^now with 2 measly bids at $6.50, and well over 2 days still to go. These are *very obviously* shill bids from the Vendor Forger stamps_lovers101  If this pair were genuine (which it isn't), ebayers would be all over it at the stupid start price of $5.

Maybe on some level the message is getting through. Time will tell. 8)

Another incarnation starcollectables has dragged out the OS hole-puncher for these delights:

The tap-dancing that the Greek Forger does between his alias accounts is really apparent right now on Saturday. Presently he has listed:

*stamplovers_101: 1 lot

*starcollectables: 191 lots

*stamp_37: 2 lots

*antiquesunlimited111_1: 418 lots

Total 612 lots

Please tell me if there is any other alias vendor account active and listing right now.

Fake 4d Pair sold for $134.50
OK, so this totally fake rubbish 4d Orange pair (223866539891) sold on 26.1.2020 for $134.50.

There was a last-second shill bid from $122.50 > $134.50. This is still a paltry price for the genuine item with four margins. Pity it is totally fake!

Here is the sad bidding history for the record.

Hi ebay

Actually I'm unsure about this one. :? On the face of things, it looks like a genuine Plate 2 stamp in Orange with excellent margins but very lightly cancelled.

But it has only traces of a postmark that don't resemble a barred numeral obliterator. It is impossible to judge the paper and ink through the computer screen. Handling the stamps is important. Genuine stamps will have raised ink whereas a reproduction will sit flat. My concern is that this may be a reproduction that has been "postmarked" or cancelled to throw a buyer off. (I stress 'may'). It can be difficult to judge on a computer screen which makes online buying difficult.

Where you bought it and how much was paid is important. These should only be purchased from a reputable dealer or auction house. In the olden days one had to be concerned with buying a genuine stamp but had a very good unmentioned repair (margin added, rebacking etc.). Now full colour reproductions are becoming very dangerous. The other area of concern is catalogue cut-outs that have been rebacked. I would avoid ebay or similar sites. If this stamp comes from the online offering of a decent auction house (if so, do you have a link?) they would give you a suitable guarantee.

If you are a member of a club with an expert committee, a certificate for these issues is the way to go.

Low rez scan, but appears the stamp is genuine, from an early plate impression. Clarity of Impressions and colour varied enormously. This is near as deep a shade as these get, and are often very pale.

Appears to have a fake postmark covering a large repair that runs through not only head but between and north of ''N D''.

A UV light or fluid will reveal all.

If the cancel is fake, it appears to be rebacked, or more accurately falsely placed "on piece" to hide some kind of fault. You can see some non-stamp paper at the top.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

not sure where i purchased this stamp from or for how much.
it may have been in my uncles collection that i inherited ( he passed away about 15 years ago )

It doesn't seem re-backed to me but i'm clueless on these to be honest.

Whether its a fake or not it fills a space in my collection.

PS. MJ's pet i don't normally comment on this thread but i've spent quit a bit of time here and keep coming back to check on these fakes you keep finding on ebay ( i've also spent time reporting them as well )

I've been trying to learn from it but to be honest these courier stamps seem at times impossible to distinguish the fakes from genuine ones. ( for me anyway )

But as i say, it'll stay in my collection for what it is.

Keep up the good work and thanks again for the replies everyone.

Definitely not re backed, but as I stated even seeing only the front, there is a big repair between N and D region and north of that too -- clearly paper infill etc has occurred there - do NOT ever soak it is my strong advice!

Hi ebay

Thanks for posting your stamp. It is totally genuine so don't worry. I agree there seems to be a surface scuff or infill between "VAN D". The paper there looks too white and the postmark is trying to disguise it.

Despite the fault, your stamp is still pleasing to the eye so enjoy it.

PS. Thank you for reporting the ebay fakes. People power works!

