If you see a stamp on a website you want to post here, right click on the image, and click "properties" on the drop down, and there is your URL for that image.

Take a URL of a stamp on a website - any website, and paste it here.

The Egypt one below for instance is;

http://www.glenstephens.com/m3-Egypt%20 ... edding.jpg

Highlight the link, and then go up to the "IMG" box you'll see in the reply box, which will wrap around the code.

Or, manually just type [img]before%20the%20link%20and[/img] after the link and VOILA!

(You can press "PREVIEW" first, and see if you have the coding right before pressing "SUBMIT".)

And a trick I discovered - be sure to add the http:// before the www; i.e.

http://www.glenstephens.com/feb07-Album ... 20book.jpg

works, and

www.glenstephens.com/feb07-Album%20Weed ... 20book.jpg

Does not!

The link above is incredibly useful for all the basics of how to do things here, and how all the neat software features work!

It covers all these areas in detail, all in easy to follow layman language. :D

What is BBCode?
Text Formatting
How to create bold, italic and underlined text
How to change the text colour or size
Can I combine formatting tags?
Quoting and outputting fixed-width text
Quoting text in replies
Outputting code or fixed width data
Generating lists
Creating an Un-ordered list
Creating an Ordered list
Creating Links
Linking to another site
Showing images in posts
Adding an image to a post
Adding attachments into a post
Other matters
Can I add my own tags?

Thanks for the information on posting pictures. But how do I post a scan of a stamp in my collection? Is there a free place that I can store the scan on the internet and then link to it?

Alfie, the software for this board only allows you to link stamp photos from a website.

However there are a lot of free sites like www.photobucket.com you can use to load your own pix to those websites. ;)

I printed the photobucket faq, which says navigate to the bb but when I do I lose the bb connection.....

QldCds,

Once you have your image in Photobuckets, you choose the choose the image from there by left clicking on the URL link. You will see the word "copied" in black in a yellow box.

When you do a post, in the message body, left click on the second last box "Img" then right click your mouse and paste.

After this left click on the "Img" button again. This, together with the first click on the "Img" button allows your image to be seen when you post it on Stampboards.

You may want to use the Preview button first just to see whether the image will come out. Best of luck.

You're most welcome Ted,

It was frustrating at first, but when you see others putting up nice images, you just want to do the same and by trial and error your confidence grows and before you know it you're posting images like nobody's business. Have fun.

Cheers

Not happy with my scanning at all
Compared to Lakatai and ozstamps clarity
You all get a sharper image somehow.
You must do something else
Something that I have not selected in the options.

stamper .. what DPI setting are you scanning at? The higher the number the sharper the scan most often.

300 or 400 seems to work for me.

stamper,

Not too sure about yours, but my scanner has buttons such as sharp and blur to modify the scan. I usually use the sharp (usually 60% more) and the images come out pretty okay (to me at least).

I've given up using anything less than 600. Anything less loses detail for me.

Yes it works OK robby,

You might try to enlarge the scan a bit, particularly when you need to show off a small fault in the stamp.

I scan at 300 dpi for all my posts and enhance the image where needed.

Ok Ok so I might be a bit thick when it comes to these things.

A comment above says Go to Photobucket, left click URL link on photo and 'copied' comes up, ... yes fine, Now go to Post message, left click IMG, hmmm [img] appears in the text box, good... now right click & paste what/where????? where do I find this, a drop down appears but paste is greyed out... where to from here.

Enlighten me someone.
Glen I know your patience has been tried with this one, but I would appreciate some guidance.

Pres,

There are two ways of copying an image from Photobucket. Under each image in Photobucket, there are 4 tabs. If you use the second tab, the image is copied.

You then open a post, click the img button on the top right hand corner of the message body of the post and get [img]

Immediately after you do this, right click and paste. You will find the URL copied there. You then click on the Img button again and it will give you the [/img]

Click on the review button to see what happens and the image should appear there as it would when you submit.

A second way to copy images from Photobucket is to simply click on the 4th button under the image you want to copy.

Then go to the message body box and simply right click and paste whatever is copied. The [img]and%20the[/img] buttons will be automatically inserted for you.

Preview and then submit if you are happy with the preview.

Hope that helps. Best of luck.

Cheers
Andrew

I've just fiddled around with this thing and got nowhere. Yes when I click on the second box in photobucket it shows the image is copied, I come across to the message block, click Img and an asterisk shows up in that box and [img] appears in the message, right click on the Img box again and the drop down comes up all blanked out. What am I doing wrong?

When you click on it in photobucket on the THIRD line there that says:

IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards

Hit CTRL and C keys together. (that is a quick shortcut to copy anything ... write it down somewhere maybe!)

Come to stampboards, hit "reply", and simply hit Ctrl and V keys together, (a shortcut to paste anything) and the entire link will appear here - with the [img] tags already in place for you.

Hit 'submit' and your photo appears here!

Try it and see. :D

Seapaw,

Nice scan. By the way you don't need a second [/img] at the end of the image, doing so makes the [/img] appear as in your image above.

You're there already mate.

A timely reminder.

This photobucket works like a CHARM here, and is used by most members.

Also consider downloading the FREE google PICASA program that lets you readily edit the images you scan.

If I can use it .. ANYONE can use it!!!

How do I reduce the size of an image? I tried both an image manipulating program (EZ viewer 3) and Microsoft Word. Although I reduced the image on my web site it didn't reduce in the post.

Usefull tip:

You accidently posted a cover with your adress on for everyone to see and sadly the 1 hour edit time has expired, what to do?

If you use photobucket or another hosting site that uses the file name for referrence, then here's what you can do.

Take the photo on your PC, remove the adress with paint or another program, delete the file on photobucket, upload the new file, with the same name as the file you just removed and the problem should be solved - the new photo should be here on the board without anyone needing to edit posts.

Seeing as the link still refer to the name, a new file on your account with the same name will simply just replace the image posted (everywhere) - if you're doing a "See my collection" you can simply just scan the albumpage with the new stamps, upload it to your hosting site and voila.

Trick to rember is that the file has to be named excatly like the old file (image)

Hi Kloster

I am new at this, but a good point taken in advice.

Will admit is the type of thing I would most likely do.

Cheers

Having finally just succeeded in posting an image after two previous unsuccessful tries I feel like pointing out my problem in case anyone else gets it. And I don't think it has been mentioned, apologies if I am wrong. I have no problems with scanning and using a place to host the image. My problem was on Stampboards 'post reply'; at the bottom are four boxes which may or may not have ticks in. The second of these is 'Disable BBcode in this post'-I had left a tick in there. That was the problem and why the image would not appear. Once I took that tick out , it worked. I have actually used a lot of programs with work, but it took me a while to figure that one out...

Second point; somewhere someone points out the benefit of 'preview'- excellent way to check that your image has worked.
