Hi everyone,
Does anyone recognize these? They were part of a collection we inherited and they were stuck in with the China section, but weren't cataloged. I can't find them in the scotts book.

Much appreciated,

Hello again,
More China stamps I can't identify. At least I think they are China.

There are several others with 1949 dates that I can't place. Does Scotts have some hidden section for China 1949? Maybe I'm holding it upside down.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Look at the back of the PRC section for East China. They are listed there.

Second row, first stamp is Japan. The country name is the set of characters on the left starting with the character that looks like an "8"

I'm using a 1973 Scotts catalog (it came with the collection). The PR section of china only lists 7 stamps for 1949, #1-7. I've been through every section of the China listing and can't find any reference to these designs or denomination/color combinations in a 1949 period.

I'm sure I am missing something simple, but I can't figure out what it is.

It is possible that Scott did not list the regionals in 1973. Are you looking at the end of the Peoples Republic of China listings - behind the airmails, postage due and military stamps?

Your stamps are catalogue numbers 5L24, 5L63, 5L62 and 5L78.

Using another approach. Does the index at the back of the catalogue list East China?

Thank you for taking the time to look that up for me. No it doesn't list these and there is no East China in the index. I appreciate your help tremendously.

Hi there,

Scott c1973 catalogue seemingly did not list any Communist China stamps!

Don't know when that stopped, my Scott is 1966 vintage I think, but they list Republic of China up until 1949, Taiwan right through, but NO People's Republic of China. Was that McCarthyism or what?

Interesting thread BTW,

Best, Micko

Well, it did take Australia until 1972 to recognize China, and give up the farce of pretending that Taipei represented the whole of China :D Just a reflection of Cold War attitudes.

Hello!

Could anyone assist me with thiese, I have on purpose, not made [IMG] tags to "preseve" the high quality of thiese.

This is from my late grandfaters collection, a mix of china, North Korea and what not.

Just wondering if the china ones are real or fake ones?

Kloster, you've been a member here for THREE years .. and will know we do NOT post web links to massive files as many members are on slow connections.

Please make them into 850 x 850 max images in photobucket etc, as per the other 100,000 photos here. 8)

Rather than start a new topic, I thought I'd tack my query onto this related one. I have identified the majority of my Chinese stamps using my SG Part 17 8th Edition (and a superb book it is too I believe). However, I can't locate/identify the following stamps.

If anyone could suggest the SG numbers, I can take a look in the book and figure out why I can't spot them! Any indication of real-world value would be handy too (I know the condition is mixed at best) would be useful, so I can see how it compares to the SG Cat prices.

Please note the images were scanned in one go and split using the software written by one of the board members here: 'Stamp Image Bursting Application', by Jason Drake. Very good it is too!

As there are a few stamps I got stuck on, I'll post them up in batches of 4-5 to keep the load times ok...

Yes, the last one is Korean, South I believe.

The maroon 500 one is actually Japanese. I do not have my catalogs though.

Thanks - that explains why I couldn't find those two. The Japanese one, which could be considered 'slightly toned, one or too short perfs' is value $0.00 in that condition. Once you are by your catalogs, would you mind confirming what the value would have been for a slightly less unwell copy?

Thanks for that - do you happen to know the SG numbers, as I can't find them in my catalog?

Sorry, I only have Scott not SG. When I get a chance I'll look up the years of issue, but I'm pretty sure the ROC stamps are from the 50s and 60s. The bird stamps from China are more recent.
