Here is a new initiative, in our ever growing aim to improve and enhance the fun, educational, and rewarding member experience here at http://www.stampboards.com 8)

Around the very end of each month, or early in a new month, the Volunteer Moderator Group will discuss what in their view has been the most interesting or useful thread, or helpful post made or added to during the last month.

It could be anything - something funny that was posted, someone assisting with great detail another member's query, or terrific photos someone has loaded of their Bechuanaland Postage Dues collection - or their FDC's of Formosa Fruit Bats etc, etc.

It can be an entire thread you nominate - even an old one. Or just one post WITHIN a thread.

There are about 20 members in the Moderator Group, so a wide range of input will take place, and YOU can assist by adding your own suggestions to this thread.

You MUST add a specific link to the post or the thread concerned, with a reason why you think it deserves to win. Don't say: "Jim's post in mid month on the 1d black was pretty good."

So - what we need is in all cases:

A thread link url, (and that to be coded "URL" in reply box) and title of that thread, (singular) and the member (singular) nominated within that thread, if not the thread starter.

All to be posted below on THIS thread. You can nominate more than 1 thread each month, and more than 1 member if you so choose.

(I added a few more guidelines below October 14, 2009 based on member comments.

1. Each member may nominate more than one thread or post if they wish.

2. Any member can recommend a thread or post in a month, even if that member (or others) have nominated it in a previous month. And even if it has won in a previous month.

3. ANY thread can be nominated that has had at least 2 posts on it, in the month of nomination - even if the thread is a year old.

4. Members can nominate either an entire thread - OR a very specific post by a member within any thread. You must be Crystal Clear when nominating which one it is - giving date and time of post if the latter. We will not guess or mind read - if you can't bother to make it clear, we will likewise be too lazy to bother to add your nomination to the list. ;)

Remember. Add the exact thread link for your nomination, highlight that with your mouse, and then click the "URL" box before hitting submit. OTHERWISE the thread truncates, and the Mods compiling the final list each month get migraines and utter dark curses in strange languages.

Doing that to EVERY URL you ever post on StampBoards is suggested and common sense practice, and has been requested in about a half dozen emails to members!

OTHERWISE -

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8100&p=598607#p598607

Shows up like this below - truncated and useless to copy and paste :

I would like to propose Didge's superb "Fine Used Australian Kangaroo's" thread. I got a real buzz out of looking at all those beautifully displayed used 'roos.

The icing on the cake was when member Gerald Bostock joined in the discussion about his old album and offered Didge the rest of his Letraset letters.

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.ph ... 3&start=50

This thread epitomises what is so great about Stampboards; both the scans of gorgeous stamps and the personal discussions. Good on ya Didge. :)

Cheers,

Ewen

Back to nominations

I would like to nominate this thread

mrbogglers post of Censor cover scans and information contained in his display. I found it well written and very interesting, and has inspired me to gather together any censor covers I can find for a closer look.

Mein pologies to Slippy Skippy also known as Det Super Skippy. I should have known, Skippy was female in the television series also.

My nomination still stands, would be nice to have a Skippy first winner. (Not being a GOMC at the moment or a MSP)

I would like to thank everyone. I feel that this site has so much to offer.

The wealth of information at hand is outstanding, from a very friendly group of people, from all over the world.

Thank you all very much.

Pete

PS hope I do not upset too many members, especially after all those gold medals.

Let's start the September nominations.......

I'll put in a vote for Waroff and 'Is the Board becoming too elitist?' thread
(started just on the cusp of September)

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=8193

Bill either purposefully (or possibly inadvertently) kicked off a great discussion about the pros and cons of the board which has salted out responses from young and old and given great feedback to the board's admin as well as continuing to engage many members.

So thank you Bill .....

Any other nominations so early in the month?

Congrats Peter.

Now can you find one that posts what you are thinking, not what the typing says?????

I meant to put in lots of smiley's but I'm saving them up until I have another SENIOR moment. Here's one for good luck.

Thank you MargoZ for your nomination.

I really think it occurred in a Senior moment. So I have little or no recall about why?

I think the discussion so far has been extremely good ( apart from a few more SM's on my part). I hope people keep adding to it and it makes our board even better.

Congratulations to Peter

The Virtual Magnifier is a great tool.

I would like to nominate stamptmf for his first post to the board.

