That $1.20 Von Mueller Sheetlet of 10 is a great piece - and those stamps are really hard to find as fine used singles.

Nice franking for sure. :D

...and here it is. Ta Dah!!!!

Image

The sharper eyed of you will note that it is cancelled on 8th June and today is 15th June which means that it has travelled over 10,500 miles in just 7 days.

To put this in context I ordered the A-Z stamp sheet from Royal Mail and was quoted 3-4 weeks delivery time. From London to Manchester. And it actually took nearly 5 weeks. Anyway, I digress.....

Carefully hidden under the outer plastic wrapper I found the following (and so many thanks to all before who have alerted me to these 'finds')

Image

Super cancelled mini sheets now safely tucked up in a Hagner.

Thanks once again to Glen for outstanding service. If you keep this up your reputation for sending stuff 'when you get to it' will be shot to bits!

Good to see Jon and even on a light little lot, we try and come up with Goodies!

The Exhib sheets were the specially numbered and/or overprinted ones, and as such used to be $5 or $10 EACH! :)

Good to hear Rob. 8)

That $40.65 franking of WaterBirds has SG cat as used of £95.50. :)

So indeed pretty much "Free Postage" of a huge box across the country - offer them for sale here at $30 or $40 the blocks and you will prove that!

The other stamps I left on the box - snipping them off weakens the box, and it was simply an extra bonus on top of the $40 postage paid.

Actually, I have a question with these. The stamp blocks were folded along one of the perforations.

Would it be wise for me to soak these and try sticking them in one of my Desert Magic books to remove the crease?

Willig - as they have full gum, I assumed you'd simply slide them back into the special pack - which is why I included the empty pack.

None of the stamps is creased in ANY way. The pack still has the original sort PVC pockets, so you can just drop the sheets back in.

They are $35 a set used when in the pack, so do not lose it. :)

As the thread heading says - "Free Shipping" when you order from Glen. :)

I know nothing about franking so I would appreciate your thoughts. Apologies if this is not the correct forum for this.

Below is the franking I received on a Glen package in 2010. It is very different to all the other mailings shown in this thread so my question is - Is there "Free" Parcel Shipping Stamp Frankings here. If so, what should I do with them (storage wise etc.) ?

Hi there neracoel - I would snip around them, soak them and then place them in a stamp drying book and when dry, place them in an stamp album, hagner or stock book.

neracoel - yep, soaking them off is the conventional practice.

That was from the period I had a kid "helping out' in packing via work experience it looks like - a very short lived trial.

Glen - I know, whoever it was drew a REALLY BIG CIRCLE around the address. Also, did you notice the upper right stamp on the leftmost block got a bit scraped off the top - I've seen this with quite a lot of mail from Australia but not other places, wonder if anyone else has had a problem with this? I thought it might be the sorting machinery but would this large a piece have gone through the automatic sorters??

Darn .. can't see how anything got scraped - it was a huge perfectly flat envelope as you know, with strong stiffener, so no mechanised sorting of THAT!

Well the postman arrived today bearing gifts :D :D :D

This is the first time I had purchased from Glen and the first ACSC catalogue I have owned.

I followed the instructions outlined by Glen carefully. Reached for the Stanley Knife ... making four neat cuts around the edges of the invoice envelope.

There under the plastic, safe as house's with full gum were three new additions.

Been in Adelaide for a few weeks tending to sick parents, so needed to mail packets of stamps I purchased down there, out to clients.

Including that one above to Robert. I was without all my usual packing material down there of course, so the outer was a brown Subway Sandwich bag, turned inside out.

Re-Cycling lives. :)

The franking above proves to all that have a friendly local postmaster who knows you well is NOT an essential to get nice postmarks. 8)

I had never been into that Post Office in my life, until that day.

Brighton is a busy Adelaide suburban PO.

As always the trick is to take in your postal items with ABOUT the correct stamps affixed already and tell them it is going to a stamp collector, and ask with smile if they might neatly cancel it please.

Clerk looked a bit surprised, but added-up my franking - twice, and advised me i was a little OVER.

I advised him my client would NOT want me to tear the 55c stamp off the mini sheet to save 55c so the overpayment was fine with me.

Then he REALLY looked at me weird - do not think he ever has a customer offering to pay MORE than was needed on a parcel! (Mind you, that mini sheet postally used would be near unique!)

After asking nicely, the clerk then carefully and neatly cancelled them all, as can be seen.

I went in the next day with several other pre-franked parcels, and luckily got the same clerk. This time he was already "trained up" - got out his cancel, and went to work. :) :)

Bought a 2013 edition of SG Part 1 1840-1970 Catalogue from Glen, I found two sheets of nice looking postage in a plastic pouch safely under the address label.

And a free Video Stamp tied on the outer packaging, I guess it maybe was the first postal used to China destination. :D

The funny twist is that Zhang emailed me today to say his SG Cat had arrived safely, but advised sadly there were no stamps on parcel.

He has bought off me many times, and even HE did not realise they were neatly totally hidden UNDER the address label.

See post #1 of this thread, where Stallzer tossed his parcel wrappings away, also assuming I had not used stamps - and was upset! Same story.

Shipping overseas can run $50 to $100 a packet these days (often far higher) and getting this kind of CTO franking really means you get "free postage".

Post on the Catalogue cost almost as much as it did, as it is so heavy.

ALL dealers and auctions should do this, but sadly almost none do these days.

How do you describe these goodies ....

Should I say that they are postally used (which is what they are) or CTO?

Thanks Robert1. :D

I must say the combination design in this scan is made by me, not by Glen.

Glen, we are all careless men... I just could not find the thread about you which showed the scene of your work rooms, but the postage is always the best and neatest thing you have done in your work room.
Glen's shipping and franking is almost a work of art ! Wait till he sends you a suitcase or other odd item - he is a creative genius when it comes to packaging !

He had warned me TWICE to go looking, but I did not find the place under the WHOLE address labels, until he contacted me. :o

Not a parcel as such but a nice Airmail envelope, which of course will be kept as an entire. :D

I'm posting this here not so much as a recognition of the fabulous franking and genuine usage of stamps on cover, but more to ruin Glen's reputation.

You see I ordered this item on the 27th, paid on the 28th and it arrived at my door on 31st January.

By any standards that's quick and frankly not up to the 'I'll send it when I get round to it' disclaimer on your site.

Keep this up and your bad name will be destroyed forever

I used to always admire this M/S, and think I should pick one up. Then one day when leafing through one of my stockbooks, I discovered I had one on the last page, from a Glen shipment. Australia Post should do more of these Archive issues.

I've learned quite a bit from these boards, not least is the value of postally used high values on cover!

There will be no water anywhere near this bad boy

Here's a few more of the CTO blocks of cancelled stamps Glen uses to pay the postage on overseas packages.

It appears to have something to do with some sort of cup.
