It is possible as the term Corona Virus refers to many known pathogens which share similar shapes.

Look for stamps themed with microscopy or virology.

Any government agency that's using valuable resources to produce a stamp when the public's welfare is at stake shouldn't....

What a useless thread to begin at this time!!!!

I think some agencies issued ebola-themed stamps for some African countries, so I think it's safe to say that similar stamps relating to COVID-19 will be issued in the future.

I don't know whether the ebola stamps were issued during or after the outbreak, and I don't know what exactly they commemorate but I think it was something along the lines of "fight against ebola".

Thank You bazza4338!

It may have been issued to combat AIDS but the pathogen depicted is without question one of the many Corona viri.

As it has a striking and interesting shape there may be other cases where it has been depicted.

Note that this is NOT the new “Novel” Corona virus COVID-19, but that is what it looks like.

You may disagree but the question is valid as many commercial stamp agencies usually issue stamps within days of an event (They indeed issued some very quickly for the Zika virus as shown above), no need to be rude... I never said that governments should issue a covid-19 stamp, I am simply asking a question since many of these commercial stamp agencies often have questionnable ethics...

Footage broadcast Tuesday on Iranian state news network IRIB showed President Hassan Rouhani unveiling the stamp, emblazoned with a male doctor in blue scrubs and a facemask alongside a woman.

Hate to break it to you, but a great many postal operators around the world are no longer government departments, and haven't been for years. But I do share your sentiments about bigger priorities right now.

Aside from that, I am slightly surprised that Stamperijia don't appear to have released anything (yet). They're not known for subtlety

There's a long history of health-related issues.

The propaganda value of a "fight malaria" or TB or whatever was recognised by many countries 60 years ago. A "quick win" to promote the fight against the virus, to advise people to self-isolate or to recognise the courage of health professionals would be very worthwhile. Even a "charity" issue to raise funds to support those worst affected by the pandemic.

Cheap, easy propaganda that would spread around the world quicker than the virus

Of course, in 2020 less people use stamps but they are still very popular in many developing countries.

Coronavirus kept Stamperija from attending NZ2020, so who knows what will happen. No doubt some Portuguese or French speaking republique in Africa will have some stamps about Coved - 19 issued by Stamperija.

They did several Zika sheets, one which showed a grinning baby with a small Zika head!

They have issued stamps of Japanese porn stars for some African banana republic - who knows what they are capable of.

Iran’s coronavirus stamp salutes medical workers

Mar 18, 2020, 4 PM

By Denise McCarty

Iran has unveiled a postage stamp honoring medical professionals as frontline fighters of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in that country.

The unveiling was announced Wednesday, March 17, on an Iranian government website. Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani unveiled the stamp as part of a cabinet meeting.

To the best of Linn’s knowledge, this is the first postage stamp in the world related to this coronavirus pandemic.

The new stamp from Iran is inscribed “National Heroes” in English on the lower left of the main design.

The design of this 18,000-rial commemorative shows four people and includes symbolic images based on electron micrographs of the coronavirus.

Three of the four people depicted on the stamp appear to be medical professionals wearing face masks. The fourth person, just to the right of the English inscription, appears to be a soldier wearing a gas mask.

On March 3, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, announced plans to mobilize 300,000 troops to help combat the coronavirus outbreak.

According to information on the website of the National Iranian Postal Company, the new stamp salutes “the sacrifices of the country’s medical staff as front-line efforts to fight the coronavirus.”

The website of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran reported on March 18 that the number of people in Iran infected with COVID-19 was 17,361. It also reported 1,135 deaths and 5,710 recovered and discharged from the hospital.

It's common that many world maps published in magazines and articles in foreign countries leave New Zealand off the map as the Mercator Projection based on Greenwich has New Zealand at the far extremes of the right, hence it gets lopped off.

We can perhaps leave Sri Lanka off the map next time we print a stamp showing the planet's map, as revenge!

Actually, I am now collecting Ceylon, so I'd prefer we DON'T do this!

This is COVID-19 related postal material

Ireland Post is delivering 2 postcards to home for writing to loved ones and collect these from home after these are written for onward transmission https://www.anpost.com/Post-Parcels/Sending/Come-Together-Write-Now
Image
Courtesy : WhatsApp Philately
An Post has launched a new “Come Together. Write Now” campaign encouraging communities to stay in touch with letters, postcards and packages during this unprecedented period of social distancing and isolation. An Post delivers nationwide, from the busiest cities right through to the most remote rural address and this is a great opportunity to stay in touch and keep spirits up while those we love are cooped up at home.

