I think it's a distorted SDL. The 0 in particular has a Halo effect as do some of the letters.
ERD.

Here's a new edition to my collection..

Kybybolite ~ Type C4 ~ 3/7/1930 - 15/6/1954 ~ Rated C

This must be the ERD if nobody else has claimed it since the printing of the books..

The date is 13/6/1927

Another one for you Neville

I assume this is ~ Adelaide Type UF4a-3 ~ 25/5/1865 - 27/4/1866

If so this would be the new LRD ~ 16/8/1866

This one has me puzzled; by the date it should be Pt Pirie ~ SC6a I would assume, but there is no visable dash under the "T".. Nor a dot..

What are your thoughts on it Neville ?

based on the date this PT ADELAIDE should be SC5 - the only problem is there is no dash or dot under the T at all. The cancel is very clear which makes this absence strange - not just worn out

Hi Tony,

The cancel looks like SC5, but there is actually quite a bit of wear on it, note the wear on the 'E', 'L', 'A', and 'D'. Even the 'P' is missing a small amount of ink. My guess is that the 'dash' just didn't show in the strike due to lack of uniform pressure.

On the other hand, the 'P' seems to be horizontal to the dateline on your stamp which the 'P' on SC5 doesn't seem to do.(see illustration in the PSSA book) Is this possibly a new postmark type?

Cheers,
Mike

Here is another I have been unable to choose the correct Type for..

GPO Adelaide - Index N - Dated either 1873 or 1877, I sway toward 1877.. But the "O" is certainly not "roundish" it's plainly oval..

What do you think Neville ?

Yes, could be an inverted '2'. Not particularly uncommon to have numbers /letters inverted in the dateslugs during those times. I have quite a few inverted dates in my collection.

Thanks for your input tilloson & Mike.. Yes I can definately see an inverted 2 there; if that's the case that changes the possible Type completely..

Not only is the Index not mentioned as yet, the date is quite some months earlier too than anything from 1872 so far recorded and there is no image for F1-2.. And one more thing, the cancel is more likely 22mm and not the 24mm which Type F1-2 is..

So it beats me :?

Here's another one that doesn't quite fit with what I can see.. The closest I can find is DpxT-26 but that is 24mm, this is 22-23mm at most.. The date is 4 digit and the Index S fits..

If it is DpxT-26 then it's the LRD by 3 1/2 months..

And here is a faint Registered Adelaide, dated 23/10/1894, so it has to be Type SC2..

This appears to be Index 11, where there are -, 1 to 10 recorded so far..

Here's another, but unfortunately I only have part of the cancel, and no date..

If this is CrollT - STH-AUST.12, then it is most certainly prior to 22/11/1967

So you don't have to look it up the stamp was issued 20/10/1961

What are your thoughts on it Neville ?

And another which may or may no be an 1870's date..

Waukaringa ~ Type F1 ~ 13/7/1881 - 17/8/1891

The date here is obscure to say the least, but I don't think it's an 1880's date;(unless they got even that inverted) could be 1876, which fits with the date of the PO opening in Dec 1875..

Thoughts please Neville..

Here's a confusing one, it appears to be Port Pirie ~ Type F1-2 dated 28/5/1901, could be 28/7, but it looks more like MY than JY..

Now there is a 23/5/1901 ~ Rated 5R ~ I imagine for it's late use, but there is no mention of Index numbers, mine has an Index 4..

Thoughts on this one too please Neville..

And another

I was a bit unsure about this cancel a bit earlier, but now with the aid of another Stampboarder, I believe this to be Orroroo..

Orroroo ~ Type F1 ~ 16/8/1878 - 14/11/1882 ~ Index -, 1,2 ~ Rated R
9/7/1894 ~ Rated 5R

If so it is the new LRD ~ 9/5/1885

Hi Tony, thanks for your suggestion: I don't have any reference to an SC5 only SC5a and it certainly isn't SC5a as the letters are half the size on my cancel, and not a hint of the outside bars..

So I'm still at a loss to what it is :?

Well it definitely won't be 07 with a 2d KGV on it, and with the date range being 1900 to 1938 my guess is either 27 or 37 put in where the index would normally live. A KGV expert would probably be able to help there, I am not an expert on those issues. I got out of them before they sent me completely potty.

Hahndorf, SC 2, has a listed LRD of 19-1-1900. That has to be a typo (two of my three copies are later than that) but I'm wondering what the intended date was. Perhaps 19-1-1910?

Sigh. Of course, on one the postmark is misidentified and on the other the date is. Never mind.

But here are a couple that might be more useful.

Image

Hahndorf Type 1 new LRD (must be 1895, rather than 1885, because that stamp was issued in 1893).

And if that's correctly identified as Halbury, that's also a new LRD. But I'm not convinced of the identification.

I've spent the afternoon sorting some Quorn. Here's the best of what I found:

SC4, JU 25 88 (new ERD)

Image

SC5, SE 14 91 (new LRD)
Image

SC7, JA 23 95 (new ERD)
Image

SC8, AP 1 12 (new LRD)

Only one goodie from Rundle Street. A new LRD for SC3, JA 31 08. This one closes most of the gap between the LRD of SC3 and the ERD of SC4.

Saddleworth SC3, new ERD, DE 22 06. Moves the ERD of SC3 much closer to the SE 22 LRD of SC2. Yes, it is a terribly smudgy cancel. But the wide top to the A in Saddleworth identifies it as SC3, not SC2.

St Peters SC3, new LRD (AP 17 00).

Or, conceivably, SC4, new ERD. But I'm 95% sure is it SC3.

Oh, and I have a couple of Saints Stations SCs with index #1. Dates are both in the 1880s. Need images or don't care with index numbers?
