If folks advise them they are reperfs and they do nothing about it, advise the PTS. Indeed tell them PTS will hear about it if they are not removed.

They will flay them with a whip and possibly expel them .. listing it on ebay does not absolve them from accurate descriptions.

This is currently on Ebay. It's listed by an apparently reputable company so I'm reluctant to post the link as I have got these wrong before. But when I look at the right side in particular I am thinking it's been reperfed. What does the jury think?

Collectors crack me up - jumping at shadows re being ''maybe re-perforated at right''.

WRONG.

Crudely re-perforated at top that surely anyone can see, and probably a little at base - RIGHT. And sellers of such stuff SHOULD be named here.

Here is an untampered one I just scanned for stock at $85 - absolutely superb fresh used, at far less than the current PO year book costs! -

It is ebay -- clueless and/or deceptive seller does not mention the HUGE and ugly thin at any point, and Dopey Bunnies were falling over themselves to bid on it to $100s.

Don't ANY of these dopes LOOK at the images? :?: :?: :?:

Heaven Forbid - it is rare enough to find an ebay Amateur seller that DOES offer a scan of the reverse - and they leave it to bidders to spot the huge thins!

Here's one I almost bid on a short time back. I'm not saying it is deliberate if dodgy, but I decided not to bid after I looked at the perforations into the margin. This is where the CV hinges.

In the Gibbons' specialised kings you have two prices for this control.

K17 Perf Type 2, CV £20.00 - which is not perforated into the margin.

K17 Perf Type 2A, CV £1200.00 - which is perforated into the margin.

My feeling was that the perfs in the margin look wonky, what say others ?

Rog - well worth raising that joke of a deceptive re-perf to raise cat value 1200 quiod.

ebay shonk jwe1704 is a perfect example of how the hobby is being ruined by these cons.

His blind nun with a blunt pin fake perforated that KGV the lines are not even remotely straight - yet jwe1704 described it as the rare version and quoted the '£1200 cat' in heading, and the ebay bunnies took the bait - as always.

On a quick look at his offerings it appears obvious jwe1704 offers a lot of reperfs. This current offering 'Buy It Now' at 130 quid is clearly re-perforated top and left, and probably cleaned.
Image
This horribly defective 5/- ugly DOGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG is offered as "Good Used" at 120 quid - chopped off perfs top AND bottom notwithstanding.
Image
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SG134-5-Rose-Plate-4-Anchor-W-M-GU-548/392154986344

"Sought after stamp with no hidden faws" - gee that 3mm tear at right is not "hidden" I guess, in Ebay Double Speak?

Do ANY of the ebay Bunnies ever leave negative feedback for spivs like this - of COURSE NOT - he has a perfect 100% seller rating -

Yes, I almost went for the bid, but I've learnt enough from members of the forum here that you really have to pay attention to details. I have learnt what I now know about reperfs from this site and that's what saved me wasting my money in this case.

I've been collecting for a long time and I hope other people learn from all the valuable info posted here. If it seems to good to be true then it probably is.

It does look like a 'theme' with jwe1704 and some creative interpretation of a stamp's condition!

These spivs should ALWAYS be named and shamed folks - it was Sandafayre Auctions offering this appalling reperf top and base.

And deceptively calling this dog 'Very Fine Used' with no other comment -

AUSTRALIA - 1931-36 10s grey and pink Kangaroo, SG 136, very fine used.

This one crossed my desk today:

An imperforated stamp fully perforated to get a more valuable stamp.

Not actually reperforated - because it never had perfs but....

I thought you'd like that one.

Here's another I don't like the look of. Seems to be a "tall" stamp, created by a perf skip at base, where someone has added a single extra perf hole at the base of each side.

Presumably to distinguish the stamp from something which is totally fake, rather than being a genuine stamp which has been tampered with.

In a bitter twist of irony, here is a listing where the reperf is actually the only bit that looks kosher on the stamp .....
eBay seller stamps-u-like, 6,000 feedback, 100% positive.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153613550931

Its an SG 121, GB Victoria Two Shilling Brown, listed as a reperf ..... starting at £375 (plus carriage).

Image

Shows front (but no back)

Image

Now, some looking at it might be thinking "nice colour", but its a FAKE.

Lets put it alongside a real one ....

Image

For those having difficulty seeing some clues, here are a few ....

