Out of interest, doesn't mailing on paper material overseas cost more than most of it sells for?

Nope...try Papua New Guinea at around $200 per kg, French Commems at about the same, Germany Commems at about $100 and those are WHOLESALE PRICES!

Try Glen's kiloware. Bought some and have had so much fun with them (being able to give complete sets worth many pounds sterling - SG catalogue). They are really worth it even though the postage to me cost about as much as the stamps themselves. He also uses such nice stamps that the cost of postage is absolutely free. Mine came with the corner block of the $20 Gardens which alone was more than the cost of the kiloware.

Go check Glen's website.

Cheers

Sorry small correction to the last post. The block of stamps were worth more than the cost of the kiloware. It had the stamp cancellation right sock on the nose. One of the stamps had a slight crease probably due to the handling from Australia to Malaysia but facially looks gorgeous.

Cheers

Thanks Andrew .. yes for a long time I have felt wise use of stamps used on parcels can nearly mean we get the shipping free.

As you say shipping to you is not cheap and using CTO high values like the $20 with VFU cancels negates the cost almost entirely. :)

Hi Glen,

The fact that you used a piece of clear plastic to cover the stamps was highly appreciated. This is something I did not expect and was presently surprised when I saw it. This block of 4 $20 stamps sits proudly in my "rare" stamp album. Thanks.

PO's do not HAVE to let you use a piece of plastic over the top of course. Depending on the staffer at my PO I can often do that for high franking parcels. :D

That's the bonus for us. Guess if you are nice and ask nicely you will very likely get a nice response.

Cheers

We in NZ have to pay GST on postage if we use stamps if items are being posted overseas, consequently many people go for the franking machine which for some reason does not incurr GST (when posting overseas only, GST is added for local post). I have no idea why this should be so; it does mean many parcels are posted out with boring looking labels and the chance of someone adding to or even beginning a stamp collection is lost.

A client mailed me this last month.

3 x SUPERB used $20 Glaciers and a $10 Volcano!

All magic used bar code copies under plastic so condition was 1st class.

Will offer in my next ad for about $A60.

So effectively "free" postage across the Tasman for a heavy carton of year books!

In 50 years time these will be like a parcel tag with £1 and £2 Roos on them. True.

GST is payable in NZ when you purchase a postage stamp because the stamp can be used for either domestic or international mail. The same applies if you use a franking machine.
In order to meet the GST legislation requirements the only way that NZ Post seems to be able to offer "GST exclusive" is to hand the item over the counter and they affix one of their machine generated white adhesive labels. The machine rolls that generate the labels need to have pictorial designs on them to make them collectible.
