I also have many spares of locals (and like Darren for many other countries).

Is there any interest in Stampboarders for showing these spare locals?

I am also sure are that Darren and I can negotiate some swaps!

Maybe I will stick extras on ´selling surplus stamps` and see what happens?

An interesting area for collecting.

It has been a lot of fun watching this thread and waiting for you to get to items that match or are a close match to the meager number of Private posts I have.

Similar to one of the first of your Berlin images above...
Image
It is in sorry shape... darker than yours... cut to shape and on card stock. Is this from the post card you illustrate later... (note the broken frame line at the bottom not seen on your post card)?

Next is one that I think is identical to the fifth one in your scan above...
Image
Lastly... similar to the last one in your scan above but a different color, (or toned).
Image
Comments or info? I do have a few more types.

This is the card your first one has been cut from I think.

The second one is Lloyd E 2U (or it could be 2N which is a reprint without gum €0.50) with a catalogue value of €1.

The third I believe will also be a cut out as there were many light weight envelopes and letter cards. The company wasn't around for long and there is no mention of different papers. I have probably 30 or more copies of this stamp and all are the same type of paper. I don't have a good reference for the postal stationary yet. I don't even know if any exsist.

Pop any others up by all means.

But I only have 4 more...all I think well identified by your thread.

I have never gone out of my way to research them as my holdings are so minor. I only had a vague idea of what they were and a mild suspicion some of them were fantasies.

I love to buy and process mixtures, old collections and mystery lots and these have turned up over the years.

Again, thanks for the thread!

One of the consequences of collecting town locals is an accumulation of other "odd" stamps. I often get locals from other countries, railway stamps, poster stamps, fiscal stamps or something completely unexpected.

These stamps are mentioned in Michel at the rear of the Private post catalogue. They are for the Saxon Shipping Company which is still in operation today. The set starts at 5Pf and runs up to 500Pf. I only have these 3. I understand that these were in use between 1913 and 1926. I have no idea of value or scarcity.

From Wikapedia:

"At the suggestion of the Dresdner merchants Benjamin Schwenke and Friedrich Lange, a request for the operation of steam navigation on the river Elbe was filed on March 16, 1836, to the Saxon Government. On March 25, 1836, Elbdampfschiffahrts society was founded with the constitutive meeting, twelve other citizens included in addition to the two merchants. Shares at a nominal value of 100 thalers received 1500 until May 5, 1836. On July 8, 1836 Friedrich August II of Saxony. the privilege to the steam navigation in the Kingdom for a period of five years has been granted by King of the society. Condition was the inclusion of ship transport within a year."

I finally managed to find some good quality copies of these enormous stamps from Hamburg. I added the extra image to give you a concept of their size. The two stamps cover the full width of a Hagner page. It is very difficult to obtain good used copies (catalogued at €200+ each). Mint copies in good condition are also very difficult. The view displayed and the quality of the printing makes them a very sort after stamp even outside collectors of German locals.

I have started to sell off some of the areas I don't collect as well as some of the German Town Local duplication to finance the filling of the gaps in the Berlin Town Locals.

The stamps that I am adding have recently arrived after 2 months of "Covid 19" travel. An airmail trip that is normally under 2 weeks. Many of these stamps I have never seen in the "flesh" until these arrived and most I have never been able to source until I discovered a German collector with a massive collection and the knowledge that goes with it. I hope you enjoy seeing these rarities.

This reads “Gultig bis 15.8.1944” (Valid until 15.8.1944). These were simple and fairly rough printing and were printed in preparation for the service to start and as a temporary measure until the later more detailed stamps were supplied.

Hello and welcome Windigo.

Yes, I for one would welcome you adding to this thread.

A lovely cover in excellent condition.

Please also add some details to the "Roll Call" thread so people know a little about you.

Looking forward to seeing what else you have.

Thanks. "Roll Call" is done. On 2th June 1897 Berliner Privatpost und Spedition AG did not exist anymore but stamps, covers ect. could be used with the Packetfahrt company which had bought good old Spedition A.G. This is also from the first day but after the fusion.