THE SCAM CONTINUES

Another very BAD FAKE Tasmanian 1853 1d Blue from the Greek Forger under his old alias "antiquesunlimited111_1".

ebay item number: 303475319788
seller: antiquesunlimited111_1
start: 6 Feb 2020
closes: 11 Feb, 2020 20:02:28 AEDST

COMPLETELY FAKE 1d Blue OFFERED ON EBAY BY FORGER
antiquesunlimited111_1

As everyone using Ebay should know, these are cranked out on The Greek Forger's home inkjet computer yesterday - not in 1853 or 1855 but 2020!

This item is Worthless! It is not even a real stamp!

The Greek Forger has been laying low on these fake 1d Blues over Christmas but be cannot resist the money that these fakes earn!

You can see his handiwork here - printed on a home computer. Fake "60" numeral cancellation, which has tell-tale signs of fakery, easily spotted. Fake modern paper. Blue ink totally wrong and fake. Grime rubbed on the front and back to give it some age. Fake toning. Modern postmark ink bleeds through to the back. Made with four large margins as that gets him good prices. Quite a dangerous forgery for new collectors who have not seen an original.

The rampant Greek Forger lives Sydney, NSW as we all know.

He constantly flips between his many, many ebay accounts, trying not to get caught like some mad Greek tap-dancer. Right now he is offering his fakes on two different accounts simultaneously: stampcentre and antiquesunlimited111_1

These Tasmanian imperf forgeries sadly can sell for hundreds of dollars $$ to those unware. He has cranked out DOZENS of these fake 1d Blues over the past few years. All identical    Do not bid, they are worthless.

One idiot has already bid. That is all he needs and you will get shilled to high heaven.

You will never, repeat never, be able to sell these fakes to a real dealer or auction. If you are the unlucky buyer, ask for a refund through Paypal. If you are a current bidder, cancel your bid.

This stamp violates Ebay's rules as it it an UNMARKED REPLICA.

Part of the problem is that some people look at ebay on their phones, so they are squinting at mini-sized photographs, makes fakes look good.

NOT MARKED "REPLICA" ON THE BACK

The Greek Forger has hit a new low with his latest listing:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TASMANIA-1855-57-Van-Diemens-Lan ... 3471512377

He is now selling   reproductions   freely on ebay, but the fakes are not marked on the back with the words "replica" etc. in violation of ebay rules.

One peanut has even bought a set of this trash in the last 24 hours.

These are the very same as his fake used imperfs, but without the fake "60" cancellation applied. How clueless can some people be.

I notice he found some big old-time hinges to put on the back of his Tasmania reproductions, to give the idea they are from some old collection and not his laser printer. He's clever, in his own way...

Exactly. This is quite sophisticated fakery. He also rubs grime on the front and back to "age" the paper. Then there is the fake toning ...

Why the Australian Philatelic Federation (APF) - who have a "Forgeries Commission"! - and the Australian Philatelic Traders Association (APTA) - who are consumer and trade representatives - have not made a detailed complaint to the NSW Police and the Australian Federal Police is a mystery. This fraud runs into the $$ hundreds of thousands $$, if not $$ millions $$. It has been going on for years.

We know the answer in the case of the APF - they are permanently on holiday.

Fake Beer Duties not marked "Replica" = Ebay Violation

He's also just making stuff up now! I see a few "essay" type items, all with hinges to attempt to give them "old collection" provenance.

^ Yes. He is doing colour repros and fake essays for other Colonies and States as well.

I can't understand why anyone would pay $25+ for something run off on a photocopier and has $0 resale value. :o :o

I'm not so sure its having much (long term) effect at all.

It's just over a year since you first started your crusade against antiquesunlimited, and what's been achieved?

Is he still in business : Yes
How many current listings : 428
% good feedback : 100%

You note in your last post that he is still achieving "unbelievable" results.

So whilst filling out an eBay report may make you feel better, ...
"its had very little impact on his business model, if at all".

Probably time to change tack .... What remedies / escalations are there, in Australia, "where you know a fraud is being committed"?

Could it be a police matter, a trading standards (in the UK) matter, or a social media campaign "naming and shaming"?

"Stamping in each puddle isn't going to stop the flood".

On current outlook, he is "winning the war" by a considerable margin.

Thoughts?

The problem is eBay don't care.

