As I stress earlier here in the tutorial post on photobucket, I urge all members to go and edit out the first 3 link options they give you:

They will now show - all 4 links - on your account like this:

Share URL - Email & IM - http://s280.photobucket.com/albums/kk19 ... xroul1.jpg

Direct Link - Layout Pages - http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk19 ... xroul1.jpg

HTML Code - Websites & Blogs - <a><img></a>

IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards - Image

Most folks of course often simply paste the TOP one in as you did, and that does not work - HERE.

If you choose the FINAL (4th) option, and paste that here, it has the html IMG coding already in place for you! Fast and easy.

I needed to manually add a space after in option 4, or else the photo would load above!

So in short folks go in and remove all the options EXCEPT:

IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards

And if you ever need to email the link or url to someone, simply remove the [IMG] and [IMG] from the url you email.

And a lot of collectors are using scanners for their stamps that came out of Noah's Ark, and are quite frankly outdated and near USELESS for the job!

Read THIS thread below as to WHAT you need, and for $100 or so you too can be posting up scans that looks as superb and sharp as this one below, that I did of the rare perf Anzac for stock.

I have been able to use photobucket to send a copy of a stamp from "my computer" - with help from a 14 year grandson, who has now gone home.
I'm working on the theory that I can practice on this thread in the next few days.

A new member choki on another thread yesterday, bought a used set of Papua 1935 Silver Jubilee off me for $25, and posted up his first ever scan - (see link below) saying they would go nicely with this FDC of them, he bought years ago:

viewtopic.php?t=7858

Even from the tiny size images on each block, I could see that each block had the "accent" or "apostrophe" flew -- SG Cat is £200 = $A450 MORE than normals. 8)

As you can see, from thread link above he had no idea whatever he owned those, and has now told his wife what a clever stamp buyer he is!

This proves 4 things -

1. That we often have valuable things sitting there we do not know about.

2. That posting scans to this board is REALLY worth doing. This member is £200 in front due to it.

3. "Knowledge Is Power" as I always keep saying. :D

4. That telling your spouse about good finds always allows you to spend more next time. :D

Hepl needed - I have a button to enable editing my threads and have started to go through the images.

I'm attempting to repaste the original image links from Pohotbucked into the threads - however on preview (and submission) get the messages in red at the top of the script box:

" Your images may only be up to 850 pixels high. Your images may only be up to 850 pixels wide.into "

I've checked Photobucket and the setting is for a 15" screen (800 x 600) so should be well within the limits.

Can anybody help me with this please as I'd like to get the images back in place for the benefit of fplk visiting the threads.

Cheers - Matt

Hi Glen - sorted - my images are all up to date. The problem I had was that some saved in Photobucket at greater than 850 x 850.

I went back into the edit function in Photobucket and reduced the size to the allowable limits and then resaved the resized images over the original scans.

I then cut and pasted the image links over those in the original threads - and they seem to be fine.

Cheers - Matt

If anybody has difficulties with images via photobucket like I had (there were always problems with the size of the picture), then try:

http://666kb.com

I got this hint from a stampboarder from Austria, who said that especially in Germany and Austria one can have problems with photobucket.

666kb is easy to manage: You go on this site. There you can look on your your computer for the file you want to load. You load it and get an URL, which you have to note or copy.
If you fill in a picture here at stampboards you have to click on the button "Add Photo" above and fill in the URL where the cursor is.

That worked for me several times without problems.

Regards,

Well, I forgot to mention that this site is in German.

The button "Durchsuchen" means "search"; the button "speichern" means "save".

Hope that helps.

weird al,

your image made it to the board.

As for some suggestions, you need a program that can better crop the files so you don't lose the perfs on one side and have big black empty gaps on the other.

Secondly, when you name a file, DO NOT USE BLANK spaces between words. Some browsers can get around it by putting in the 20% characters in the empty space. Other browsers just ignore it and return "file not found".

When you crop the image it will increase in size to replace much of the white space. How big you want it depends on what you want to show but I suggest cropping will give you a near perfect image.

I've done something REALLY bad  i thought I'd tidy up my photobucket and made a folder for Money and one for Stamps, here starts the problem, by moving them to these folders I have broken the link to this forum :( I :( mean it is not earth shattering in the big picture and you will probably not miss the images (if you don't look that is).

My question, oh smart ones, is there a way to put them BACK to the original page they were on? Have I burnt my bridges? I couldn't see an option, and believe me I've looked.

HELP ME PLEASE!

Sorry Ignore this post, it's a miracle, it's appeared so I can send them back.

Brummie .. as post #1 of this thread says in part - and the huge red letters were chosen there for VERY good reason :-

----------------------------

IMPORTANT ... remember if you post a link from your photobucket account to this board and then LATER delete that Image from your account, or move it to a sub-folder, the link to here will then be DEAD, and show as a dreaded white box:

Image

I did not realise that until deleting a few images in my early days of photobucket. So PLEASE do not delete or move internally there, images that you have posted anywhere here on stampboards! Or the board will be populated with ugly white boxes like the one above.

I'm obviously not alone in being unable to upload images - and I thought I was reasonably competent in these matters.

I have uploaded some images to one thread but my images show before and after. What did I do wrong?

In trying to change my avatar I have uploaded an image to photobucket, followed the process set out in this thread but wherever I try and place the new image I get "The URL you specified is invalid".

Help please?

Morning Chippin, at least that is what it is here. As a Mod I have removed those nasty s for you.

I suspect the the problem may simply be the link you have selected from Photobucket.

Try this: go to the image you have uploaded to Photobucket; hover your mouse over the image until the drop down menu appears; click on the last of the links (4th one) to highlight it; press Control-C; in your draft post on Stampboards press Control-V.

The code for an image should now appear. It should commence with and there should be no mentions of .

Click on Preview and, when the post appears above your draft image, check that the image is inserted properly without any extraneous words or codes.

With the Avatar exactly the same procedure applies, but you need to make sure you have saved it in Photobucket at the maximum size for an avatar, ie 160 x 160 (or less).

You can experiment here if you wish and we can advise further if need be.

cheers

To add to Kevin's great advice above use ONLY the non html coded "DIRECT LINK" url on photobuvket for avatar's .. use things with html codes for that, and you will get the message you got - "The URL you specified is invalid".

Thanks to Kevin and Glen for guiding me through that one - I was beginning to lose the will to live!!

I scoured all the advice I could find initially but saw no reference to the critical element that Glen mentioned which was to use the DIRECT LINK only when modifying the avatar.

Thanks again guys. I will return to the site tomorrow with renewed energy to add more scans.

Good night from the UK.

Works well Steve.

Add that scan here and they'll go nuts:

And just a reminder folks -- never DELETE any image from photobucket you have posted up here.

Good first try.

Make sure your photobucket setting is "15" and you use the free Goggle PICASA first and you will get big pix like THIS!

My PC has something wrong with photobucket. Can I post an image directly from the desktop? Thank you!

So it is time for a BUMP. Go to Page 1 and all is explained with pictures.

And hello to all the new members

Photobucket has changed its size option to 'Link Option' which shows up when your cursor is under the image you want to post.

Maybe you could edit your instructions Glen so that posters will be able to see how to get a full sized image instead of the thumbnail image  Don't know why they change things
