I remember wearing a white shirt and tie to school each day. Now the kids wear T-shirts and jeans. We only wore sneakers (Keds) after school to play stickball in the street. And we played curb-ball. Ring-a-leeveo and Johnny-Ride-the-Pony.

For me it was second hand shoes,clothes the only new thing I had was lunch

Yes bread and dripping I liked it,for dinner things like Tripe,Lambs Fry,Steak and Kidney suet pudding

And i remember that i had to bring home the paperbag as well.
Al you were spoilt.

Fresh and free.

I still have hot powdered milk on my weet bix

Was reared on Vita Brits and still eat them.now what goes on them is another thing,comes out of shops in plastic bottles.all the different ones makes me think at times ,i would be wary feeding it to pigs .

And the merchants gave you a fair go, and were happy with a little profit margin. And all items were genuine

I remember collecting old newspapers to take to the fish shop in exchange for a bag of chips.
Also selling sunday papers on Silverwater rd at ryde pay was'nt much tips were good.

I remember collecting news papers for butcher shop and grocery store as well as collecting bottles for pocket money.
Also had a vegy run going, selling anything my mother grew.was so popular i had sold things like lettuce ,carrots and potatoes before they were grown.

Good on you Frank you remind me of my dad honest and hard worker but struggled feeding his 6 kids

Five boys and a girl in our family.Sister was the youngest,i got the minder job.we might have done it a bit tough,but we all stuck to it,and came out of it the wiser.
Father came home from war in islands shellshocked ,we managed.

I have to agree with you Frank it's happening as we speak,I feel sorry for our grandkids.

I remember when we didn't have to worry about being sold out,a hand shake was all that was needed,and you kept your word.

I was all of nine years old, my folks let me ride my bike across town and back to spend the day with my favorite aunt. Nobody cared as long as I got back before dark. We always went out to play first thing in the morning and usually knew only to be back by the time the lights came on. We drank out of garden hoses and probably ate plenty of mud, fell down scraped our knees and got up and went on playing. In those days, your friends parents would correct you if you did something wrong and you knew you'd probably catch it when you got home because they'd call and rat you out before you got home. No lawsuits or parents defending you, you were guilty until proven otherwise. You didn't hang around the house because they would shoo you outside...

I remember that if mum and dad were talking ,or they had a guest ,you did not wait to be told to go outside.

Yes I remember that. Children should be seen but not heard. I also remember when children had respect for people older than them. By calling them Mr or Mrs, now its all first name.

Since powers that be took away parents rights to teach their kids,and theach them right from wrong.
What would you expect when teachers tell kids that they don't have to listen or obey their parents.

My mum would say wait till your father gets home,Dads favorite saying was I'll kick your butt till your nose bleeds,glad he did'nt.

I remember dad sending me to bed without tea,mum would sneak it in when he wasn't watching.I had meals in bed, would be uncountable times.

I remember for years dad rode a motorbike and we would catch a train till we could afford a car

I remember dad bought an old Pontiac tourer (DL849) 7 of us fitted in and picniced at Stewart park North Wollongong.
