA POST (PHILATELIC).

December's winner is :

Tonymacg - Banging the Drum for the Uglies (nominated by Crosscresecent)

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=8480

Tony .. if you'd like to pass on your postal address, I will ask AP to deliver your superb prize. :D

And let's have some ongoing nominations for the best thread of JANUARY .. remembering any previously nominated thread that has not been a winner also qualifies!

Glen

=================

For general interest, These were two of the voting Moderator comments (neither mine) and I do agree with them.

Moderator A wrote:

I vote for TonyMac because since he started the thread he has 'converted' a stack of collectors, and generated a real enthusiasm on the board for a niche area, and drawing in a number of new members via Google search.

All sorts of members have joined in the thread since it started in Sept and now EVERYONE has heard of Barwani

And ...

Moderator B wrote:

I've been a proponent for TonyMac a couple of times, and I will vote for him again this time. I think Moderator A is correct. I have noticed that a number of our new members have expressed an interest in Indian philately, and I suspect they may have been attracted to Stampboards because of Tony's thread.

It's a masterpiece, loaded with more original information than probably any other thread on the site.

My nomination is for rmort and his thread "Queensland 1899 1d vermillion QV rouletted - a photo montage"

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=10233

rmort is a relative newcomer to Stampboards, and had only made a handful of posts before starting this thread. His indepth knowledge of this stamp has been informative to many others, and inspired many more excellent contributions on the thread.

I would like to nominate Mr Boggler for his thread and contribution to
viewtopic.php?f=29&t=6954&start=0 (commonly called the Grumpy Old Man's Thread.)

I believe that this thread E-pit- amises the nature of this Board, it is both - a bit of fun and a sharing of knowledge. The GOMC which was the start of this thread, has spread world wide with chapters in Scotland, Busan ( and probably a few others as well) and has spawned off the GOWC. There are associate members in all corners of the globe and they contribute to the Stampboards family on a daily basis.

It has many and varied contributors from the ultra-specialist and judges to the extreme novice. Even our own Glen, MargoZ and the other Mods drop in from time to time to check it out and add a few pearls of wisdom.

It is an extremely popular thread, according to the number of posts and views, as collectors all around the world drop in to see what is going on in the world of collecting( and catch up with the latest gossip.)

I want to nominate lisamidge for her KGV site, which I believe originated from Stampboards.
It is a well done and very imformative site, and I think Lisa has done a great job on it so far.

Due to a recent illness, Lisa is unable to post in Stampboards, until she has recovered enough to do so.
Her son Warren will be keeping her site updated, and Lisa has herself, expressed an interest in keeping her
stamp collecting going. I believe she deserves this months prize, and also think it would boost her spirits enormously.

Apologies, as I can't find the initial thread where Lisa started her Webpage/Site, but for anyone who has KGV's,
here is the place to go. :)

http://allisastamps.koolhost.com/trial.htm
http://allisastamps.koolhost.com/linkstoothersites.htm

Well done Lisa. I for one, visit your site often, and it has helped me more times that I care to admit. :D
All the best, and I hope the links are the right ones for here.

Very interesting topic, and his knowledge of this area has been of help to many other members already!

Rodolphe gets my vote :!: France is one of my secondary collections but has such tremendous depth that is often not realised.

Rodolphe has obviously put a hell of a lot of work into his topic and is a relative newcomer who should be encouraged.

Arls, you're to impatient, it's only 3 FE09, what do you expect, with all those quality nominations it will take time to decide on the Grumpy Old Men's thread.

Well if some of the impatient souls in the peanut gallery demanding instant results will excuse those of us who actually work for a living, the matter is being voted upon.

Please accept our groveling apologies to those whom we have severely let down here.

What's this work for a living........I wish I could have 4-8 weeks overseas every year.
What's your thinking on that point Arls?

Ah and at my tender age, and having had 30 kids to deal with for 35 years, or even worse their parents and the hierarchy...... I think I deserve instant gratification.......                If not sooner!!!!

You certainly deserve SOMETHING! :)

Whether it is gratification, instant or otherwise, is another matter entirely.

4-8 days a year out of the house would be good enough for me. I actually can't remember the last time I went anywhere overnight, let alone a few days. As for working for a living, for some, that's just not possible.

But I guess we can't all be Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.
