If seller ends it early not sure they have any mechanism to offer it to any specific under bidder?
The Greek has the email addresses of the private bidders. I think he just emails them, off ebay, and says the stamp is now available at the top bid of $260 etc. and he had to end the auction for some obtuse technical reason. Avoids paying ebay fees too.

Whether the bidder falls for this ruse is another matter. The best case scenario is that they have emailed him and said: "This is a forgery and I'm not completing the transaction" and he has pulled the lot. (He has done this before, and offered the forged stamp again months later).

In any case, it is people power at work  . He would not have pulled the lot if he was not feeling the heat.

Do you get the email address of real bidders if an auction does not complete?

I believe so, but someone may be able to clarify that. When the auction is set to private, the vendor can still see the bidder ID's on his dashboard and contact them through ebay.

It is difficult to know exactly what has gone down here.

Another possibility here is that the reports have been acted on and ebay queried the listing with The Greek ('why is the stamp not marked as 'replica''?). In the face of this, he has delisted the item with a false reason to avoid an ebay *drone strike* on his account.

And a PS. to the fake Tasmania listing - The Greek Forger's other listings as stamp_37 are still active, here:

Yet he has a screaming fake South Australia 1/- P.S. Departmental with a   wΦßbLy HÖɱƏ-măĎǝ ØvƎrҏRiЍt   still listed, link here:

As everyone using Ebay should know, these are cranked out on The Greek Forger's home inkjet computer yesterday - not in 1853 but 2019!

The Greek Forger must be desperate for money for Christmas!

This item is Worthless! It is not even a real stamp!

You can see his handiwork here - printed on a home computer. Fake numeral cancellation, which he has impressed lightly as some people are aware of this fraud. Fake modern paper, so bad that the modern black ink of the cancellation bleeds through to the back. Grime rubbed on the back to give it some age. Hinge added to the back to make it look like it came out of a Ye Olde album! Four large margins as that gets him good prices. Quite a dangerous forgery for newbies.

These Tasmanian imperf forgeries sadly can sell for hundreds of dollars $$ to those unware. Do not bid, they are worthless.

Sad attempted cover-up by The Greek Forger
The Greek Forger has pulled his forged Tasmania listing from ebay. This time with a twist! He has kept the listing intact but edited it last night on 16 Dec 2019 - replacing the Fake Tasmania 4d Orange with 4x WA swans used, and edited the description also. Ebay must charge fees if he pulls the entire listing!

The Greek Forger is trying to avoid ebay drone strikes on his account and obviously reads this thread. YOOHOO GREEK FORGER!!!

Note that the WA item number is the same as the forged Tasmania immediately above: 143472418317

The end date and time is also the same: 20 Dec 2019 20:53:20 AEDST

He has also altered the listing location to try and keep his ID a secret, from "Revesby, NSW" to the plain mangled "NWS".

Nice try Greek but the NSW and Federal Police know *where* to find you.

This laser-printed fake would fool A LOT of people. Do not be conned - it is a complete fake. Scanned from an original, the colour is quite close.

The tell-tale is the very modern paper, brite brilliant white on the reverse. The Greek Forger has tried to cover this with a hinge.

The GReek must be *desperate* for Christmas $$CASH$$ as he started it at $99 or Make an Offer. There were no bids this morning but some bunny has jumped in the last few hours and placed a bid. It is now up to $202.50, no doubt the Greek is shilling the bidder to high heaven.

This laser-printed fake would fool A LOT of people. Do not be conned - it is a complete fake. Scanned from an original, the colour is quite close.

This one is used - with a fake barred numeral "60" cancellation made by The Greek.

The GReek must be *desperate* for Christmas $$CASH$$. This stamp was listed late on Friday night 20/12/19 and was still listed up on Saturday morning with a start of $300 or BUY IT NOW $400.  It is now missing from stamps_lovers101's listings - It looks like some idiot has bought it for $400.

There is a very obvious tactic at work - list as a Buy It Now and rake in the cash straight away and the listing ends, hopefully no one will complain. Rather like a smash-n-grab jewellery robbery. We can expect a lot more of this over the coming days and the holiday period.

These pics are posted here for posterity. Hopefully, the buyer will realise their mistake and ask for an automatic Paypal refund!

Fake sold for $400 on 21 December 2019
You can see the Greek Forger's tactics at work. Create a fake stamp, worth zero, and then pull the auction before it ends and run away with the cash.

The Greek Forger has sold 2 FAKE x Tasmania 1d Blue, one used and one unused this Weekend for $400 each, $800 total.

$800 defrauded from the public in one day!!

Just imagine how much this guy is defrauding over one year!!

Here is the sorry bid history for posterity. You will see that he ended the auction a full 4 days early and took the $400 and ran! It started on 20 Dec 2019 and was *supposed* to run until 25 Dec 2019. It only took 1 real bidder to be run up by the Greek.