I'd like to nominate Parryone for the interesting article (find) on the cover with the Penny Black on it, if it qualifies for this prize.

Even though I'm not into them myself, I found (and am still finding it) very interesting.

Alright here goes;

I would like to nominate two boarders.

First, Amhazing for her work on the wiki. If you haven't checked it out lately, follow the link below. This link is to just one thread in the wiki section. There is so much more infomation and it's growing everyday;

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=7580

Next, I am nominating Didge for no particular thread, just for the dribble factor. Tim has made me jealous over the last month with his pics of all things kangaroo, especially his coveted covers. Check out some of his recent postings by following the links below;

I would like to nominate The Pom, for the wonderful way he explained and showed just
what an Australian Coil Stamp is, and the way the Australian Coil differs from other Coils,
It really helped me in understanding this baffling (for the novice) area of philately

Hiya Glen!

I wish to nominate Gary (GJ50) for his posting of Putting together an Exhibit in the Discuss stamps - and *anything* at ALL happening with stamps section of Stampboards this month (September).

I also wish to noimnate Gary (GJ50) for his posting of Build your own exhibit frame in the same section for consideration also.

***************************

Gary - it is better to have 2 chances than none to win anything - even if the prize is a smack across the face with a wet fish! you won't win if you're not in!!

Thank you.

David.

I wish to nominate Gary & David
(if it is possible to nominate both)
for their generous advice on

Putting together an Exhibit in the Discuss Stamps
- and *anything* at ALL happening with stamps

of Stampboards for this month (September) 2008.

I found the advice useful, concise, user friendly
and definitely inspiring to a "never-exhibited-anything-before"
but "hope-to-exhibit-something-soon" Stampboard member.

Cheers
Andrew

Some great suggestions and all most worthy threads I agree. 8)

However I am going to tighten up the nominating rules here, or the judging of each month will be nigh impossible to lay out re finalists.

What we need is in all cases:

A thread link and title of that thread, (singular) and the member (singular) nominated in that thread.

All to be posted here. You can nominate more than 1 thread, and more than 1 member if you so choose.

So in Parryone's nomination The Pom did not START the thread, but his post WITHIN that thread were what got him the nomination. i.e. the thread STARTER does not necessarily become the nominee.

If those above care to tidy up their nominations to meet this format .. please go for it. 8)

So in short nominating one member "in general" will not cut it, but ewen s if you want to nominate Amy for her work on the Wiki FORUM as a whole, seeing she has done most of the posting there, I think that is specific enough for be considered, as it is a rather special case.

Glen

I would like to nominate Kloster from the All online Stamp Auctions Related Discussion and Overview Heading, in the thread "Typical German Reprints & Forgeries From Auction Sites. He started the thread in August 2007, has posted many times since then, with many fine additions by other posters esp Gavin H, hairball and Erich but Kloster's last post on Sept 26th 2008 just adds to the many fine posts he has done in this topic for the past year.
Sincerely, Ron.

To help clarify things as per Glen's suggestion:

I nominate Gary (GJ50) for his posting of Putting together an Exhibit in the Discuss stamps - and *anything* at ALL happening with stamps section of Stampboards this month (September).

The link is http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=8543

This is most helpful to collectors who wish to take up the more serious side of collecting - the competitive side!

Thank you.

David.

I wish to nominate Gary (GJ50) for his posting of Build your own exhibit frame in the Discuss stamps - and *anything* at ALL happening with stamps section of Stampboards this month (September).

This is a very practical method to help the collector/exhibitor with the laying out of his/her pages so that one can view them in situ as one would if one was looking at the exhibit in the frame.

The link to that topic is: http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=8635

Thank you.

David.

To keep to Glen's format, let me renominate the thread

Putting together an Exhibit
which was started by Gary and I wish to nominate
Gary who gave a lot of ideas, comments and shared his experience generously.

I nominate GJ50 for his "Putting together an Exhibit" topic as well (same link as Andrew's one above).

For all the great topics on our board (some of which have been inadvertantly duplicated and even triplicated), this is the one WE DIDN'T have yet and will benefit both experienced and beginner exhibitors.

If it were possible, David Smitham's terrific additions to that topic should also be nominated.

This would be my other choice,

tonymacg "Banging the drum for the Uglies" http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=8480

for the passion that he has put into this topic, and has influenced other members, including myself, to get interested in the uglies.
