Here's another big traffic-light block used by Glen to mail parcels to Chicago. A $1 America's Cup.

All the America's Cup Blocks (above) and this Tasmania bicentennial traffic-light block were on the same heavy parcel from Glen - plus a lot more.

I swear, I thought these were Christmas stamps for a while because of the "wreath" and the old mansion.

Thick and fast, they came at last, more and more and more.

Yet another handsome block used by Glen on a single parcel to Chicago, along with the Cup (multiple), Power and Tasmania blocks above.

Without consulting SG, I'm guessing the subject is Bridges.

By coincidence, and as an aside, I received the Face of Australia top row, second from the left as a "single" on correspondence on Tuesday. Had the young ladies (believe they are 29yo) at the Mawson Post Office in a bit of a tizz because of this "new Hugh Jackman stamp"...

Jim .. I reckon if you list those 2 for sale here at $15-$20 they'd sell in a heartbeat, and the shipping on your large package was hence "FREE"!

Those 16 "Faces" stamps get around $20 a set on their own on ebay when used. 8)

I'll see what I can dig out to use for your Nauru box. :)

Hand cancelled at the post office, neatly folded and then slipped into a clear plastic, protective pouch. Personally, I often do it using those "invoice enclosed" shipping pouches.

Glen has similar pouches and other members have their own ways, such as using a protective plastic pocket to cover the stamps once cancelled. This also prevents over zealous postal working attacking the stamps with pen or texta!

This $8.00 booklet only contained $4.10 worth of stamps, but it also included a $4.00 entrance ticket to the 1989 Stamp show in Melbourne, Australia.

The back cover of the booklet was also a tram ticket. Also inside was seven pages of information on the history of trams.

The stamps were a different Perf to the sheet version, plus they were Imperf top or bottom. The pane had a Stampshow '89 overprint in the selvedge.

There are three known overprints of this booklet....

The ASDA Dinner, the Opening Sydney Tramway System, and the Opening Sydney Tramway Extension.

The tram tickets on the back of the booklets are no longer valid.

Paper tickets were phased out when met card was introduced and met card use/credit was phased out when Myki came in a couple of years ago.

They would have been a good investment as the cost of all day travel is now $7.52 and was higher before a recent change.

Pretty cheap for all day travel on trains, buses, and trams, yet people still whinge.

Tram travel in the Melbourne CBD is free.

Now having answered the question, a big thankyou to someone who may be a board member for a donation that arrived at Sammy Stamps on Thursday.

Someone has obviously purchased a lot from Glen recently and sent the left overs to Sammy Stamps. The parcel arrived as two boxes taped together. Inside was a wide variety of Castlecrag franked sheets such as the one listed below.

Again thank you. The stamps will be put to good use.

Ha!

The joys of packing things at 2 minutes to 5pm!

There are TWO totally different types of this Don Bradman $4.50 Sheetlet of 10. One with wording down side margins and the other type that does not. They look very similar.

So genius packer here at 2 minutes to 5, THOUGHT 2 different clients were both getting one of each, and hence the quick note in case they did not notice.

If you purchase goodies from Glen, remember to arm yourself with a craft knife slit along the label at the plastic bag hidden under the address and customs label.

And you too can receive superb stamps and frankings like the ones I got this morning, in Fife, Scotland.

The members at my local club were impressed this afternoon when I showed them the postage stamps. 'Very ingenious' was the verdict.

Thank you Glen.

Well done. :)

As I recall the SG cat as USED was about £70 ($A150) and Registered postage was only $25 or $30, so this is truly "Free Postage" for a heavy packet over 10,000 miles.

The mail only too a WEEK from here to Scotland - I wait THREE weeks at time for local parcels.

First post on this thread this calendar year, and it is somewhat "off topic"...

I recently (22 Jan 2016) bought a set of six 30c Adelaide 2016 CPS stamps from Glen for $150, and Glen sent it that day registered mail (which infers insurance of $100). To bring slightly back on topic, scan below with some nice CDS booklet stamps - block of six Eucalyptus).

Image

Image

Postage from Castlecrag is normally a day or two. After a week, I was starting to get worried, but then I saw a 31 Jan 2016 post about Margo "rescuing" a couple of sets of these stamps from one of Glen's junque boxes (https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=68419) , so I waited another week to see if Glen had a tracking number (for an uninsured item that I had not requested be sent registered mail) - which he did have, and which he was able to find immediately.

Glen has previously shared of a 2007 picture of his desk

Image

Tracking indicated that the letter had been received by the Castlecrag Post Office on 22 Jan - but had gone no further in the Australia Post "system". Glen suggested I wait a few days, and then if the letter had still not arrived, to lodge a "lost item complaint" with my local post office.

By this stage, my $150 item now had a retail value of $1,600 ...

My post office verified that the item had been registered, and had been sent, but no tracking had taken place beyond Castlecrag (it had not registered as having been received by an Australia Post business/processing centre). My local postmaster further advised that it was unlikely that I would get any money back - but Glen might, as the sender of the letter (I let Glen know that good news  ).

Anyway, about a week after lodging my lost item complaint with Australia Post, I finally received my registered letter.
Image

Just short of four weeks for a Registered letter from Sydney to Canberra.
For the record, whilst apparently "registered in" at 6.28am on Wednesday 17 February, it was not there when I collected my mail an hour later.

I'm not sure if it made a difference that I had submitted a lost item complaint, but by the time it arrived, the retail value had increased even further (to $1950 - 13 times the purchase price).

It has been suggested that the moral of this story is to insure my stamps ... I could have paid a $1.50 premium to insure against a loss by Australia Post.

However, insurance is not retrospective, and although Glen is a "nice bloke", the $150 reimbursement (from Glen, or his insurance broker) would not have covered the current replacement cost of $1,950.

I'm also fairly sure that any insurance agent might query "13 times over-insurance" (but I'm sure you could, based on my experience, request insurance of $25,350 for a purchase of this set at today's prices  )

Anyway:

* I have my stamps
* It was Australia Post, not Glen (or even Margo) who temporarily lost my stamps
* Registered Post has limited utility (insurance and tracking wise)
* Insuring stamps in a booming market is problematic
* Glen puts nice stamps on letters, not just parcels.

Here you go.... work of art by Glen ... just received this week on a large parcel here.

I am thinking of trying to sell them, because if I start collecting Australia I may end up homeless.

So best to sell them if I can before I get tempted... the money will go back into my collections I am sure.

An unfortunate misplacement of a Registration label on the strip of five by the normally infallible Castlecrag Post Office, but it gives me the excuse to suggest "Such is Life" (and then provide this link https://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2014/11/14/4128818.htm )

Image

No issues with the bicentennial pair, and some duralite will probably remove the Australia Post registration label.

Glen also provided a couple of freebies, which I'll post on another thread.

Idiots .. was not done at Castlecrag that is for SURE. I saw the letter being placed after cancelling into the canvas mail sack.

A dab of Eucalyptus oil will of course remove all stickers from anywhere.

It is a LETTER and parcel tracking labels are ILLEGAL to use on letters!

If it was added at my PO as can be seen or it would have been entered in there on system -

Probably a mail centre Jim. Huge A4 envelope to place their pointless sticker on, and they plop it over VFU stamps.

Good to see they made it OK Jim ... that AAT Gold Overprint was a cool looking piece. :)

Mailed this to a member today.

Postage cost $5, and the SG cat value of these about SIXTY quid used = $A120!

The 15c are cat £10 each used and there are 3 of them etc.
