Another four

This Mitcham cancel looks to be LDL but it only lists MDL & SDL so since it's not MDL it must be SDL

If it's SDL - Then this is ERD 2/2/1965

Put together another four, still can't find my glassine envelope which is full of changes :(

This one of Sherlock is perhaps speculation, but I can see ink which looks like the top of a 2 which is on and a bit outside of the sideways 5 on the stamp..
Also this stamp was issued on 16/10/1972, so it fits, up to you Neville..

Hi again fellas, I do realize that a few of my above posts are repeats.. I failed to slot them away into the correct "sorted album" before they eventually get their permanent home in my new SA Postmark Album; I'll try do not repeat any again..

Today whilst searching for a bit of info I came across this Keppoch strike which I think you all should be aware of :D

Keppoch Commonwealth Type CDS postmark on 3d Green QEII issue, on piece. A clear complete strike, with the faint date enhanced with ink, presumably by the postmaster. The P.S. of S.A. publication records as no marking known.

Image

And it sold for $500.00

Here's the link https://www.philatelics.com.au/my_catalogue.php?sort=AUSTRALI ... RY&aid=143

Over to Neville now to give us a "Type"

Hi, this is a new type of South Australia framed cancel that turned up in a kiloware lot recently. It has been identified as 'Wandearah'. It is probably a new type, as the SASG trio state that there is no marking known for the office.

Cheers,

Does anyone know what this postmark might be? It ends in Waters and has S.A at the base. PPA doesn't show anything in South Australia that ends in Waters. The first Letter seems to be a C or O so I thought it might be Charlotte Waters, but that seems to have only NT at the base.

Hi eharper, that postmark is of Charlotte Waters..

Many of the old NT postmarks have SA at the base..

Charlotte Waters ~ Type F1 ~ 23mm ~ Known usage = 1878 to 27/2/1911 ~ Rated R (25 - 50 considered to exist)

A couple of updates, first one I don't own (yet)

Tanunda ~ Type UF4a ~ New LRD - 6/11/1875

Pic is a bit fuzzy, taken from a full page of stamps..

Secondly, I first thought the date was 1903 when I bought it, but closer observation now sees it as 1907..

Hello,

I found this KGV head in a small lot. I had a look at ppa and I think the pmk should be KANNI dated 12 MR 1925. according to ppa this post office was only open for two years. Das it have a rarity rating? Any help would be great!

Hi Josto, I reckon you're right and it's Kanni

There is no known marking, until now.. So considering Neville agrees that it is indeed Kanni then it would have a 5R rating...

The title of the SASG book is "The Hand-held Postmarks of South Australia and the Northern Territory" but this thread appeas to be limited to South Australian postmarks.

Is there a thread in relation to Nothern Territory postmarks?

The RAAF postmark below does not appear to have been recorded in the SASG book:

And for that matter Central Australia postmarks from the 1927-1931 period? Presumably these would be quite rare except maybe for Stuart, the contemporary name for Alice Springs.

Post by muttly2011 »

My maths indicates a diameter of approximately 24.5 mm for the Dulkaninna postmark.

The centre of the circle can be found at the intersection of two perpendicular chord bisectors. The bisectors are the yellow lines below.

A radius can then be drawn from the centre to any point on the cuircumference. This is the upper red line on the image below.

A line can be drawn between two reference points on the stamp. I drew a (lower) red line from the tip of the S in South to the top of the last A in Australia.

The ratio between the lower red line and the radius on my monitor was 67/61= 1.1 (to 1 decimal place).

The measured distance between the tip of the S and the top of the A on one of these stamps was 13.5 mm.

So the actual radius of the circle is 13.5/1.1 = 12.27 mm

The estimated diameter is 12.27 x 2 = 24.54 mm.

In case of variation between 'South Australia' on the Dulkaninna stamp and my example of this issue, the actual distance between the tip of the S and top of the A could be measured on the Dulkaninna stamp then divide it by 1.1 and multiply by 2 to find the diameter.

Re: Sth Australia stamp cancellations. Updates to SASG Book trio

Post by josto »

Hello,

I`ve got a question about this South Australia postmark. It is a postmark "Sevenhills" South Australia dated 17 SE 15. I`m a bit confused about the information given on ppa about Sevenhills. I found the following information:

sa Sevenhill (1) PO 29/9/1858; closed c.1869.
sa Sevenhill (2) PO c.1870; renamed Sevenhills c.1925.
sa Sevenhill (3) Renamed from Sevenhills PO c.1925; closed 31/3/1976.
sa Sevenhills Renamed from Sevenhill c.1925.

Doesn`t it mean the postmark dated 1915 should be Sevenhill without the "S"!? Would be great if someone of the South Australia specialists could help me with this question!? Is this postmark rated somehow?

Thank you very much!

Greetings

Josto

Forgive me if this is not the correct place to ask my question.

I have two covers from Australia. Both are marked with reference to "Perth Mail Centre". Is this common? Why was there a need for this when there is a postmark (usually, anyway)? Thank you.

Perth is a long way from South Australia. There might be a better topic on this board to pose this question.
