Just hang fire please until we have confirmation from PdotK and woomik.
I'll create a new thread specifically for Race 9 at that point.

They have removed the cancel devices from the disks, so if I wanted a cover cancelled, I would have to send it in to the philately postoffice, specify where the cancel should go and then they would forward it.

So no races for me :/

With Cover race 7 and 'postcard specials' races 8 & 9 still plodding around the globe I wanted gauge opinion on the races in general before considering starting race 10.

The postcard races have not, IMHO been as successful as the cover races for a number of reasons.
(i) Postcards seem to be treated with some disdain by postal services, the races are taking considerably longer than cover races and the likelihood for loss and damage increases
(ii) Postcards are considerably smaller and space for six countries franking is tight

kloster's comments above and challenges for some entrants getting hand cancels and/or stamps removed are typical of the races to date.

I for one, would like to continue with cover races; the finished covers from races 1-6 have been great and I'd certainly enter another however I'm not sure the postcard races are worth persevering with.

Is the interest still there for continuing the races?
Should we continue with cover races only?
Other thoughts and comments?

I love to follow the races. The postcard races are indeed not so exciting. The lack of interests is also a big issue. Perhaps some more specific themed races? The “Lunar New Year of the Goat/Ram/Sheep Round the World Covers” had some really nice resulting covers.

While we do have a few members from certain Countries who can still easily obtain hand cancelled stamps on covers, and get to Post Offices regularly to service these covers, the main issue seems to be the difficulty in getting hand cancels and a guarantee that items will be forwarded as received from many places.

Members from the major players (hell, I'll name them UK, Canada, Australia) have never, or rarely had an issue going forward with these games. Others have jumped in once, and have deserted after one try, finding the whole thing simply too difficult.

Even that great bastion of freedom, the USA deliberately screwed up 5 covers in one race, because the thought of foreign stamps going on US posted mail apparently offended the Postal Clerks. The sixth went via Ireland, so they never got the chance to mess with that one,

I am beginning to think that Bureaucracy is the real problem here.

I think Postcard races are great too. Race 9 Special Race has been going good enough. Challenges will be there but maybe we can bring in some creativity - how about surprise giveaways etc? Maybe that attracts more people. Or Cover+Chain - if A like flora stamps, then B sends cover with max of 10 WW flora stamps (everyone in the chain mentions their themes).

I think its a great forum - im enjoying it

Hi Anichat, sorry, I do not agree with having a "chain" connected with a cover race. I for one would not join in.

If someone wants to join a chain that is fine but not here. My opinion only of course, and if everyone would like to see that happen, then it can happen.

I have enjoyed the cover and the postcard races so far. At times they seem to be a bit slow but, so be it!

Makes it exciting when they do turn up!

I am trying to work out how a combined race/chain could even work. You send the first letter to the second person in the race, with X number of stamps in it, then that member has to open the letter, retrieve his/her stamps, then reseal it with another X number of stamps inside, and this same envelope then has to go through 6 iterations? There is no way a single envelope would go around the world after being opened and closed 6 times without being completely destroyed.

I am not seeing it. Not at all.

For the first time since we started these races in July 2014 we're in danger of not having the next race ready for the off before all others have completed. I've added my name to race 10 so 2 slots left in both 10 & 11.

OK, this thread has had nearly 7,000 hits. So I am now very interested in why some people who have read or browsed this thread have not joined in the fun and have decided that no, it's not for me.

It would be wonderful to find out how to keep the races going via constructive criticism from those who read this, but do not put their names in the hat. I think that this is a very important thing to establish, so we can find a way forward.

Come on people! This is the best fun you are bound to have for quite a while and with a little luck ( unfortunately some covers do go missing...but it's all part of the game!) you will end up with the most awesome cover or postcard.

My theory for lost covers, is that someone else in the world is so taken with our awesome covers, they just can't resist keeping them!

We should maybe include on our covers, the Stampboard Logo so maybe, they will be more inclined to join in... we get more members and they will nicely pass on our covers!

Only a theory.....

Let's get this up and running again!

I would like to enter both of the races again! They are great fun.

If you get any new Australian entrants though, give them first crack and put me down for a following race.

Thanks for organizing! :D

Race 11 'Postcard Special #3' tentative start end February 2016

I was about to enter No 10 again but unfortunately must duck out .

I'm away for 2 weeks at the end of Feb and for 3 weeks in April. I think that would wreck any race , Sorry (I enjoyed the last one No 6)
whatever it is -------it's better than a poke in eye with a wet umbrella !

Just a suggestion. Maybe we can open the Race as new Topics in the forum to attract attention :?: . Or maybe it's just my eagerness
