Full Sheet 1927 Parliament Perf "OS". Is this Forged?

Post by Serendipity »

The item shown below is listed on ebay through seller artau-0qii7. He/she gets a dishonorable mention in the Wide Ranging Stamp Discussion Corner thread but I have posted this here as it relates to ebay. As a collector of full sheets this seems, in my view, quite a remarkable item.

The ACSC mentions the OS perforated stamps were distributed to members of parliament and the total number perforated was only 18,800 so presumably sheets were distributed at the time.

I have seen the odd block of 4/6 appear from time to time on ebay but can't remember seeing anything larger anywhere else.

I am not very familiar with OS perforations but they appear very crisp for something from that era. I would be interested in any opinions or thought on this sheet's pedigree.

regards

Colin

If it comes from this seller you can be guaranteed it's fake.

Read this thread and it should help convince you. Don't touch it with a barge pole.

Jon

EDIT: I've just checked out their listings on eBay and I can see at a glance that the low resolution fuzzy pictures he has put up are copies from an auction catalogue. I doubt they even own the items up for sale. I suspect a request to see the back of any of these items will yield a blank.

The seller has been mentioned on the boards as being a scammer.

He finds a pic in an auction cat or online of some rare stamps and lists the picture on eBay, the winning bidder gets nothing and has to get a refund from paypal.

If anyone can find a pic/scan of the sheet (should be fairly distinctive with the annotation TRC) either online or in a catalogue, that will be a huge help.

Look for both OS and unpunctured - it's not difficult to pick up a sheet of normal Canberras.
John

Looking for used pre-decimal OS/NSW and G/NSW state perfins, and NWPI KGV overprints.

Like EVERYTHING this seller is offering - all fake, designed to separate trusting and clueless ebay Bunnies from their money.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1927-Parliament-House-Sheet-of-80-perforated-OS-MUH-/201529247854

ALL here should hit the Report Button for knowingly offering forged stamps without marking them thus.

On EVERY ebay lot there is a “Report Item” icon – whether the sale is ended or not.

Reporting that via the simple drop-down options is a 5 second operation -

If ebay gets 5 or 10 reports on any given items they WILL generally take notice. They usually warn the user and remove the lot. Sellers getting several such removed lots are in trouble.

Let’s use ‘people power’ to stop this material getting offered.

Everyone “hoping” others act, will get nothing done - like most things in life! It takes teamwork and a Community Spirit, and the dodgy and misleading lots will be FAR less.

FAR MORE USEFUL IS - ebay now have set up a fast new portal JUST to report suspected sellers at - http://www.tinyurl.com/ebayfakes - also found at - http://www.ebay.com/scw - there is space for 10,000 characters in your reply, so all the relevant info can be added.

Unlike most ebay complaint forms that allow just 100 characters etc.

Please take a moment to do BOTH ….. do the “Report Item” drop-down, and give a summary on the link above.

Most likely they will go to 2 different ebay staffers, and that is double trouble for the fakers.

Some staffers ignore such stuff, others are more pro-active – it is a lottery.

However several reports on any single item can be seen by all staffers looking at it, and that generally gets some action.

Even if 4 staffers have ignored it, the 5th staffer might see 5 reports and decide to act etc.

"People Power" - never under-estimate the value of it! 8)

Given this seller's poor reputation, I agree it is very likely to be a forgery. But I have a few singles of the OS perforated and have checked some sold blocks on ebay so there is nothing to my eye that appears out of place.

Now I suppose everything I have looked at might be forged because I don't know any better. The images on ebay are good quality/high resolution so do not appear to have come from a catalogue. Apart from the seller's reputation what else are we looking at? If this had been offered by someone else what would set off alarm bells?

If there are any experts on the OS perforations from around this era who might like to venture an opinion I am keen to understand what makes this item suspect.

So far this item has 9 bids/$107.50 with 30 hours to go so likely will go much higher in bidding.

Regards

Colin

Clueless ebay Bunny 'Bargain Hunters' that DESERVE to be ripped off. They have zero stamp knowledge and zero interest in searching low feedback sellers offering things 'too good to be true'.

A simple google search for artau-0qii7 will lead them right here.

Report this item and this seller, and stop asking naively if it "might be genuine". It is NOT. And you have been told that a half dozen times so far.

You probably won't find anything out of place with this one, it is probably a picture lifted from an auction catalogue.

It is generally accepted that there were never any 4d violet/purple KGV Heads issued/sold in Tasmania and finding one cancelled in Tasmania is one of the Holy Grailsof KGV collectors.

A 4d Violet KGV Head Perf T sold for a pittance tonight on scambay.

Sold of course by the Sydney Forger artau-0qii7.

Lot Number: 201529240118

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201529240118

Fortunately only the bunnies fell for it. You can't even see where the postmark is from.

I note from the thread quoted below, that Dr Geoff Kellow was able to find in the Post Office archives, information concerning the distribution of the issue of KGV new colours prior to 1 May 1924.
A new Aust KGV 1d green First Day Cover discovered?
Image

Has a similar search been done for such info regarding the release of the 4d violet in 1921? If such info came to hand it could well prove conclusively whether such stamps were distributed in Tasmania!

I did some research on Trove regarding newspapers advising the public of the new colour changes and although I could find several such notices in mainland states I could find none from Tasmania.

Even when the 4d colour was changed from violet to blue this was the only notice I could find from Tasmania.

Image

For overseas readers I should mention that King Island is far closer to Melbourne than to Hobart, Tasmania's capital city.

Also interesting is the notified change of colour for the ½d value. Ultimately this was changed to orange.

Wise one to save Brad. Hopefully it will save newer members from getting ripped off on ScamBay - where they have allowed this same spiv to open 100 accounts with impunity to rip off the dopey "Baahgin Hunta" Clueless Bunnies for Millions.

Brad, your Herculean effort in "saving" so many, many images from Photobucket, to Imgur, with the comment: "and saved forever", is applauded (how do you find time to visit the Genesis Planet)?. Most commendable.