Social distancing is strange for Irish people: we’re used to warm embraces; cheering side by side at matches; striking up conversations with strangers in the pub and welcoming friends into our home.

Right now it feels like normality has been put on pause and we’re surrounded by uncertainty. But what’s never been more certain is the power of connection. Which is why we are out postcards to every house in Ireland to help you reconnect with family, friends, loved ones.

Which countries have issued Corona / COVID-19 related stamps

Post by jduester »

Natural disasters, pandemics, etc have, in the past, been quickly followed by stamp issues. This includes charity stamps to raise money, or stamps to create awareness. There should be, several months after the corona outbreak, quite a number of stamps already which highlight the corona virus and the measures to prevent its spread. Especially since postal services have become so much more important in times of social distancing and staying at home! My postman is, in fact, the only person who still visits me on a daily basis :)

Could you please report any Corona-related stamp issues or Corona-related special cancellations here?

I would love to see them and start a new thematic collection.

Cheers
Joachim

It will not be a surprise when Stamperija donates 0% to charity...

Solidarity stamp: proceeds will go to people who need help now

Swiss Post is sending its own signal of solidarity and trust – with the “COVID-19 Solidarity” stamp. The stamp's motif reflects the unique solidarity we are experiencing in these days and weeks in Switzerland. The stamp itself also makes a tangible contribution to such mutual support: all proceeds will go to people who urgently need help now. The money will be split between Swiss Solidarity and the Swiss Red Cross.

Thousands of Swiss Post staff are working night and day to maintain essential services for people and companies. They are helping to keep Switzerland together – even in these extraordinary times. We are experiencing the same thing in many areas of our daily lives: healthcare staff, truck drivers, bus drivers, retail workers, military personnel, farmers – they are all doing incredible work for us. The levels of solidarity we are seeing in Switzerland are enormous and unique.

Swiss Post aims to pay tribute to this mutual support with the “COVID-19 Solidarity” stamp. The stamp will serve as a reminder of such assistance long after this difficult time is over. But it is also a tangible example of solidarity, providing support for people in Switzerland who need immediate help.

Proceeds to go to people who need help urgently

The individual stamps cost 5 francs and are available as a 10-stamp sheet for 50 francs. Those 50 francs will go to people who are in urgent need of assistance due to the coronavirus pandemic. All proceeds will be split fifty-fifty between Swiss Solidarity and the Swiss Red Cross. Swiss Post is also covering the actual face value of the one-franc stamp. In other words: the purchaser donates 50 francs to Swiss Solidarity and the Swiss Red Cross, and in return Swiss Post gives them 10 stamps.

A motif for solidarity – joining forces, yet keeping our distance – to defeat the virus

The stamp is a visual symbol of solidarity during the coronavirus epidemic. With Switzerland at the center, the rotated cross reveals a shining globe. Solidarity and social cohesion are core values at the moment. We can combat the virus by joining forces, yet keeping our distance. The motif was designed in just six days. Several graphic artists designed the stamp from their home offices – joining forces, yet keeping their distance.

The “COVID-19 Solidarity” stamps can be ordered immediately as a sheet of 10 stamps for 50 francs at postshop.ch or via the telephone number: 0848 66 55 44.
These appear to be 1SFr + 5 SFr = 6 franc stamps, rather than 5, but:

the purchaser donates 50 francs to Swiss Solidarity and the Swiss Red Cross, and in return Swiss Post gives them 10 stamps.

It will be interesting to see how they are listed in the catalogues!

Noted by Chinese and chinese-speaking collectors on Twitter and on Philatelic Pursuits blog, China Post postponed this issue because it seems some symbols could be ill-perceived by the public:
- the landscape of Wuhan whose inhabitants could find offensive and discriminatory,
- the red symbol "The people fight together" is cut in two by the perforation.

Are the stamps only available in sheetlets of 10? I'm confused too about the price of the stamp. Perhaps Swiss Post is making an exception and just charging people 50Fr for the sheet and donating the entire 50Fr? Did the Swiss Post Office do what Australia Post did and just make a lump sum donation, and this is their effort to offset the costs?

As you say it will be interesting to see how catalogues list these.
