Rotary Photographic Co existed between about 1900 and 1920, in London.
They produced hundreds/thousands of postcards on popular themes (eg birthdays). I don't have any to post, unfortunately.

Thanks for the information. But I have some cards which are of later period also.
When I searched on google I found a link of Postcard Traders Association which gives a very usefull information on them. It says that

postcard.co.uk wrote:
"A popular question asked by new collectors is why a dealer prices one card so much higher than another, even though they both show a very similar view. The answer is usually that the more expensive card is a 'real photographic' (or rp) card. But what is it about rp cards that make them command such relatively high prices?

There were two main types of postcard printed in the Golden Age. They were 'printed cards' and 'photographic cards'. Printed cards were manufactured on a very large scale using printing presses and engraving plates and using one of two main techniques.

The Intalgio method was the first used for the postcards but was soon overtaken by the lithograph method, which was faster and more convenient. The Rotary Photo Company, using rotary presses to print their cards, introduced mass-produced photographic cards into the UK but these are not generally referred to as rp cards.

I am posting some more of my collection here

I have another series of cards on Royals of Indian Princely states. I have about 250 different cards in this series.

Hello Ajay Kr. Mittal, Thanks you for sharing your cards. I would very interested in seeing more if you have time to show them. :D

I though a couple of the captions on the cards were very strange.

I know Jan Smuts was very well respected by many people but I've never seen him referred to as Sri Jan Smuts before. :D Would the card have been printed specially for sale in India?

And in the portrait of the princesses with Queen Alexandra, there's the bizarre reference to Princess-Queenmum-eleanor!

Hello nigelc nice to see your post.

I also think that the lot which I got is mainly for India as it contains Maharajas of Indian states. But some are not related to India though they are internationally very renowned personalities as Napolian, Charlie Chaplin Hitlor etc.

Here I posting some more of the same collection

Interesting - that pic of QE2 must not be more than ten
years old.

On the Smuts card, could Sri have been a typo for Sir? Even
though Sri is a title of respect.

Photo looks like that only but the card I don't think is so new as the condition of all cards are same all are yellow to brown from back side. and being photogaraphic cards all are little curved from centre which is common in photographic paper.

Here are some more intresting cards of my collection

Very true Doug, which suggests that maybe all these cards were created relatively recently from a photo library.

I see that the combination "Queenmum-Eleanor" has appeared again but this time it makes sense, with the Queen Mother and Eleanor Roosevelt. :)

I am also unable to find out who "Elizabeth Allport" is.

Now I have a 5-minute limit for Googling, but not a clue
as to her significance. Anyone know?

Yes I fully agree with the view point. It means some treatment is done to the card so that it looks like an antique card.

It's funny you should ask this as I've just been looking for her too!

All roads (well many :D) lead to Australia...

The picture is from a painting in the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts, part of the State Library of Tasmania.

"Henry Allport bequeathed the contents of the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts to the people of Tasmania in 1965. It is intended as a permanent memorial to his family, who had settled in Van Diemen's Land in 1831."

The painting is by Francis Frederick Hutton, painted in 1858 and first exhibited in Hobart in 1862.

Regarding the photo of Edward, Prince of Wales, 1932
(above), most people don't have 4 fingers of equal length;
see hand on hilt of sword.

Was that one of his hereditary prerogatives?

Where these war conferences were held? Were these two different conferences as the name shows?

I'd assume these were held in London. I don't know if these were two separate conferences but I expect they were.

There certainly were two separate "war cabinets". The British government had a small War Cabinet during WW1 which was smaller than the typical peacetime one and then created a separate Imperial War Cabinet to represent the Dominions.

In one picture shows one sikh gentleman is there. Can he be identified any way. If it is a conference related to or held in India.

Since the Sikh is outnumbered 19 to 1, the conference
must have been held in London.

At another guess, he would have been a representative of the Indian Army, and if so, almost certainly one of the rulers. Perhaps the Maharaja of Patiala?

Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner represented India at the 1917 Imperial War Conference and in the Imperial War Cabinet. Could this be him?

Firstly, I think this is a delightful thread. Please post more cards. I'm learning a lot.
Secondly, I can't believe any British company would refer to Queen Victoria as "Alexandrina Victoria Hanover".
Thirdly, Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner is the gentleman with the moustache, standing 4th from left in the photo of the national War conference. I can't convince myself that the younger looking Sikh in the other card is the same fella. He would have been 37 at the time, from ref to his wikepedia entry. What do others think?

