And ALL members are asked to heed this advice too -

Sadly the new software JAMS things up often. So we created the ADD SPACE button .. use that before you type anything, even words, or before any images, to stop that. It adds white space.

NOTE: Only click it ONCE .. yes two ''ADD SPACE'' html commands appear - that is just quirky coding. i.e. do not hit it TWICE as you will get very LARGE spaces then!

Those savvy members that use the PREVIEW button, will see instantly how that improves your final post! No more ugly jamming up of YOUR posts.

Near ALL mages posted here looked better CENTRED -- simply highlight the attachment image code and then hit CENTRE button as shown.

Also, when posting a string of 6 or 8 images, each butts up to one another - pretty ugly, with no definition between them. Using your SHIFT key to add space does not work.

There is a SUPER simple and fast solution to add a few mm of white space between them .. just manually add a full stop as shown here -

In another thread newer member Bart47 has posted

1 You mention the centring feature for an image. I can't work out how to use it. I don’t see any mention of it in the instructions about posting an image in the Roll Call section.
2 I can't find a way of managing the size of the images. I’d have liked to get more consistency of image size in that post just now but found no way of doing that.
3 Is there any personal messaging feature on this board?

Maybe you can help me on these. Thanks.

Hello Bachius, and others. If you insert the image between "centre" and "/centre" controls in square brackets (they are automatically supplied by the centre button) you get this placement:

Nice stamp wd40 .

It would oil your image if you enclose it between "centre" and "/centre" controls, using the "centre" button, and the caption would also be centred...

PlainShame - top marks - and a reminder to all - the word ''STAMP'' in caption is essential as google spiders cannot "see" what is in any image.

I was just looking at the Admin log of downtime and outages for stampboards for the past 16 months, since our super MAJOR upgrade in mid 2020. We moved from the flaky and buggy and erratic servers in Oklahoma, and I see we have since had almost ZERO downtime or outages, due to our new robust and large private servers in the USA, with relay back-ups, and load sharing on both coasts there.

We have logged just a few minutes downtime in TOTAL over 16 months. An incredible achievement, given the large user and visitor traffic we have here, and the vast data storage and back-up now of 7.5 million messages.

Facebook and YouTube has literally been out of action way more than we have in 16 months! My BANK website here is down regularly. As are most Stamp Auction sites. stampboards is as solid as a rock.

Yuriy in New York as always keeps it all ticking along very smoothly in the background, and is just about to update us to the very latest phpBB software, with even more features. He sourced the hosting company after days of research, and chose SUPERBLY, I am sure all will agree. :!:

AND we will expand our storage to an ever larger server system, seeing we now have well over a MILLION images self-hosted on our own SUPER SECURE servers now - we are truly the Wikipedia of stamp collecting. 8-)

We are the WORLD'S number one Stamp Bulletin Board because of our million images, and the vast depth of MILLIONS of posts of content, and that costs money to do, and to back-up robustly and securely forever.

Yuriy is not even a stamp collector - he just likes us as a quirky fun project for him, and has helped out for a decade or more here, so I'd again encourage ALL members to do your bit, and fund a pizza and some beers etc via PayPal in ANY currency to - yuriy [at] rusko.org (Think of it as your oblique Stampboards Membership Fee, or Crowd Funding!)

Just 100 generous Community minded members sending only a modest $10 or $20 pays for a lot of his time, and shows he is appreciated by those here who benefit from HIS super back-room skills. Please do it NOW. CROWD FUNDING at its finest. A new issue stamp set at the PO costs that! :)

Think of just how many valuable things you have learned, shared, swapped etc, and the many new friends made here. All of them worth $20 or so now, I am certain. :!: :!:

All the US hosting is at my cost, and always will be, and that runs to many $1000s a year, but please do show your small personal appreciation for the tech whizz who keeps that all ticking along with no glitches. He has quietly saved us from disaster MANY times over our long history, trust me. Spam attacks, hacking attempts etc, all foiled etc. :!:

Yuriy is one of the head coding and design developers globally of this phpBB board skeleton, used by millions of Bulletin Boards worldwide, most far smaller than this of course, and has customised the back-end of this version entirely for our needs - larger easy to read fonts given our demographic, added many different navigation buttons, very special attention to easy adding of images, and many other features not immediately obvious to the casual user.

I have never sent a text message in my life - true, and have never used Facebook or Twitter or Instagram, or had a Zoom meeting etc, so if you relied on my ''tech skills'', there would be a totally blank screen facing you right now!

There Are No Free Lunches In Life - so, please PayPal Yuriy a Pizza and some beers! yuriy [at] rusko.org .... PEOPLE POWER. 8-)

Thanks in advance -

Glen Stephens - owner of www.stampboards.com

Hi WillemStamps. All you need to do is use the "Place Inline" button to avoid the ugly white margin with "ATTACHMENTS" at the top. ;)

The pasting inline function seems to have recently been tweaked.

