Interesting show on SBS last night - history of Kalgoorlie with HG Nelson. He went to Gwalia which had a connection to Herbert Hoover: http://www.gwalia.org.au/history/herbert-hoover/
Thanks for the link MJ’s Pet. Really enjoyed reading about the history of Gwalia and the unexpected connection with Hoover. I think I may have stumbled across my next area to collect after all! :D

OK, there is no issue identifying the PM... What I'm beaten on is finding out the period during which this particular PM was used, as it is different from most Collaroy Beach PMs I've seen. Hopefully, someone can help?

Good luck finding out Peter. Hopson & Tobin do not list the rubber cancels from that era.
And they don't give ratings for the postmarks they do list.
Your postmark was meant to be used for official use only and not to cancel stamps.
Probably used temporarily while the other postmarker was out of action.
Bottom line is VERY scarce on cover.

Not that easy to read, but this is Toumoulin, Qld. PPA just says see Tumoulin. Is there any significance to this spelling variation?

Hi Mike,

the Toumoulin postmark was in use from 1913 to 1926 and is rated 2R! After that it was spelled Tumoulin.

Can't comment on the numeral, but the KGV 1d red postmark seems to be Mitchell, which is rated common.

I'm sorry, maybe this is not the right topic, but I'll ask here.
Accidentally, when buying a wholesale, I came across such an envelope with Dubbo cancellation: MIL. P.O. DUBBO
Is this a military post postmark ? Is it interesting or is it just an ordinary postmark ?

Mobbor. With your other enquiry. The top of the oval cancel will say Electric Telegraph Office.
As for the bottom of the cancel this is a possibility only. (Given the location)

2020-12-09_181312.jpg

A lot of these type cancels I see are from Western Australia. This location is Queensland.

Wills River is not listed in the 1921 Post Office guide but it is in the 1925 issue. So opening date is uncertain.

There is a Basingstoke in Hampshire, in the south of England.

The Australian machine cancel is apparently 19 April and the ..SINGSTOKE cancel is 26(?) May.

So applied when it arrived in England.

Chris & Mike,

You need to stop doing your postmark searches in PPA as it is no longer updated.

The database has been copied into Phoenix Stamp Auctions where the database is updated for new information.

It is easier to read if we don't have to stand on our heads:

If your assumption of South Australia is correct, then the only Post Office, in Phoenix, with the first word ending "s" followed by Point is "Policeman's Point". It seems to be about the right number of letters.

Hi Folks,

It looks like another amateur mistake from my Original post noted from BigSaint that this postmark has a clear "SE 26" which then makes "Point" the last word.

Thanks again for all the expert help here to come out on top with "Milson's Point"
Awesome work,

Best of luck

I have been asked if I know what the No 2 & No 21 are on my Sydney Parcel Post Machine Cancels 1937/38 are..

I don't and the chap who asked me has No 20 & No 6 cancels which are much later around 1956..

I thought they may relate to the number of the actual machine they ran through or a long shot, they may relate to the Time that they went through the machine..

Hopefully someone has the answer beyond the shadow of a doubt..

Bunge,

I am sorry that I can’t help you with the specifics for these as I have never focused on them. However, among my notes I have a reference to an article written by Jack Leek that was published in the ACCC Bulletin of November 1975. I never did dig out a copy of it and can’t tell you where the reference came from or whether it is relevant.

My note was probably taken from another article.

Someone like David Collyer (ACCC) would probably be able to assist.
