The days of discovery are not over.

I picked up the illustrated 3d GB Jubilee overprint (Zululand 5) which dates from 1888. Looks normal from the front but on inspection is 'overprint double one albino'.

SG have agreed to include it in the next British and Commonwealth Edition of the catalogue as Zululand 5(a)

The price is yet to be assessed but as no other examples have been reported to them in the last 112 years I hope it will be more than the current catalogue value of £35 for the basic stamp!

And to follow on if anyone knows the whereabouts of a New Guinea Undated Birds OS with double overprint one albino which I had listed some years ago let me know! I had thought I would easily find another but sadly none have appeared.

Perhaps this one deserves a thread all for itself? 8-)

.

Agree what a crazy size image - you can load massive 1024 size with the new software - essential for double overprints!

Any cert. for this example :?:

SG would want some certainty before it’s listed.

Copy of the certificate.

I offered to get a new one from the RPSL but they said they were happy with the current one.

Why, if it was certified 27 years ago, has it only just been brought to SG’s attention?

If the privious owner did not informed SG they would have not known the stamp...

Exactly.

I was worried about the age of the certificate but SG said they were happy with it. If you don't tell you don't get.

There are countries where albino overprints are so common they don't list them but SG make a note of which these are. Zululand are not on that list.

Even in Nauru GB Overprints they are very common but still listed.

What sort of separation do the two overprints have? Are they wide apart or very close together? Perhaps you could load up a higher resolution scan so we can try and detect the albino overprint.

I will try. The shift is about 2.5mm upwards and to the right. I don't know whether I am quite techie enough!

Yes, I can make out the albino impression quite easily :)

Unfortunately it does look like the stamp might have deteriorated in condition since it was certified - I'm not sure what the discolouration on the back is (sulphurisation?) but I'm sure it would have been mentioned if it had been present when certified :(

The discolouration is in the gum rather than on the stamp itself. It is perfect from the front. I think I have darkened the image so that you can see the albino print.