Previously it was possible to abut consecutive images if this was desired. Now space seems to be automatically inserted between consecutive images whether it is desired or not. This might be a work-around for those who were not inserting space between consecutive images, but it would be good to have the option to abut consecutive images when desired.

For example, I have recently made two consecutive posts which contain two halves of a screenshot page: not allowing them to abut unnecessarily adds space where it interrupts continuity:
https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=93774&start=217
Previously, posts of this kind displayed abutting images that had the accurate representation of the original pages, but now those earlier posts are all displayed with undesired spacing...

Yep.

Saves me an hour each day adding spaces for those too lazy to do it. No longer needed.

Space is now auto added between all text and all images, same story. ''AddSpace'' button is now generally not needed either. Another hour a day saved for me.

And post #1 here will all be updated too, in our ''spare time''.

We are changing the wording and buttons in posting box so as the ''Add Inline'' button gets used far more. Many HOURS of work behind the scenes, by many hard-working volunteers, that those above have zero knowledge of.

A large server is being added JUST to host the million plus images I now pay to host. A much more flashier and gruntier back end search paid program, to handle our volume.

For those paying attention, there is a test board to use for all the updates Yuriy has made - few seem to have bothered - or to have thanked him, or even sent him a Pizza - of course -

Testing Allanswood's suggestion of quoting, then removing the "quote" and "/quote" commands: it does display the two screenshots without space between. Hooray! But I can't see any characters that originally inserted the unwanted spacing. Does anyone have a solution that doesn't involve posting twice?

Sheriff misread my post. Everything below "The fixed post" was quoted from the other thread!

The phrase "to examine addition and multiplication" was a clear reference to the content in that thread.

When I'm composing a long post, I frequently use "Preview". However, sometimes I accidentally press "Submit" when I mean to press "Preview". Also, even when I press "Submit" deliberately, I frequently notice a typo that needs correcting, or I think of something additional I want to include.

In the past there has been a fairly comfortable amount of time to update/correct/add even after "Submit" has been pressed. Now I'm finding the "window of opportunity" for editing seems to have been drastically reduced. Even when the "editing pencil" icon allows a post to be opened and changes made, I have found that doing that and then pressing "Submit" again now more often than not results in the message "You can no longer edit this post" (or something equivalent). This has happened to several of my posts in the last couple of days, and in a few cases I've resorted to adding a supplementary follow up post when additional material was going to be inserted in a post just submitted. However, typos in the original post have been inaccessible to correction.

If I'm correct about reduced "window of opportunity" for editing , could we please return to the former setting? It was adequate, and I virtually never ran out of time to fix/adjust/supplement a very recently submitted post.

Previously it was possible to abut consecutive images if this was desired. Now space seems to be automatically inserted between consecutive images whether it is desired or not. This might be a work-around for those who were not inserting space between consecutive images, but it would be good to have the option to abut consecutive images when desired.
Previously, posts of this kind displayed abutting images that had the accurate representation of the original pages, but now those earlier posts are all displayed with undesired spacing...

Thanks bazza4338

• It's good to have that information about abutting two images horizontally ("side by side")
• Can we be sure that using that software produces a result fully compatible with Stampboards? For instance, if that pinetools software is subsequently tweaked, will that affect images on Stampboards that were created using the previous version of the pinetools software?
___________
,
• My discussion was actually about images being abutted vertically. For example, if you look at my 30 Oct 2021 post in the Patterns of Prediction thread, you will see that the two halves of an A4 page now appear with an unintended gap between them, even though this gap was not present when the post was originally made. The same is true for its immediate successor post, of 2 Nov 2021.
https://stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=93774&start=221
.
• Since I asked the question about avoiding that gap between two vertically arranged images of top and bottom half of a page, a "tip" was shared in this thread: make the post, then quote it, and the unwanted space disappears. (No visible control characters are being eliminated when this procedure is followed, but evidently some invisible ones are eliminated.) I did that tonight with the latest post in that thread(*):
https://stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=93774&start=224
.
• Ahh, now I see that one of the six images got lost in the process, so I'll have to add it in a supplementary post after all!

/RogerE :(

(*)Footnote: This involved some work-around effort to avoid leaving the unwanted gap-filled original post on view, duplicating the content of the post obtained by quoting, and eliminating its quotation controls.
(*)Another Footnote: The Sheriff didn't mention that I did send a pizza payment/"tip" to Yuriy when it was first suggested.

A followup apology/explanation:
I ran into unknown problems with my posts in the "Patterns of Prediction" thread, so in the meantime I've done basic posting there in order to preserve the content, without worrying about eliminating the undesired spacing between the vertically sequenced images...

The "trouble" is viewable at

and the latest make-do fix is at
