The Stampboards AFL Footy Tipping Contest is starting for the 2012 season, and all members are welcome to join in the fun.
We had over 30 starters the first year, over 50 in the next two years, and started with 75 last year, and we all had a really good time.
Let's try to break the 80 barrier this year - it might get me a 10th grain of sticky rice as my annual payment from Admin for Modding on the Board (even though I have never seen any of the rice I am owed) .
We will have 4 main prizes, as many of our members from previous years can attest. These are well worth the 5 minutes per week that it takes to tip.
There are prizes for the top 3 tipsters, plus a prize (subject to the rules) for last place. Note the last place Champion, or Wooden Spoon prize will
really be a nominal prize this year - there were too many headaches caused by sandbagging last year and I wont tolerate this again. The Wooden Spoon prize will not be given to anyone who does not post at least 18 times, and must post in the last week of the competition.
OK .. have spoken to both
Kevin Morgan and
Fletches1 and both have again generously offered to support this year's comp.
So for main prizes we have -
Confirmed Main Prizes: First Prize: A $A150.00 Credit Voucher from
Glen Stephens, which can be used to purchase anything from
http://www.glenstephens.com/rarity.html that you wish.
Second Prize: A $A100 e-voucher for any of the 25,000 stamp items on
fletches1 huge website -
http://stampmall.com.au - good for members globally.
Third Prize: Kevin Morgan has confirmed he will again donate an annual
"Stamp News" sub within Australia - value $A89.50. (An overseas winner only needs to pay the extra post cost.) Most generous, and thanks for assisting once again Kevin!
Fourth Prize: Donated by Glen, but I will send it. The first person to reach 100 winners for the season will get the Australian Legends 2012 Australia Post Promotional Media Pack, containing the Commemorative Biography Book (with MUH unique sheetlets face about $20), Stamp Pack and First Day Cover of all the featured players, and a background CD - totalling over $A40 in value, plus a CTO Miniature Sheet of the 1996 AFL 16 clubs, and a couple of other doodads Glen sent.
Prize for the WORST tipster as decided by Norm's final table: - To Be Determined, but it won't be worth chasing. But I will dig up something of interest.
And random prizes offered occasionally during the season - if you wish to offer something for a round, or a special reason, please contact Norm.
Join up and have some fun - no skill needed, just five minutes required once a week to post who you think will win the nine matches. And you do not need to know anything about Australian Rules Football to play.
And anyone coming in late can join in for up to
six weeks after the season starts, although you will be at a clear disadvantage to those who came in from the beginning.
The Footy starts on
Saturday, March 24, so get in on time.
Don't wait - subscribe now. No skill is required to play, so overseas members are definitely welcome, as long as you pick Geelong every week

.
And of course, it is completely free.
The Rules: A list of all forthcoming AFL matches will be listed each Monday (or Tuesday if there is a Monday match) during the season.
All you need to do is predict who will win each of the nine (or six) matches to be played over the following round.
One point will be awarded per correct selection.
One point will be awarded in the case of a draw - draws cannot be predicted.
If anybody predicts all 9 winners in a given Round, two Bonus Points will be awarded to that person. In weeks that 6 games are played,
one Bonus Point will be awarded for any persons who predicts all the winners.[/color]
A drawn game will be counted as a win .
The total number of correct selections will be aggregated over the entire season and the winner(s) shall be the person(s) who picks the most winners of the 198 games over the season.
All AFL results, the progressive AFL ladder and a progressive list of where you stand on the Stampboards tipping contest will be posted weekly, usually within a day of the round being completed (depending upon Heart Attacks occuring to yours truly).
All predictions must be posted and board time-coded by 7:00PM Australian Eastern Standard Time each Friday (if there is a Thursday match, the Thursday deadline will apply). Late entrants will receive the "away" team for any match where the deadline has passed, and their selections for late matches.
Posts may not be edited after 7:00PM on the night the round starts.
If a member does not post in a particular week, he or she will be awarded the away (second named) teams for that week.
Any member who does not post for three weeks running, or for six weeks in total once having joined will be considered to have withdrawn from the competition.
Members will have up until round Six to join the competition. Any member joining after Round one will get an averaged aggregate total of all existing competitors as a starting score.
If there is a tie for any of the prize positions at the end of the season the winner will be chosen by a countback. So if a tie occurs at the end of Round 23, the winner will be determined by who led the competition at the end of Round 22. If still a tie then the leader at Round 21 etc....
Any member who will be away at any time during the season has the choice of being automatically given the "away" teams as their selections, or may select for all the weeks they will be away in advance.
NOTE: The "away" teams are always the second named teams
Go here:
http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=35479for the complete 2012 AFL fixture. This will give you all the matches to be played while you are away. The winner will be announced the Sunday evening immediately following the completion of Round 23 on 2 September 2011.
If this is unclear in any way, please post your concerns
on this thread and I will clarify anything you may have a problem with.
I discovered a long time ago that I am not perfect - not even close.