Just finished going through the latest posts on this thread but it is now time for sleep.

I will comment further tomorrow but suggest that the first photo is of the British War Conference (thus National) while the second one is of the Empire War Conference.

Australia is represented by Billie Hughes (seated 4th from right) and I believe we will find there are others from New Zealand, South Africa, Canada etc.

I am thinking the captions on these cards were written
by some Company or individual for whom English was not
the native language; this could mean European production,
or Asian, etc., or even knock-offs of existing images as
copyright infringement. Nothing against the images, of
course, they are very interesting.

There are just too many oddities in language and style
and diction to assume they're a London product, or have
any authorization from HMSO. Comment?

Could you show us the backs of four cards, particularly
if you note several different types among them?

Back side of all the cards is same as shown above in earlier posting. It is not mentioned about the picture, date, period etc. on the back side. It looks that all the cards same printing is used.

This is a Fantastic lot of Cards, and almost warrants a thread all of its own,
But the alarm bells are ringing in the back of my head as to the originality of these cards,
IF the Pictures of Q.E.11 had not been included I would not have thought much about it,BUT the inclusion of them ,as has been pointed out already means they Cannot possibly be older than 10-12 years, but have been made to look 100 years old,
Leading me to question the age of the rest of the cards,
I know for a FACT the In China, they are Producing Forgeries of Modern Australian Stamps, that will pass even the BEST inspection,if that can be done why not other old collectable items,I,E,Postcatds,
I think after reading this thread a few others are starting to think this way too.
But that still does not detract from the History and Beauty of these cards,be them originals or Repos,

I think this adds to the fact that these cards are Repos,
If They stopped production in the 1920,s how come they printed all the Postcards of the current Royal Family, one is dated 1955, Princess Margaret, when she was in her 60,s, the almost current pics of the Queen.
Plus, as has been pointed out by Doug, the captions on many cards are not A,OK. :?

Maybe the dates 1900-1920 are incorrect as most of the cards would be later than 1920?

Where these war conferences were held? Were these two different conferences as the name shows?

Just finished going through the latest posts on this thread but it is now time for sleep.

I will comment further tomorrow but suggest that the first photo is of the British War Conference (thus National) while the second one is of the Empire War Conference.

Australia is represented by Billie Hughes (seated 4th from right) and I believe we will find there are others from New Zealand, South Africa, Canada etc.

Further to my comments above - it seems that the wording on the cards is likely to be the product of someone more concerned about profits than accuracy.

This is supported by the fact that I can find no evidence of a National War Conference. In 1917 the British Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, appointed an Imperial War Cabinet which was charged with the conduct of the war.

It is said to have had only five members (one each from Britain, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and India) but we can immediately see that there were six countries involved. Every photo I have seen includes many more than that so we can presume they also include senior government ministers and military advisors.

At the same time there was formed the Imperial War Conference which was concerned about all aspects of Empire relations other than the strategic conduct of the war.

During the time that they met (remembering that they all had to be at home as much as possible) the Cabinet met on one day and the Conference the next, and so on and so on.

If you look closely at the photo you will see a number of persons present in both photos - Borden from Canada, Massey from New Zealand, Smuts from South Africa, etc.

A different photo of the identical group in the first picture is to be found on http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/3087801/Hulton-Archive and all participants are named on that site.

I see that Satyendra Prasanno Sinha had a remarkable career:

He was made Baron Sinha of Rajpur in 1919, the first Indian member of the House of Lords.

Ben I just saw the same postcard go for $20 unused. It said "HARRY PAYNE OUR TREES THE BEECH TUCKS"

Publisher : Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd.,
Card No: Our Trees 9451

I can't read the printing on the back of your card. Does it have the same info?

Yep, on the back it says:

Raphael Tuck & Sons "Oilette" [Regd.] Postcard 9451
Art publishers to their Majesties the King and Queen

Our Trees
Processed in Bavaria

I paid all of 50p for it; seems like a good find! They had quite a few more from the series, but this was the one which caught my eye.

Samoa 31 May 1899

(I picked this up for practically nothing as the description said that the stamp was glued on later. However, under 10x magnification, it can be seen that the cancellation does just barely extend to the postcard.)
