Members will recall that Stanley Gibbons left provision for the Olympic Games Gold Medal winners stamps but at the time there were no details.

I am about to correct that situation. The numbers are 4604-4611. SG only gave the dates as 6-19 August 2017 and I have attempted to find the correct dates for each of the stamps. Should any date be wrong please send me an email and I will correct the item.

In their wisdom Stanley Gibbons have now (G.S.M. April 2017) allocated a number for the minisheet issued at the Canberra Stampshow on 18 March 2016.

The number is MS4554a and details are appended to item 4554.

I've fixed this up to the end of 1948 so far.

All dead images have been replaced with new scans, rather than attempting to recover old scans which were often rather variable in quality. Also, a number of existing scans have been improved with new scans where they were small and/or blurry.

I'll keep chipping away.

Much respect to everyone who has contributed to all these thread rescues - a real demonstration of the spirit of the Stampboards community.

Now fixed to 1976. There are quite a lot of existing scans which are not the best (small and/or blurry), these having been sourced from the web. Replacing these with better scans will be done over time, but is not a current priority.

All PB DoD replacements on this thread have been completed so now is an appropriate time to summarise the status of this AVC (Aussie Visual Catalogue).

 From 1913 to 1981 (SG1 to SG836) the catalogue is complete. Many of the images are not to our liking (too small or poor quality) but every stamp is depicted. The Pom deserves thanks for the hours he has put into this task.

 From the start of 1982 many images previously hosted on servers organised by iomoon are missing. As an example – page 20 has 22 missing images while I have successfully replaced 28. Not all pages are that bad but there are 45 pages still to be finalised.

Work on replacing those items has been proceeding for some months (long before the PB fiasco) but there is still a need to source many replacement images. Any member who feels they are able to help with this task should contact Glen.

 With self-adhesive issues from 2009 to 2016 there are many posts where there are no images at all. Someone needs to assist with those – see my post today on Australia postage stamp images wanted - can YOU assist? http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=27114 .

 Finally, while the heading for this thread refers to 1913-2017 it is only completed to the end of 2016. The wording used in the thread comes from GSM (Gibbons Stamp Monthly) and to date they have only listed a few issues from January 2017. Images of gummed stamps are obtained from the wnsstamps.post website and nothing has appeared yet for 2017 Australian issues.

I have informed Glen that I will not be continuing to update the AVC so a volunteer is needed. Please contact Glen.

Huge effort by Kevin to get us to where we are, much respect is due.

I shall continue to work on replacing the dead images, and will also, in the longer term, look at a general programme of image improvement.

As Kevin says, it's the most recent stuff where we need someone to pick up the baton.

A fantastic job done by Kevin to get it as complete as he has, with help from The Pom, and Michelle and and others.

180,000 page views, and near 4500 posts - very popular thread. :D

Surely we have a member who can update the new issues? :)

I don't mind having a go at adding and editing in better images.

I have the last 6 years of "print proof" images that AP create on their website such as these and can add in actual scans of the printed stamp as they appear. And what was released, production details etc.

ImageImage
ImageImage

Image
Australia Post Jewel Beetles Stamp Issue
Issue date: 6 September 2016

They don't have to be that big, some of the ones I have are A3 sized! Huge.
I would likely also show a more lifesized example as well.

I don't have access to the SG numbers as these are released but they can be added later. I have nearly every Aussie stamp mint so scans are not hard.

Self adhesives are a pain as AP don't show them unless it's only released as self adhesive. I do get some (often uncancelled) in kiloware so can scan them bit by bit and leave space or edit it later?

But I have a couple of questions as to what to try and list - is there a reason to list every variation and "show" overprint of mini-sheets as I don't buy them all?

Is there a reason to make each single stamp a unique post when they can be grouped as a set and captioned accordingly? Google will find them based on the captions. Or can I make each set a "news letter" style post, showing what's released with them - singles, gutters, sheets, booklets etc.

Those images from AP certainly are high quality Greg.

Be great if we can revive this wonderful thread - now that direct loading of images is possible, it will be easier than ever. :)

Any member who is able to assist with scans from their own collection is most welcome to add better images of older issues.

We lost quote a few images of quite common stamps in the great Photobucket disaster, and help adding those back will be welcome! This kind of thing -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=8394&start=1400

I can set you up with Edit access to this thread going back as far as you wish - contact me!

I just went back and added a number of Kangaroo stamps to improve on the images we had there - these are so easy to add now - AND we get to use the new larger 1024 sizes!

Australia Postage Stamp Issues for 2017

I'm going to start listing the issues from 2017 on and for each new year the first issue will have the red header above. This can be used as a word search finder that can take you to the page on this thread where each new year begins.

I'll load smaller "gallery views" to quickly build the listing and then come back and fill in with larger images, scans, tech details, SG numbers etc as the details and releases come to hand.

Further enhancements to this excellent resource will be added to older issues with larger scans. There are many quality images elsewhere on the board that can be copied across and I can also add in a visual guide to DIE, flaw and usage (CTO, OS, some shades etc) :D

I think I've just bitten a tiger.

If you type International into the search box for just this thread, it should give a list that you can work through. But only up to 2016 for now.

Had not thought of searching in just the thread.

BTW our project with the penny black and HD letters is still on the burner - just waiting till a suitable image to start with from the relatives

Rob,

You and everyone else are most welcome to contribute. Based on the message below there are gaps prior to 2017 that need to be filled and gaps from around the middle of 2017 to the present.

Allanswood has taken responsibility for future updates, but I am sure he would welcome assistance.

So my advice is just do it.

Do it by adding large good quality images to the bottom of this thread with a short description (a few words, date of issue and BW and SG numbers if available). A moderator in this area will move the image to the correct location.

Philip

I would encourage members NOT to just go posting random images of stamps as this is an ongoing thread with no end. Images would appear at random spots which will throw out the sequencing of new issues.

A normal plate position WIKI can be set up with a finite posting count as the quantity of stamps is already known, and images can be added after it has been constructed. This is not that sort of listing.

Baz and myself have been adding and updating missing images since taking over, so the previous information is now way out of date.

If someone notices that an older image is not the best then a message would be nice and we can add the better image in.

After all, the intent of the thread is not to make it a highly specialised listing, but a visual guide to the issued stamps of Australia with their corresponding SG numbers when released.

As Kevin has often mentioned the difficulty with recent images is the lack of scans of self adhesive examples of gummed stamps as they don't look the same.

I don't think there is an image missing before 2000 now.
