So much for unexplained acronyms :?
Some leads, which might be relevant:
• The Australian Government's Australian Business Register ABN Lookup:
.

https://abr.business.gov.au/Search/ResultsAll?SearchText=southern+highlands+carpet+court
.
• Southern Highlands Carriage Club:

https://www.hotfrog.com.au/company/1072170133135360/southern ... nsw/horses
.
• You would think the postmark with SHCC likely refers to an AusPost facility, but why isn't it known to Google's search facilities?

I expect we will get an authoritative answer/solution here before long, but Iin the meantime I reiterate my complaint that unexplained acronyms are "anti-communication". The searches reported here show that one of the downsides of an unexplained acronym is that there might well be multiple entities with the same acronym!

These two manuscript cancellations (part of a lot of 12 in the upcoming Gartner sale) have the auctioneer (and me) baffled, Anyone able to marry up the cancellations to places that exist?

I'm not sure about the first cancel but the second one is the manuscript cancel for 'Robigana' in Tasmania, known used from 1914-1921 and rated by Hardinge as 'R'. ('scarce and certainly not plentiful, but not too hard to find')

The first one appears to start with a B and end with field.

The are only two places that in the PPA post office list that would match taking into account the apparent number of letters. Unfortunately the letters between the B and the f are not well formed.

BRAEFIELD...... NSW or
BRAMFIELD...... SA.

Whoever wrote B....field wrote it like my mother with a lot of the letters looking the same.

My initial thought was "Barryfield" but there is no such place. :?

The first is Brierfield N.S.W. Recorded by Hopson & Tobin in 1914.

Brierfield fits Big Tones:

Brierfield is a small New South Wales Rural Location within the local government area of Bellingen, it is located approximately 406kms north of the capital Sydney covering an area of 52.064 square kilometres. Brierfield has a recorded population of 333 residents and is within the Australian Eastern Daylight Time zone Australia/Sydney.

No wonder it could not be found in Phoenix:

Thanks everyone for the input. Was deciding whether to bid on the lot....... The Queensland Commonwealth 'Roo numeral cancels looks a slightly better bet.

Looks like I have have finally got an answer to this R.O.

IMG_20210803_0001 (2).jpg

An expert in Tasmania says the manuscript actually says Vera Duggan, the postmistess at Pelverata, a rural settlement between Cygnet and Margate. He says that a ms endorsement and a datestamp is unusual in Tasmania. He says a week or so later Pelverata was issued with a rubber provisional datestamp, which is rated 3R. So this is probably rarer.

mobbor,

That is brilliant work. Good on you and I agree, the manuscript will be a lot rarer.

I have this pair of 1d Tasmania pictorials with ‘King’s Island’ postmark.

Is this a scarce postmark as research shows the island, part of the New Year Islands, even today has a very low population.

Image
I cant see that this has been answered and if not, the answer is no, its not scarce. There were two states of this postmark. The " 'S" at the end of King disappeared due to wear over time and so you will find it as "King Island" with a feint " ' " still showing as well.

Looks like it Roger. See if your postmark measures 26.5 mm across.

I can now confirm that the circular date stamp = cds on the Sheard cover does have diameter 26.5mm.

I looked at that the other day and you can see the real postmark is black and at the left of the stamp.

I was thinking of something along the lines of a Royal Insurance receiver or similar. Note there is no dateline.

Yes! Not postal at all. It has the overall look of a cachet of some kind. Could be anything really: Royal Melbourne Golf Club?

Postmarks from N.S.W. are not really my thing, but this one grabbed my attention.

Single line Grass Hut NSW on State stamps, so probably during the R.O> period.

Grass Hut (1)

RO 1/4/1895; PO 1/7/1927; closed 7/7/1939

Any idea as to rating?
