Regular members will have noticed out American techie Aaron has changed the MAXIMUM size image we can use here.

It was annoying most of us to scroll left and right to read text.

(For those NOT yet signed up for photobucket - some night-time reading here - !)

viewtopic.php?t=5308

The software now "CHOKES" down any large image to be no more than 850 pixels -- losing a LOT of quality on your photo.

99% of you STILL have the old account settings in place.

Go to the blue "OPTIONS" link right above the 3 boxes you paste links into on your account page.

Please now go to that OPTIONS tab, on your photobucket account and choose the MEDIUM photobucket size ("15") for when loading up future material for eventual display here. 800 x 650.

Do NOT retain your current - the largest 1024 x 768 ("17") default size, as that is TOO large for our pages, and our software now "chokes" them down, and you lose a LOT of clarity then.

Image

ALSO - on your own photobucket settings you can quickly edit out the other links you never use, to just not appear so as you can't possibly get confused. (They for some reason initially give you 4 different types of link by default.)

I've edited mine to ONLY show:

Direct Link

IMG Code

The top one I use where making avatars for members, the lower link is what we use on these boards.

Most members here would get by just fine with leaving just ONE option - i.e.:

IMG Code

----------------------------

IMPORTANT ... remember if you post a link from your photobucket account to this board and then LATER delete that Image from your account, the link to here will then be DEAD, and show as a dreaded red "X".

I did not realise that until deleting a few images in my early days of photobucket. So PLEASE do not delete images that you have posted anywhere here! Or the board will be populated with ugly red "X".

Here are 2 examples of what occurs.

If you see this red blue line under images you post they are too LARGE:

(Admin note - this photo has been software reduced to our max size: 850x650 pixels. To see in sharper LARGER size, please simply left click the image.)

The TOP image in each case below has been "CHOKED" down and the red and blue line is evident.

In the top Eustis cover the writing is VERY fuzzy and more blurry and there are no straight lines.

The 1d Red KGV block is DRAMATICALLY fuzzier as you can see.

As you can see the "Choked" and fuzzy images are only a tad bigger than the sharp 800 pixel "15" photobucket ones - but are nowhere near as sharp!

Michael mine works fine. :)

Folks that have NOT gone onto 15" settings please take the moment to do that.

dhopper posted up one today that was THREE times the size of the max size allowed and the page is about a metre wide as the "choke" software has not grabbed it for some reason.

I have used photobucket a few times today with no probs.

Earlier in the week it was loading slow, and when I tried to upload into it I got error messages and my computer shut down.
They have changed the loading feature to a "Faster format" and my computer didn't like it

I managed to change it back (choose the old format) and things work fine- and faster- today

Hope that helps
Skippy

photobucket.com is STRONGLY advising all members to go and change their passwords after a mild security threat there this week.

I've just changed mine for sure.

Thanks for the warning regarding photobucket password. Don't go there often.

Password changed and new avatar with (correct) 15" setting applied. (I didn't delete my old one, Glen, so no big red X!).

As you can see the 15" setting makes it SO much sharper even though the photo is slightly smaller - as you can see - see how much sharper the Google logo is at lower right, as a good comparison, and the control settings at top right and general fuzzines of the town names even on the "larger" image.

Image

Versus the same one that is "Choked" down by software -