Everyone, follow Glen's advice below and report individual suspect items and the seller (stampcentre and antiquesunlimited111_1) of forged items.
Global Administrator wrote:Ebay have revamped the rules re forged and faked and replica and counterfeit stamps.

Sellers now MUST mark fakes indelibly on reverse, and load a photo of that marking into the lot description.

Alterations (that includes forged perfins, overprints and cancels) and repairs MUST be noted now if known to seller, and sellers offering conga lines of the same fakes clearly DO know!

https://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/currstamps.html#replica_stamps

Image
Image

Also on EVERY ebay lot there is a “Report Item” icon – whether the sale is ended or not.

Reporting that via the simple drop-down options as shown below is a 5 second operation -
Image
If ebay gets 5 or 10 reports on any given items they WILL generally take notice. They usually warn the user and remove the lot. Sellers getting several such removed lots are in trouble.

Let’s use ‘people power’ to stop this material getting offered.

Everyone “hoping” others act, will get nothing done - like most things in life! It takes teamwork and a Community Spirit, and the dodgy and misleading lots will be FAR less.

ebay now have set up a fast new portal JUST to report suspected sellers of forged stamps at - https://www.tinyurl.com/ebayfakes - also found at - https://www.ebay.com/scw - there is space for 10,000 characters in your reply, so all the relevant info can be added. Unlike most ebay complaint forms that allow just 100 characters etc.

Please take a moment to do BOTH ….. do the “Report Item” drop-down, and give a summary on the link above.

Most likely they will go to 2 different ebay staffers, and that is double trouble for the fakers.

Some staffers ignore such stuff, others are more pro-active – it is a lottery.

However several reports on any single item can be seen by all staffers looking at it, and that generally gets some action.

Even if 4 staffers have ignored it, the 5th staffer might see 5 reports and decide to act etc.

"People Power" - never under-estimate the value of it! 8)

MODERATOR COMMENT:

corpman,

Firstly this is getting very close to a personal attack, which is against board rules as you well know. Please stop with the "in your face" posts, and also use members correct names - deliberate mis-spelling of names is clearly intended as an insult, No more!

Secondly, your motive for posting such long posts attacking those who seek to question dubious listings must be open to question. Why do you spend such time and energy on this? If you don't like people trying to clean up dodgy dealers, surely the sensible thing to do would be simply to ignore those posts and move on without commenting. Yet instead you are in effect siding with the wrong 'uns by undermining honest efforts.

Please think carefully about what you post next on this thread!

I tend to agree that reporting items to eBay often seems to be an exercise in futility, I see the effort by MJ's pet as going beyond just reporting such fakes to eBay. I thought it also serves to educate noobs like me on such frauds.

Some of the posts are a wealth of resource, with tips on how to spot fakes/forgeries/reproductions and how to keep safe while navigating the various philatelic minefields.

And hopefully, members who are considering bidding on such items (or worse still, have already made a bid) are alerted and respond accordingly.

Well, if we can agree on one thing, let's agree that aiming abuse at each other does not help stop the forger.

Perhaps those who post who are knowledgeable about criminal law could advise why it appears no prosecution is in the offing?

As I understand it, the forger's name and address is known, there is ample proof of fraud, even if forgery is harder to prove.

It also seems likely that given the income he is scoring, that there would be mis-declaration on tax forms, which is generally of great interest to the IRD.

There's even the possibility of money laundering, so presumably his bank records could be demanded?

Does anyone actually know why little appears to be happening?

Well there is some food for thought in your post corpman, but there are also some other issues to address.

1
As I see it MJ's pet is attempting in many cases to prevent an auction from reaching finalization on the basis that it is far easier to not part with your money than to apply for a refund after the event.

To my mind anytime he has achieved that, the bunnies and the hobby benefits, and it disadvantages the forger/faker.

2
If, as you say, there has be a civil court action against the forger, then either his identity is known, or if he successfully defended that action using a false persona, the police would be very interested in that and would have or could access the specialist knowledge to deal with it.

3
You seem to be implying that the proceeds of the sales after transiting various temporary bank accounts have disappeared into thin air.

I put it to you that the money is either funding some sort of extravagant lifestyle, or it eventually arrives in traceable bank accounts.

I tend to discount the possibility that he has a very lumpy mattress from all the cash has stuffed under it.

4
In the same way as existence of child porn images on a computer can be taken as evidence of a crime, then I suspect high res single layer images of fraudulent postal cancellations such as the 60 on the Tasmanian stamp could also be taken as evidence.

A warrant followed by appropriate forensic examination of the forger's devices should provide much evidence not only of stamp faking but probably more importantly to the police identity fraud, failure to submit gst and tax accounts etc etc.

It might be remembered that it was the improper recording of finances that got Al Capone incarcerated, not his criminal activities in the street.

The Greek Forger's fake Tasmania 4d Orange - offered under the vendor alias antiquesunlimited111_1 closes later today.

