Free internet philatelic resources

Post by kuikka »

I have already started a thread on FREE internet catalogues (http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=60568) and promised to start a sister thread on other philatelic resources if my first thread is received well. It has been received extremely well, so here is the other thread of other philatelic resources. I start this thread to make that information more easily available and hopefully adding some new content into this board. In this thread goes all other philatelic information except stamp catalogues and closely related material, which goes to the first thread.

PLEASE keep this thread clean of any comments. The comments can be posted on discussion thread related to this one (http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=60639). I welcome any comments there.

To make this thread easier to use I want to have some rules. As long as you follow them I welcome everyone's input to this thread.

The content posted here can be webpage (online resource), ebook, pdf etc.

1) This thread contains only material that doesn't violate copyrights. Either their copyright has expired or they are distributed by their copyright owner.

2) Only one item per post. No vague links to the collection of great material but direct link to specific book or similar item.

Exception, if you post here a journal (or similar item), you can post the index page of that journal, so you do not need to post a separate link to each issue. However, if possible, have the index page containing only one journal (can be done easily if it is your own search result from a library database etc. but impossible, if it is someone's static web page).

3) Add here any other philatelic material except stamp catalogues, stamp lists or specialized handbooks that describe stamp variants deeper than catalogues (these go to my first thread http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=60568). Examples of the material that belongs to this thread are postal regulations and history, old maps and general philatelic handbooks. General material is welcomed here. Also any catalogues or listings of cancels belong to this thread.

4) Use the same format for the posts:
First paragraph: The country or area and the year of publishing. (If the year of publishing is not clear, feel free to make a guess.
Second paragraph: The title and years covered if applicable.
Third paragraph: Link to the resource.
Fourth paragraph: More specific information of the content and its usefulness if you feel it is needed.
Fifth paragraph: Please indicate language of the resource if not English and add any other comments you want to make.

When we follow these rules it is easy to browse the potentially long list of entries and find what you want.

Kimmo

Introduction and explanation of symbols of Michel catalogues in English. Valid for any Michel catalogue.

The symbols apparently are the same at least from 1970 onwards. Based on my 1970 Deutschland Spezial-Katalog. My 1940 Michel has some changes, but uses still mostly the same symbols.
