FAULTS AND FLAWS

This thread is a WIKI for the Australian KGV 5d faults and flaws.
Listed by electros and by die

The aim of this thread is to have an online catalogue for the faults and flaws of the 5d chestnut brown KGV stamps of Australia.

To do this we require your input,

If you have an example of a fault that you can post, with an electro number a pane number and the position on that pane.
Then just post it at the bottom of this thread. With the watermark and it's perforation.
And we will do the rest.

If you are unsure that you have the correct number for your stamp ask the KGV gurus on the board
Post your scan there first and ask them the question they can be found here.

YOUR SCANS
Please if possible scan your stamps at 1200 dpi and then place them in your photobucket account at the 15-inch screen setting.
If this cannot be done place your scan anyway it will hold it place on the thread until another1200dpi scan comes along.
The 1200 dpi setting gives a good size picture, as you will see below.
Trim the scan, a little bit of black background is ok but we don't want a half-inch boarder around it, again look at the scans below.
A bit of pride in the scan of your stamp will keep it here for as long as the board stays running. The better scan will always be on display.

The last couple of post on the thread will be random posts from members these posts will stay until we have between ten and twenty and then we will copy the scans and then we will remove all post and arrange them in order with the members name as the contributor like in the post below

Below is a template of what each post will look like.
If we keep all post the same then the WIKI will look good from top to bottom

DESCRIPTION

Lower Frame: Break, 0.5 mm. wide, beginning 8.5 mm. from right frame.

Head: Break or weakness, 0.5 mm. long, in 7th shading line on neck (counting from right).

Emu: Small flaw on middle of body, 2.0 mm. from right frame, 10.5 mm. from lower frame.

Crown: Third and fourth pearls (counting down) at left abnormal. The third pearl may be enlarged and irregular in shape; the fourth pearl is also variable in shape and may have a fine extension above, breaking the outline of the crown, and a similar extension joining it to the white line below (variable and may be absent).

RETOUCH:

(a) Upper left corner: large pointed corner, with tip of white border shortened.

(b) Left frame: thickened for upper 4.5 mm., with thinning of white border.

(c) Left frame:~ shaved inwards for 4.5 mm. at upper end, with a small shoulder at the lower end
of the shave.

(d) Left -frame: minute notch on inner side below apex of upper projecting point, 6.5 mm. from
upper frame.

(e) Left wattle spray: two-thirds of the left side of the middle leaf is solid, with the protruding
leaflets barely visible on the remaining third; the shading lines between the leaves at the left
are thickened.

(f) Crown: spot or small mark between the top of the right leaf of the left fleur-de-lis and the
* short line above.

(g) Crown: small flaw attached to right end of upper limb of Maltese cross.
