Well that's good news for me, sorry about that Greg

Could you or someone please explain to me the significance of the "Archival" dates and basically Archival entries in general.. Is your cancel 28/1/1936, or is it the Archival date ? I posted a Backstamp on page 1 (Warradale) and have not had an answer, and that was classified as "Archival", so I am a bit confused as its meaning..

So to add to my own confusion  If my Backstamp is classified as Archival and I have one, doesn't that mean that it isn't Archival at all and it's actually 5R ??

Hi

Archival - only known from Government records - i.e. not in the public domain.

W13 WARRADALE C6T Index 2 23-10-1979 5R

Most C6T with index 2 initially were used to backstamp regd covers.
When people start to check the backs of there covers more dates will be found.

Hi all,

Time to stick my oar in again,

I think you'll find that 19 is the century not an index number. Union Town is in the Northern Territory and Northern Territory post offices had a habit of putting the century figure above the date line and the year below the date line. A nice LRD though and on the De La Rue Three Pence too!

Hi Neville

based on the date this PT ADELAIDE should be SC5 - the only problem is there is no dash or dot under the T at all. The cancel is very clear which makes this absence strange - not just worn out

Your expert comments would be greatly appreciated as usual

cheers

Now that the dust has settled over the publishing of the trio of books, how about some reviews in journals that any Stampboarders have access to.

"Stamp News", The Informer, Philately From Australia, and any others.

There has been plenty of favourable comment in this forum and the Study Group appreciates this, but the more publicity the better.

Thanks to you all for your continued input and comments.

We are in Adelaide until Monday afternoon Tony. I am sure there will be several new orders for the books. My secret overseas shipping method at very low cost has worked well so far!

Not sure if there are any meetings, rostering etc on over weekend at SAPhil House etc, where I think they are stored, but if there is and I might be able to impose on someone's help in getting another box dropped off at Mum's at Marion, it will save a great deal of postage and packing your end!

Please email me if that might be able to be arranged.

I won't be doing that because of copyright issues, but if you belong to a stamp club, of even source your local library, I'm sure you could get access to books.

There are none as long as source attributed. That is how stampboards works - fair non-profit use for research.

Pres above is one of the authors. :)

Unless you post all 1000 pages up, the publishers will be delighted for other folks to see sample pages, I am sure.

I'm back, just found another which if I'm right will blow the LRD out by a "country mile"

I believe this to be Thebarton ~ Type F1-1 (1883 - 30/5/1888)

My date is 20/5/90

Glen, if you are going to be in Adelaide for this weekend, Para Hills PS meets on Sunday night 8 pm Para Hills Community Centre, adjacent to the Para Hills Library alongside Woolworths, Wilkinson Road, Para Hills.

Presentation by me on overprints and underprints.

You can ring me on 8256 1645 if you want more details.

What do you make of this one fellas ?

It appears to be Narracoorte ~ Type F1-2 ~ (4/9/1878 - 23/12/1891) But my date is 26 months earlier..

The frame has not worn away as in Type F1-1 (16/10/1872 - 3/4/1884) and my figures are about 3mm whereas in F1-1 they appear to be 4mm..

My date is 21/7/1876

I'm back and a bit excited this time, I have found what I believe to be an unrecorded cancel of Queens Own Town (19/6/1869)

Image

Now retroReveal, as there is a faint (double strike) cancel on the stamp as well..
Image
Image
Now if you have doubts, this one I can clearly see the "Own", just above the date and running into the "ow" in Town..

Queens Own Town is a historical name and is just out of the town of Finniss, not far from Goolwa or Milang..

Here's another for the experts, what do I have here ?

Port Adelaide (27/3/1865)
It is either UF4a-1 ~ with a new index of 2 ?
Or UF4a-2 ~ with a 2 index which isn't sideways ?

And could I please have an answer to all my above posts, so I can adjust my information accordingly, thanks..

Here's another I need some varification on..

I cannot work out if it is C6T or C6..

And I am confused about "LDL" & "MDL" as I am far from an "expert" in this terminology.. Then throw in LLLLss after MDL and I am totally lost
I know what SDL ,MDL & LDL stand for but without further information, visual is good, I cannot quite grasp the exact meaning ; are we talking height or length ?..And or the fact that some date lines include the time ?..

Here is one from Woomera West ~ I think it is C6T with an ERD, being 11/9/1949, but I'm probably wrong :?

As far as I can figure out LDL and SDL mean Large Date Line and Small. Large and Small mean height and length. Visually quite distinct.

MDL Means mixed dateline. No idea what that looks like. and LLLL, I have no idea.

If there is a T in the ID then that means time on the dateline.

the LLLL and ss indicate where the mix comes for instance sssLL means the time is small and date large etc if you look at some of the samples the scans make it clear

Thanks for that, but I am still confused because my dateline has 9 figures, including the time.. Exclude the time and I have 6, then it's possibly LLLLss, if that is what you mean..

Also if it is C6T, then it is a new ERD, is it not ?

It appears that it is based on the 6 features of the date so for instance if you look at Athelstone C10T the MDL is pictured and all is small except the year hence ssssLL or same town the C4 where only the first number of the year is small hence LLLLsL. And then there's the classic American River C10T which had 3 different variations!!

Yes definitely a C6T but I don't have my catalogue handy so will leave it to Neville to confirm ERD

cheers

cheers
