Hello,

I'd like to re-introduce myself as my main collecting interest has changed. I now concentrate on the stamps of France, so posts and replies will mostly be about French stamps and related subjects.

Hello All! I sort of joined this group ages ago and then didn't take advantage. Time I did, especially as I'm now retired, and with so much knowledge to tap into! I'm a Brit that lives in the Netherlands and Greece, so don't get me started on Brexit!

My Grandfather, Father and elder Sister all collected and I just naturally followed, squirreling away stuff over a lifetime. My faves are GB, HK and India - but I also have major collections in France, Germany, Greece, Canada and British Med. Why do I do it? Not for the money (although that's rewarding) but because I love it!

If only we could enthuse the younger generation a bit more.... I look forward to participating in lots of posts on this excellent site.

WELCOME back to Stampboards Bennich in Den Haag, Netherlands.
Remarkably, you also live in Greece! Lucky you!

I hope the Stamps and Languages thread will be of interest to you. You will probably be able to make some contributions to it — I hope so! :D
There have been quite a few posts relevant to Dutch — the most recent is
https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=90529&start=219

However, it's quite a while since there was a post relevant to Greek. The last one mainly about Greek was
https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=90529&start=83

I hope you will check those out...

Thanks for the link, Roger.

I use Brandenburg5 because J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #5 is my favorite piece of music. There is a Concerto #6 (the last one), but I don't know of any use of it as an online identifier.

I’m a new member - Steve.

I inherited a few first day or issue stamps and have some questions about the value of a couple of framed first day of issue Apollo stamps with matching photos.

Believe it or not I can seem to find where to post a new thread with a question. Any help would be appreciated.

Guatemala sounds like an interesting collecting area. What made you start collecting stamps from Guatemala?

Perhaps, you can start a thread about Guatemalan stamps?

However, before you do so please browse, read the rules for posting on the board and enjoy! :)

Hello all,

I am a stamp collector from Myanmar currently living in the UK.

I mainly collect Burma/Myanmar postage and revenue stamps, Japan (from 1950s onwards so far), and South Korea (from 1990-present).

I'm still quite new to the hobby - started collecting again about 5 years ago after losing interest in my teens.

I look forward to learning a lot from here!

Hello everyone!

I am Swarup Basu from Kolkata, India. I have a good collection of British India and Indian feudatory states.

Want to enhance my knowledge about them, as I have seen plenty of experts are already here.

Apart from that, I am also interested in Stamps on Hindu religion issued by various countries across the globe.

Thank you all!

Hello GW99 in London, England. Welcome to Stampboards. Best wishes for your resumed collecting.

May I offer a comment? Collecting "according to the catalogue" has both positive and negative aspects. A major positive is that the catalogue list is definite, so in principle it is possible to reach completeness. A major negative is that definition of the scope of you collection is likely to be a serious (and expensive?) challenge. Another negative, not initially apparent, is that it limits you to the catalogue list, with no option to go beyond what others have decided to list in the catalogue.

However, as you work on your collection, there is a good chance you will get interested in items not in the catalogue — multiples, usage on cover, marginal markings, plate varieties, specimens, private perfins, or perhaps some of the rare and very expensive items, like art work, rejected designs, colour trials and plate proofs. My inclination is to favour the open-ended approach, admit into your collection items "beyond the catalogue", and enjoy the pleasures of collecting "outside the box [catalogue]". That requires giving up the goal of "completeness" and embracing the idea of collecting what fascinates, what gives satisfaction, what individualises and differentiates your collection from anyone else's collection.

Of course, the decision is up to you. But at least keep this comment in mind. ;)

Hello my name is Thomas and i am a 23 year old young Irish collector with lots of stamps but little knowledge ;) . My granddad who i was named after was serious antique collector and seller hoarding everything he came across , he collected Stamps, coins and letters and so on. Unfortunately my nanny passed away early this year. There were chest draws that haven't be touched for years on end and had many Stamp slides and bags full of different postage stamps mostly all used but from everywhere around the world from early to late. There is so much to look at that i will have a lot of questions.

If there is somewhere on the forums i can showcase it be nice so others can have look :)

Hello stamp friends

My name is Perry and I reside in Canberra going by the very clever (not) Username of Dr Phil Atterly.

I'm just rekindling my childhood fondness of stamp collecting with time to do so, more interested in stamps than their immediate value per se.

Rebuilding a broad collection and will see where that takes me! Good to be onboard.

Hello, I am a worldwide collector, English and live in the USA. My main focus is France at this time although I have been side-tracked into collecting Impressed British duty stamps and am currently working on a small exhibit for these.

I am new to exhibiting but don’t follow the standard rules but just have fun exploring the topics. I am looking forward to sharing and learning from the membership.

Hi All,

New Member, from Luton UK.

Was a keen collector as a child, but didn't become avid until around a year ago...some 30 odd years later!

I'm still pretty green, I know what I know, but I learn something new almost everyday. I buy & sell, very small-time, but I've never enjoyed a hobby so much as this. I particularly like the history and the stories behind stamps, and I love sorting through the millions in my possession, because you always uncover something new and exciting which you by-passed weeks before.

Looking forward to using this forum, to help me learn.

Welcome Shryder, from Luton UK.

Do they still have the famous Girls' Choir?

Learning something new every day is a great plan for your involvement with philately. That dimension makes it very satisfying, and it's easy to pursue questions or connections in depth these days — thanks to Stampboards in particular, and the internet in general, making that kind of follow-up easy to pursue.

Greetings from Greece, Rhodes island. I'm Steve. My main interest is in Greek stamps and i have also a small collection from Germany, Canada and Australia. One of these countries will be my second target (brainwork in progress). I m trying also to pass my passion to my kids. First contact was with game, funny pictures, wild animals, planes, boats, etc... after that i'm planning to add strange countries, history behind the stamps, facts...thats all. (some of them)

Good evening. My name is Perry, I live in Westchester County, about thirty minutes north of NYC. My father and I used to collect US singles and plate blocks in the 70's, as well as Israeli tab Singles. When my father passed away in 79, the collection sat stale for many years.

When I returned to collecting, I focused on exclusively Israeli stamps - tab singles, full sheets, booklets, FDC, FDC sheets, stationary, etc. Almost everything with an Israeli stamp on it. I spent a long time filling in the entire collection - at this point I have a mint tab single, a full sheet, and a FDC of every Israeli stamp, as well as many other items that were sold.

I put the collection away about seven years ago when tragedy struck my family, but kept the new issue service going. So I had years of stamps that I have recently started to mount, put on the appropriate pages, and put in sleeves.

As I am doing this, i am noticing some things I am missing, as well as several questions I have related to Minkus, the stamps themselves, and many variations. Hopefully, I can ask some intelligent questions here and get responses I can understand and put to use.

Thank you for letting me join and hopefully for helping me out.

Perry