Currently at $51, with 14 bids (7 supposedly unique bidders). You can see why he prefers to fake 1d Blues, but the 4d still earn good money.

MODERATOR COMMENT.

corpman has said his piece, several times, and in various forms. His message is quite clear.

MJ's pet can take from it whatever he wants, if anything.

From this point onwards, please keep to the topic of faked stamps, and NOT the merits or otherwise of bringing these fakes to the attention of the public/reporting them to ebay etc.
Always on the lookout for Australian pre decimal First Day Covers.

COMPLETELY FAKE 4d STAMP OFFERED ON EBAY BY FORGER antiquesunlimited111_1

As everyone using Ebay should know, these are cranked out on The Greek Forger's home inkjet computer yesterday - not in 1853 but 2019!

The Greek Forger must be desperate for money for Christmas!

The 4d Orange is Worthless! It is not even a real stamp! printed on a home computer with an equally fake postmark. The stamp is printed on modern photocopy paper and even has fake rust and toning!

You can see the Greek Forger's modus operandi over the last few days: mix up the vendor accounts, switch up the fake offerings - from 1d Blue to 4d Orange, then a 4d Orange with cut corners, end some auctions early etc.

These Tasmanian imperf forgeries sadly can sell for hundreds of dollars $$ to those unware. Do not bid, they are worthless.

I'd suggest all those reading this report all the lots offering fakes.

Ebay have revamped the rules re forged and faked and replica and counterfeit stamps.

Sellers now MUST mark fakes indelibly on reverse, and load a photo of that marking into the lot description.

Alterations (that includes outright fakes like the Tasmania, forged perfins, overprints and cancels) and repairs MUST be noted now if known to seller, and sellers offering conga lines of the same fakes clearly DO know!

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/currstamps.html#replica_stamps

(..)

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/currstamps.html#replica_stamps
This link now leads to coins/currency only. Stamps are no more mentioned.

I could not find something like "ebay collectible stamps policy" on their site.

It starts nicely with
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-ite ... ms?id=4207

Then we have
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-ite ... cy?id=4337

Which leads to "Collectible currency policy" only.

***

Update: thanks to friendly ebay communiy helper, the current link to stamps is now

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-ite ... ent=stamps

It says simply

"Counterfeit stamps can't be sold on eBay, while collectible and replica stamps must follow our policy."

Sounds great.

Are classic fakes, e.g. the tons of China/Japan/Korea 1890s reproductions, also "replica" or counterfeits?

Are modern photographic process fakes (like colour copier fakes) "replica" or counterfeits?

^ AFAIK the ebay policy concerning counterfeit, replica or reproductions stamps has not changed and ebay will still accept reports about them. The links seem to change all the time.

The is still a "report item" button at the base of each listing.

Crazy Greek Forger reoffers sold Lot
It will be noted from above that fake lot 303420379009 realised $22.38 on 1 Jan 2020. Vendor: antiquesunlimited111_1. There were supposedly 4 bidders.

Now only a few short days later on 2 or 3 Jan 2020, the same lot has been relisted by antiquesunlimited111_1 item number 303428316093 as a Buy It Now for $48. Link here:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tasmanian-Group-of-3-Early-Imper ... 3428316093

Either one of two things happened here:

Evidently the successful bidder refused to pay for their forgeries!   or the Greek was running up the genuine bidder and got stuck with the Lot!

^NO bids on the fake 4d Orange lot at Buy It Now $48.

^One idiot bid on the Fake 1d Blue lot starting at $14. Probably the Greek Gorger vendor himself. 8)

What is quite remarkable is that the Greek has had to drop the starting price on these fakes wwaaayyyy low to attract a bid and get the ball rolling. It shows, at least on some level, that the fake Greek message is getting through.

Update.

(1) Lot with Fake 4d Orange - still no takers at Buy It Now $48.

(2) Lot with Fake 1d Blue - still struggling badly with little interest at $14.61, only 2 bids, 1+ day to go.

(3) 6d Pictorial mint with fake OS Perfin - sold for $24.50 with 3 bids.*

*The genuine stamp is worth around $15 so this shows the industrial-level fakery The Greek Forger is involved in to make a measly $9.50 less fees.

The 4d Orange is Worthless! It is not even a real stamp! printed on a home computer with an equally fake postmark. The stamp is printed on modern photocopy paper! Wrong paper. Wrong colour. Wrong everything.

The Forger has added fake backing paper to make this look authentic. Heavy cancellations try to distract you from the modern photocopy. The cancellation is home-made and is not real. His latest touch is to sign the back to make you think this is some kind of old expert signature.

These Tasmanian imperf forgeries sadly can sell for $$hundreds$$ of dollars $$ to those unware. Do not bid, they are worthless = $0.00c.

You'd think he could afford a new fake canceller other than that "60" by now.

^ now with 1 solitary starting bid at $5 - probably placed by The Greek Forger himself. He must be getting nervous. All bidding is private, of course.
