Rajeev, if you are trying to distinguish between these Official overprints, you need to compare the shapes of the letters.

Type O1 is quite distinctive, and it is only found on the first 3 Pies. Type O5 is also very distinctive for its 'square' shaped letters. Type O8 is also distinctive if you compare it with any other overprint: it is much thicker. Type O10 has very thin letters, and so on.

Would you like me to post examples of each of the types of overprint?

thanks,
was going through the correlation in princely states site.by bob coale and got a bit confused.

also is there any printing flaw in indore as one quarter anna stamp has hindi dialect misprinted as aacha anna insted of aadha anna.

pls checkout one dealer in india "india stampcompany" selling four
indore stamps for 40INR. enlarge the picture and you find one mauve quateranna having the above said mistake.

if possible pls show a sample of 011 overprint design as only one is listed in the bob correlation of cochin official overprints

thanks and regards
rajeev

Rajeev, the T11 overprint is very rare - it only occurs on one stamp, and I don't have an example. The best I can do this (what appears to be a) proof pair of the stamp SG O53a

Image

(Good luck to you if you have one. This year, Gibbons prices it at £900 mint and £425 used!)

Incidentally, if you're trying to use Scott to catalogue the Indian States, including Cochin, don't bother. Scott is hopeless. You really need either a Gibbons Commonwealth 1840-1970 (what used to be called Part 1) or the Gibbons India catalogue.

I wouldn't like to comment on Indore stamps, because I don't know much about them. Perhaps someone else here might have something to say. (I have bought a few things from India Stamp Company in the past, and I found them very nice people and very honest - but not always very accurate in identifying stamps, to their cost.)

Rajeev ... are you sure it is a mauve 1/4 anna? I looked through all their Indore items and don't see a mauve 1/4 anna for sale.

I almost forgot: Grosvenor Auctions (www.grosvenorauctions.com) have a used copy of Cochin SG O53a in their latest auction. It's Lot 988, and there is a photo of it in the catalogue, if you'd like to check.

my appologies it is showing used in the Indian Princely States Composition.
column 44,4indore state stamp for INR30.there are two rows of two each.
upper righthand stamp.1/2anna service pink,1/2anna mauve on top row.
1/4anna orange,1anna green on the bottom row.

look at the top hindi dialect on the 1/2anna mauve you can see the difference.
on the 1st stamp aadha anna,2nd stamp aacha anna,3rd stamp paav anna,
4th stamp ache anna.

I typed mistakenly 1/4 anna which is correctly printed, sorry boss
thanks and regards

I'm sorry, Rakesh :( All these Cochin covers turning up on eBay have prompted me to rethink my Cochin collection. I take it much more seriously these days :D

It is indeed, but one has to be a bit careful. There are some quite convincing-looking fakes on offer on eBay - and not only of Cochin.

And I also found some nice Cochin covers in my collection. I will post some bearing official stamps in this thread.

A rare cancelation. And some day I will tell you just who might have made the noting in pencil.

Thanks and regards.
