Hello Bernardo = BernardMX, good to see your introduction.

Perhaps it would have been shorter to list the countries and topics you don't collect ;)

But, joking aside, you really do have a lot of collecting interests, so you would never have trouble finding something new to add to one of your collections.

We see that you live in Huixquilucan, Estado de Mexico, MEXICO. I searched on the internet and found
Wikipedia wrote:Huixquilucan Municipality is one of the municipalities in the State of Mexico, Mexico. It lies adjacent to the west side of the Federal District (Distrito Federal) and is part of Greater Mexico City but independent of Mexico City itself. The name Huixquilucan comes from Nahuatl meaning place full of edible thistles.
I was hoping to find guidance about pronouncing Huixquilucan, but that entry does not show pronunciation.

Hi Roger , yes it is a difficult word.
The name "Huixquilucan" sounds like: Wis - ki , as in Whiskey , loo - can. :D
Thank you for the welcome , yes it should be easier to mention the places that I don't collect
Best regards from Huixquilucan MEXICO.

Hi - I'm new to stamp collecting. I've had a small collection for a while which was my Grandfathers and I've recently expanded it with my own, probably boring purchases. The usual Commonwealth stamps and the odd one off purchases of not very expensives stamps. Anyway I'm starting to get the hang of what is good, bad and ugly - although perforation counting still eludes me a litte. I've bought a couple of purchases on Ebay and I do have a specific question I'd like to ask at some point about a stamp I have. Not sure if I ask here or on a new post.

Thanks
Anna

Welcome aboard, Anna66 from UK.
Ebay is a strange place. We all say bad things about it, then turn around and make some purchases on Ebay :D
Important is doing what you enjoy. There is a wealth of information and a lot of people willing to share their knowledge (if asked nicely) on this forum.

Thanks BernardMX. The pronunciation guide Huixquilucan = "Wis - ki - loo - can" is very helpful! I can also see that remembering it will be helpful for tackling other place names and words from Nahuatl. No doubt there is close agreement between the spelling and the pronunciation, as with Spanish, and unlike English!

In the Stamps and Languages thread there are some related discussions, such as the pair starting at

Here is not really the place to continue this language discussion, so I'll continue briefly in the Stamps and Languages thread, at

Hello everyone!!

This is berting600 from Manila, Philippines. I was gone for quite a long time, because of this pandemic that lingers around the world, including my country. I am very sad about this situation, that we are in a granular lockdown. I am always glad that there are still new members I would like to welcome to our beloved board.

Hi all! My name is Jessica - my username ivychip is for my border collie Ivy and my quaker parrot Chipper. I'm from Melbourne, Australia - otherwise known as Lockdown Central.

I'm not a stamp collector - my family collect currency - but my partner is and it's his passion. I'm here to learn more about stamp collecting and perhaps in doing so appreciate and understand my partner's passion more.

I am an archivist and records manager by trade so I have a lot of appreciation for cataloguing anyways haha Nice to be on board, so to speak :)

Welcome to Jessica = ivychip in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

May I endorse Number-O-Ne's welcome? When it comes to couples and stamp collecting, the Venn diagrams range from two disjoint circles all the way through to two almost exactly overlapping circles. Evidently in your case the circles overlap a little, and you are choosing to nudge them closer. :D In fact, it's a famous mathematical problem to determine how far apart the centres of two identical circles should be in order for the area of the overlap to equal the enclosed area outside it...

This is Vivek from Chennai, India. I collect on the theme of cricket, the sport - mint, FDCs, and used on cover. Been collecting for 20 odd years now, before which I did a 'one of each country' collection.

I have been lurking and learning from these boards for a while and finally decided to jump in.

In my welcome to Jessica = ivychip in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia I included the remark:

Evidently in your case the circles overlap a little, and you are choosing to nudge them closer. :D In fact, it's a famous mathematical problem to determine how far apart the centres of two identical circles should be in order for the area of the overlap to equal the enclosed area outside it...

After writing that, I was motivated to think about some circle configurations, and wrote a discussion in the Patterns of Prediction thread:

Hi to all existing members. I am a newbie to Stamboards. My name is Rob McAloon and I live in Salisbury East in South Australia. I am 64 years old. I Collected Australian and UK stamps as a kid till I was about 18 years old. Even though I stopped collecting officially, I still continued to collect stamps on paper from work for approximately 40 odd years. So,You can imagine what I've been doing for the last couple of years. My fingers are still wrinkled from all the soaking. I Started collecting again about 2 years ago. I now collect Australian stamps including, A.A.T., Christmas Island and Papau New Guinea. I also collect N.W. Pacific Islands, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Norfolk Island as well as a few other Pacific Islands and South Australian Longtoms.

Welcome to overprints in Wilmington, Delaware, USA.

A Pacific neighbour of Fiji also has a nice variety of overprinted bird stamps that should appeal:

These were issued to extract money from collectors. I like the Fiji overprints because they were issued for actual use.

I understand and appreciate that distinction, thanks overprints. Superficially, the shortage or absence of needed denominations is a much more ethical reason for surcharge overprints than the intention to bring in extra revenue. On a deeper level, small island nations have relatively few natural resources and the need to increase national revenue can find a partial solution in philatelic sources. Admittedly, this can leave room for opportunistic exploitation by philatelic entrepreneurs, an opportunity that has too often been taken up.

As a nice exception, Singapore has found ways to solve the problems presented by small size and minimal natural resources. Strategic location has allowed port services to be thoroughly developed, and human resources have been developed intensively through excellent education. As a corollary, Singapore's philatelic profile remains moderate and attractive.

On the Fiji surcharges, overprints has given us a nice series of posts, starting at

After the first coup d'état, in 1987, I wrote a letter asking that the credit in my account be used to send me any newly overprinted or surcharged stamps that might be about to be produced. I received a reply that no stamps were going to be overprinted or surcharged...

Hi there. I am Martin, a software engnieer from Hong Kong. I recently rekindled my childhood interest in stamp collecting and think it would be a great idea to get together with other collectors online.
My main interest is currently limited to Hong Kong QV and KG VI and I plan to expand my collecting area to Chinese Imperial stamps and USA stamps. I grow my collection by bidding in auctions and eBay.
Nice to meet you all

Hello and welcome Martin = martinemily in Hong Kong.

Yes, we also have other keen Stampboards members in Hong Kong. Do you know member Stamp_fun? It's good to have social contacts who are stamp collectors, because our hobby benefits from social interactions...

Some light damage to the $10, consistent with parcel handling.
If the address had been left intact with the franking, the postal history
value of the piece would have improved considerably.

Hello From beautiful Nova Scotia,

A little disoriented by spending too long in the black hole known as Machin codes.

Can anyone direct me to a good source of images that would help my ancient eyes locate the codes and dates especially in "No Value Indicated " issues?

Some codes , like those on the "recorded signed for" issues, are quite easy to see. But others don't seem to appear anywhere. I collect used so cancellations get in the way. But I'd like to know if im looking at least in the right area of the stamp.

Thanks

Welcome to Stampboards EvertonDave!