Image
We have:
1) Badly formed S (top and bottom)
2) Left lower triangle device "deformed"
3) "Plate 1" top serif largely missing
4) The spacing line that runs round the perimeter is far too narrow.
5) The engraving has been "intensified", and this has affected the surrounding oval, which should be solid.

I put it here because of the anomaly on perforations...... The three sides that are "supposedly" original are all the wrong perf, and only the reperforated side has the correct gauge!

I have reported it (but, knowing eBay, will still watch how much it gets sold for in eight days time).

I'm hoping stamps-u-like withdraw it from sale, to maintain their 100% feedback.
(I've bought from them before, but this one seems to have slipped through the net).

The rule of certificates is that you state what a stamp is - not what it is not.
The "DATA" line shows what the identification of the stamp is and in this case
it states it is a USA Scott #409 (an imperfortated stamp of little value). The
"comment section" then gives what ever added information and in this case
states that it has faked perforations.

This is the format all major expertizing companies follow.

eBay did nothing, and it ended without being sold, and was re-listed.

So I wrote to stamps-u-like for comment, pointing out the evidence.

They immediately de-listed it "pending investigation", and kept me informed of what they found out (twice, by email), before listing it again, clearly marked as a FORGERY.... with both front and back scans.
Image
I'm not sure if it will sell at £275 BIN, due to the spots on the back, but I've seen this forgery sell anywhere between £170 (Grosvenor auction, inc prems) to being offered by a well known dealer for over £500 (don't know if it ever sold). This isn't a Sperati, although I've also seen it attributed to him.

I have no problem with forgeries being listed as forgeries.

Just wanted to complete the story, as Stamps-u-like took the right steps to maintain their unblemished record.

Good response by them.

I am positive that Stephen at eBay does not want to hear from hundreds of people but when I send a message..... The stamp is removed.

If you want to make contact with eBay to become an expert - drop me a line and I will make the contact. Be aware that he will be looking for expertizing experience (do you work for an expertizing company? Even being an on-staff expert with the APS or RPS is good) so.....

If you stay silent - this crap will continue.

What is really disappointing here as well is the fact that a piece of cultural heritage has been maliciously defaced.

Irrespective of the value involved, in principle it’s criminal.

eBay should be held accountable for aiding to facilitate this I believe, before we even get to the deception aspect.

How can the seller hide behind some stupid Id call sign etc?

Sellers of antiquities and collectibles etc. should be made to publish their name, address and passport photo for clear identification.

Everything in the auction appears as "Currently $xxx" where xxx is the estimate/start price, so it's not an indication of a bid. Why, I have no idea.

They've also identified an imperf pair of 1942 2½d red ex note printing branch thefts (CV A$475) as being SG 206a:

They think it's one of these:

I guess the easiest way to get this stamp is to make one yourself...probably out of an imperf 409.

You really have to wonder who would buy or try to sell this w/o a cert. Scott 423b if you're wondering what this guy thinks it is.

Second listing for this horror. Was previously listed at £400 but failed to sell, now listed at £350. A bargain for a Very Fine Used with CDS.

At first it just appears to be off centre, which is quite usual for this issue.

However closure inspection clearly shows reperfed both top and right sides.

At £350 is probably near the price for a not bad looking spacefiller but surely warrants a mention.

You ARE kidding right ?????????????????????

It has been badly re-perforated BADLY on THREE sides by a totally Blind Nun.

Ebay and their shonk sellers are destroying this hobby. ''Superb Very Fine Used'' my ASS.

I will sell you a nice untampered with cds example for around that price point. I'd offer this landfill for $A75 or 35 quid and PRAY some cretin liked it.

hicks9112010 is a yet another ebay con, for not mentioning this obvious butchery.

Report this cowboy to ebay please folks, to get this removed and save some stupid Bunny from wasting 350 quid. Ebay rules clearly say alterations and repairs on stamps must be disclosed.

This same cretin hicks9112010 has this THIRD grade stamp for a $A400 posted starting bid, and describes it as FINE USED. Real value one quarter that.

I'd gladly buy a superb one from you if you could at that price, in the UK set aside £700-£800 for VFU examples.

I'm still missing one from my collections but not prepared to put something like this reperfed horror in my collection.

Shame on gff211 for listing such an obvious shocker.

The Blind Nun was on holiday it seems, and her apprentice went crazy and re-perfed all FOUR sides.
