Anyone seen this 1983 Norfolk Island 200th Anniversary of Manned Flight Aviation sheet amazing misperforated Miniature sheet before?

Pretty spectacular, and technically perforated only 3 sides at right units!

Bought it in an Estate where buyer noted he'd paid $750 - cannot see a single reference to it on the web - can anyone?

Glen

First example I have seen. I cant recall any previous mention of it.

However, as a once off, that may not surprise.

If it was purchased around issue date, $750 sounds about right for that time.

Yes, can find zero google trace of them, which is rather odd.

There cannot have just been one of them you'd think?

Was going to list it up for $500-$600 or so, (stock 527JX) but was checking there was not a number of them out there.

Did another Google search for it tonight and cannot see a single reference to this in - very odd - so no-one else who collects Norfolk has ever seen one?

Thanks Chris … well clearly none have been about in the UK over the years it seems.

Seldom do I offer a unique stamp item from Norfolk, but this appears to be one. If it were an Australia 1980s unique M/S with his error, I'd be adding a zero.

By pure luck it is an Aviation/Planes topical which is incredibly popular globally.

The stamps are perforated 14½x14, the M/S is 105x100 mm. Did the M/S come perforated? Can someone show a scan of a perforated M/S? sg# 304/7.
I buy too much, can't sell enough - but the information here is priceless.

They are common Jack.

$A4 POSTED and this one is all yours! All you need to do is somehow move the perfs a half inch to the right and remove all the RH vertical perfs and you too have the same error!

This is a most interesting item. Not only is the sheet misperforated, but it is also missing a complete vertical perforation on the right side. The issue was designed by Walsall Security Printers and printed by Format International. Clive Feigenbaum was involved with that company in the 1980s. There were a number of questionable practices and issues, including errors.

Back to this sheetlet. If it was line perforated I could understand that the vertical perforation was omitted. However the sheet is comb perforated so how would it be possible to miss that perforation. Just some thoughts on this "rare" item.

Seemed to happen a lot with Australian issues of this exact same era. All fully listed and priced in ACSC. A few I have sold recently are shown below.

All were comb perforated, and had the same errors. Gibbons never list imperf one side from any country like the 20c Waterfalls.

Aust 1985 33c Snugglepot Imperf 3 sides pair 7-17.jpg

Australia 1985 Children's Books 33c se-tenant strip of 5 "Imperforate Three Sides” stunning error: One of the greatest modern printing errors, as computer electric eye checking ensure this kind of major error does NOT occur generally in recent decades. ACSC tells us this was caused by the omission of a single strike of the perforating comb, from the 5th vertical column, of a right hand pane of 50 stamps. Fresh superb centred MUH.

ACSC #1111b, Cat $750, back 15 years ago in 2002 when last printed, so would likely be DOUBLE that, in any new edition. The error is one of the classic stamp designs, from the “Tales of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie” i.e. the best known of the May Gibb's stories of the Gumnut Babies. The other 4 stamps feature art designs by Norman Lindsay, Charles Bancks ‘Ginger Meggs’, and ‘Blinky Bill’ etc. Ironically Australian. NEVER handled this one before in the 37 years since issue - just $A565 (Stock 793EQ)

Someone emailed me to ask if the perf gauge matched on this, and a normal sheet. Overlaid them and a perfect match.

Also the gum is the same on both right down to the 100s of those blue logos printed on the gum of these and other issues of around this time period. 8-)
