Underpaid Mail Experiment

Post by AMark »

Underpaid Mail Experiment

Now that the holidays are over and Postal Authorities are paying more attention to the mail being sent, it’s time for another experiment.

I will mail ten covers to members in ten different countries.

The stamp that I am going to use on each cover will be the 63¢ Year of the Horse stamp. Each covers will be underpaid because the stamp is for domestic use only. Furthermore, I will mail each cover without an Air Mail label and I will mail one cover per day.

Year of the Horse stamp

If you are interested in participating, please add a post to this thread.

When the covers arrive at their destinations, please post images of the received covers.

Thank you.

I'll be very interested to see the results of this experiment. Before the holidays I inadvertently sent a letter to the US franked with a domestic stamp (didn't realize until later) and it got through no problem.

Back when I was a younger collector (we are talking decades here) I used to do the same thing - mail underpaid covers to myself - Occassionally a "tax to be collected" was stamped on the cover but the friendly local postman always spoil things by waiving the tax (ie "Postage due" labels)
The other experiment I did was to mail covers using Revenue stamps ie to the same exact value (10 cents for a cover in those days) - I got tired of that as ALL the mail were delivered with the Revenue stamps duly franked (I don't think the authorities cared - a 10 cent was a 10 cent)

Hi Mark,

I'd like to participate also - I will mail you an underpaid cover from South Africa. many of our stamps now don't have values, just wording such as 'Small international letter' or 'Africa airmail'. I plan to use an 'Africa airmail' stamp on a Canada letter, let's see what happens :-)

Ok, I will mail an underpaid cover to all that have posted in this thread.

In total, there will be 16 covers mailed out. Since there are so many of you, I will mail two covers per day instead of one.

Now, I need addresses from Tiredinsyd and tusha3. Please send them to me via the SB e-mail.

Thank you Everyone for your interest and participation in this experiment.

P.S. No more covers are available.

Underpaid cover on its way to Canada from South Africa, with a rather unique 3D dinosaur stamp :-)

If you look at it through 3D glasses (like the ones you use at 3D cinemas), the stamp 'comes alive'.

From this set, paying postcard rate, about 25% less than letter rate:

I can send a few letters with the same stamp myself, if there are more people interested.

The only thing is, I suspect the letters will bounce back to my mailbox. If they do not, then there must be something terribly wrong with Canada Post.