If you paying for anything worth more than $50 watch out.

Personally I think eBay is good for pool consumables and other every day items.

Definitely not items such as antiques, art, valuable collectibles etc... Caveat Emptor!

ViccyVFU's comments are sensible as always. I do feel like the little boy sticking my finger in the dyke.

On one level, the public education campaign has had some success. Before, his fake 1d Blue's would sell for $400-500. Then they started to fall below $100.

While regular ebayers have become educated about the Greek Forger, the problem is that every day there is a new newbie/bunny. It only takes 1 legitimate uninformed bidder to be shilled by the Greek.

People here are probably bored with reporting. But Stampboards had success years ago and had The Greek accounts scrubbed from ebay. After a while he came back of course - it was too lucrative. Why can he not be scrubbed again??

People here might be bored with the whole issue and think it does not affect them. The chickens will come home to roost in coming years when these many ebayers take their collections to dealers/auction for resale only to find out they have spent hundreds/thousands on total fakes.

Some people may think that only a paying customer can complain to the police. Not so. The police will take a detailed complaint from a representative organisation (APF, APTA) if backed by hard detail such as listing numbers, screen caps and amounts. The police will not investigate a $500 online fraud, but they will investigate a million dollar one. While we are only dealing with images from computer screens, such organisations can supply an expert witness to testify (if necessary) that these stamps are obvious fakes. Certain APTA dealers know his exact identity for goodness sakes. This fellow is not some anonymous Nigerian wanting to be your husband, soliciting your life savings by email or Skype for a desperately-needed operation, never to be heard of again. He is sitting at home in Sydney cranking these things out. People look for excuses not to complain.

The Greeks crimes go way beyond forgery. Far more serious are his identity frauds > phones, bank accounts etc. in false names. That is what the Federal Police will be interested in. Stamp Forgery is the sideshow.

They even got Al Capone. For tax evasion.

Its not that I'm against the cause, its just that "after a year" of your campaign, this is what his eBay scorecard says ....
Image
.... and the bit that riles is "One of eBay's most reputable sellers".

After your filings alone (although, I assume there have been others :D ), how can they say that?

Are they saying "he may be useless, but no more so, than the rest of them"?

Maybe its time to take the fight to eBay, via public media, with specific examples?

I'd like eBay to change their policy, so that either "a tally was displayed, on the bidding screen", showing how many time the item had been reported (and how many of them had been processed and dismissed by eBay).... or, at the point you won the deal, they had to disclose that data to you, so you could make an informed decision about the purchase.

If you have reported to eBay that an item is a forgery, and they have not processed that information, then "the goods offered by their platform do not conform to current trading standards", which should make them jointly liable for the transaction, and all the negative publicity arising from that fraud.

I just don't want to see another year of your angst "amounting to nothing" (as above), when its clear you are passionate about it, but swimming against the flood waters..... "Put some of that stress back to eBays PR department".

(After all, its eBay that are the problem... this guy is just a minnow using their system, and rules).

Keep up the good work!

The problem with Feedback is of course that only a buyer can leave it. They need to know they have been defrauded with a fake. Most are blissfully unaware.

One of his side accounts was hit with some negatives. I'll try to find that.

The Greek has ended some items early. This may have been due to receiving neg reports, feeling a bit of heat, and wanting to avoid full neg feedback, preserving his 100% rating.

eBay, of course, control the metrics of Feedback. They will bend over backwards to keep buyers buying and sellers selling. The last thing they want is a negative feedback flame war. (Can't even leave neg for a buyer). When they receive a report via "report and item", how much notice to they really take? If one sells something prohibited they pull the item. If it is less than that, they allow it. I suspect they are lowering the bar all the time.

You are totally right of course - eBay is propping up this fellow.

Hi MJ's pet,

Maybe a change of tactics is in order.
Would it be possible to print off a copy of some of his fakes, mark them as "fake" and post them for sale on ebay with the same description but making it clear they are fake and that there are fakes around.

This way, potential buyers will see the fakes alongside the supposed non-fakes and hopefully realise they are being taken for a ride.
