Interesting. An identical cover, to the same addressee was sold on ebay a few years ago, but was cancelled in South Australia.

So Mr MacDonald had 2 identical covers posted to him on the same day from opposite ends of the country. Odd.

I have sent the seller an email, explaining that the right hand stamp has been exposed to direct sunlight and is faded. Let's see what the response is.

For what it is worth, here is the response I got;

"Thanks for your thoughts in the matter. Good observation, and it may be a possibility. I will leave it to the experts, and the interested parties. thanks again, joebhomes"

I really hope some poor, benighted 'expert' isn't stupid enough to part with his/her hard-earned for this piece of rubbish!

Orange ink will fade much more quickly than the black ink of the cancel. And anyway, it looks to be somewhat faded to me.

Bottom line is, this pair being issued in these pair of shades is an impossibility.

Only a complete moron who has too much money. Any collector of George V heads will know this is an impossibility. Hopefully US$115 will be enough to keep the fools away.

A couple collections running right now:

Tannu Tuva
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0391764610
Several pages of complete sets, with all of those triangular and diamond-shaped stamps from the 1930's that I think no one ever really used.

Taiwan
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0391767242
All MNH and all complete sets. Runs from the late 60's to early 90's, with many sets that cat $20+. Taiwan is one of the few countries where modern issues sell for a good percentage of catalogue these days. This is the last of four collections I was able to make out of a large lot...

There is a book on Gwalior available, and probably still in print: A Handbook of Gwalior Postal History and Stamps (1837-1950), by Prof. V K Gupta, self-published, Delhi, no date or ISBN No. If anyone is interested, I can supply publisher's address details.

and

Can't really blame the seller...they are properly described as being facsimiles from the 1972 sheet, with clear photos.

True Erich,

What amazes me even more is that i purchased the 3 different coloured overprints of these for $41au.

You can even pick single ones up for $10 or so, so why dont these fools just buy one and cut it up themselves.

Beyond belief.

I'm breaking up a big old dealer's stock of Portuguese Colonies by country...if you like those, check my listings here:

http://shop.ebay.com/erich12498/m.html? ... ksid=p4340

If you don't see one of the colonies you want, it's probably going up tomorrow.

Also a nice Puerto Rico collection (probably the best one I've ever had) and a British Offices in Morocco/Tangier collection.

Here is a quite decent basic Australia collection, running from 1913 into the 1950's, with over $1500 CV in 2009 Scott (and we all know Scott undervalues Australia and only lists the very basic varieties...this group is unchecked for anything better that you might find in Gibbons). Particularly nice group of Postage Dues, which you don't see in the typical collection.

Starts with First Roos to 2/ and reasonable completion from there on. You'll see some centering and minor perforation issues typical of an old collection, but much better than the usual scruffy lots from this period.

As I have been off line for a couple of months I have a lot of catching up to do..
So please don,t get too upset if I am going over any ploughed ground .
I have a general question on the above item,we ALL know its as dodgey as a $3.00.bill.
But is it common practice in US. to call it JOINT pair.instead of JOINED pair . :? or was this just another way we can catch out the Con Men.

You have a joint, I have a knee. It is just terminology and, given the obvious, a lack of understanding of the correct terminolgy is my guess.

My opinion, joint pair and joined pair are "almost" synonymous.

If someone says "joint pair," I visualize a coil pair, especially
a pair with the joint line:

Image

The term "joined pair" seems redundant. If two stamps are
not joined, they're not a pair. Right?

My opinion, joint pair and joined pair are "almost" synonymous.

If someone says "joint pair," I visualize a coil pair, especially
a pair with the joint line:

Doug, true. But what if there a 4 stamps joined? Or, is that a string?

There's been some discussion about producing album pages, and the use of www.stampalbums.com

This auction on Ebay from Seahorese Philatelic Publications caught my eye

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kenya-Uganda-Tang ... 61739535QQ

Has anyone bought these, or similar pages from this company before?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Victoria-SUPERB-col ... 0467488519

on over 90 album pages, look to be home made.

I'm not bidding (starts at US$799 !) but I'm saving the scans
for future reference!

Re Seahorse stamp albums. There is a review from 'The Philatelic Exporter' reproduced on Seahorse Philatelics own website. http://www.seahorsepublishers.com/test/pict/91PhiltelicExporterBookReview.jpg. Not 100% favourable.

Unusual registered cover, addressed to Mussolini, 'Duce del Facismo.'

I've sold one or two ordinary (fan-mail type) covers addressed to AH, but those went for under $10. I think registered may do better.

Also running are a nice Bermuda accumulation -- both early & modern in 15 stockpages:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0462347555

and some Australian States picked from an old collection:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0410641077

plus a 60 page stockbook full of US, and worth someone's right arm, almost!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0461998076

All kinds of goodies in this stockbook, if you collect US (and if you don't...instant US collection!)

Need Canada hingeless albums? I'm running three, the first is this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0411801001

Overall, they cover 1851-1990. These are SAFE DUAL albums, which are really nice since you can easily get stamps in/out, and see both sides of the stamps without removing them. These start at $9.99 each...plus a Medium Flat-Rate Priority Box to ship each...but retail is about $700 for the pages, binders & slipcases. Save a lot for some penciled in Scott numbers...

The collection that was in it? That still has to be scanned up, and is about $16000 SCV. Sold separately :)

[Someone is going to ask: Why did you take the collection out of the albums? Answer: 50 scans in a stockbook, about 140 in the albums. Also the albums are too big to put on my scanner.]

The Canada collection I mentioned above, worth someone's left arm (seriously, it has about $18,000 CV, mostly in early items) is listed now:
