Still too hot in HK ... mid-20s for the most part, reached 30C on Monday/Tuesday. Supposed to drop to around 17C this time next week. I'll be in Canada for Xmas for the first time in 8 years, I'm afraid my cold tolerance has become weak.

Up to 4" of snow predicted beginning this afternoon, following some rain. Recipe for a slick mess. Just a had a short burst of sleet, but dry now. The sky is very gray, and heavy looking. Windy.

People often mock Melbourne's weather. You know; 'if you don't like it wait 5 minutes' that sort of thing.

Well, Melbourne city is currently at a comfortable 25 degrees C, whilst us mugs out in the Eastern suburbs - a mere 25 km away - are cooking in 40 degree heat

No sea breeze out our way :?

Same here in Sydney yesterday. Out in the western suburbs it was 37 degrees C yet near the coast the north east breeze kept it in the high 20's.

South Australia has felt the heat though with a record breaking period of temperatures over 40 degrees C.

Port Augusta, which is about 130 kms north of me, is now at 45C, that's in the shade..

Out in the open here right now, it's that for sure, and I shudder to think how hot it is inside my Shed

Have none of the hassles they are having in SE Australia. Much cooler in Auckland with partly sunny days with pathetic highs of 18 or 19c. Actually wondering when summer will begin.

It's already 32.5 C at 7:30am, the top is expected to be 40 C with showers in the afternoon.

The bushfire 10Km away is contained but not yet under control.

Our fantastic volunteer firefighters have been working all night and hopefully manage to extinguish it today.

Our plan for today is to stay cool and implement our fire plan if things get out of hand.

There were 300 fires around Victoria yesterday - please stay safe in this heat folks.

Uk is having a very mild day, 16 and 17 degrees in most of England, amazing stuff. It has barely reached 20 here and may get to 23 today.

Spare a thought for those in Balclutha, where it is 9 degrees and most of the South Island south of Queenstown is barely in double figures. It's nearly mid summer. New Zealand is bearing the brunt of all the hot/mild weather everywhere else!

18 degrees with a high of 21 today. It seems the Tasman Sea take 20 degrees tax when all the hot air from Australia crosses it. Our December has been below average with an average high of 20.5 compared to the usual 22.5. We had one day where it got to 26, otherwise every other day has been between 17 and 21.5.
Usually by December 10 it will reach 20 degrees c every day until early April. This year we are still getting days with highs in the teens and they are predicting a high of 18 on Christmas with rain and Southerlies. It seems we are paying for the freak hot weather every where else.

Saw a tweet today which compared the UK temperature map with the same day 5 years ago. Norwich had -11C then, +12C (or higher) now. In some areas the difference was 30 degrees!

Then again I stand corrrected.

Seems the eastern coast of the South Island will get the Australian hot air today, 36 degrees in Blenheim, 34 in Christchurch and Timaru and 32 from Oamaru to Invercargill. This contrasts to yesterday where the area has highs of 9 to 14 degrees. The hot weather will be replaced by more icy rain tomorrow.

Yet the North Island will only reach 26 in the Wairarapa Gisborne Area, the West Coasts of both Islands will see the temperatures barely trouble the 20s. Greymouth in the West Coast of the South Island will have the lowest high of 19 (Parts of the West Coast further south with no stations will get as low as 16). Wellington and New Plymouth will get 21 and Auckland will get a pathetic 22.

Yesterday the heat did come, but Blenheim missed out stalling at 27. Christchurch was the big winner getting 36 degrees, Asburton and Timaru 35, Dunedin 34 and Oamaru 32, even Icy Invercargill got 29.

Auckland got 22.5 and the West Coast got the highs predicted. Funnily enough it is now 13 in Chch, 10 in Invercargill and 11 or 12 in Dunedin, so you have the tropics and Australian Outback one day and back to the Faeroe Islands the next day (Raining in all places there).

Here in Ottawa, we are usually under a foot of snow by now, with temperatures around -5 or -10 celsius.

This year, we have had a few snow flurries only. It is now pouring rain, and about 4 celsius. We are expecting temperatures in the low teens for Christmas eve. These are shattering records and this has been the warmest autumn and winter for us since the Cretaceous era. :D

It's a tad warm outside at the moment here in Subiaco - a suburb of Perth, Western Australia with the mercury sitting on 38.7 degree Celsius (just over 100 degrees Fahrenheit) and clear blue skies. It has been up and down in December but set for some more warm weather in the weeks ahead. Summer is here.

At 8:30am it is already 29.1°C with a fairly strong northerly wind.

The overnight minimum was only 21.7°C.

We are heading for 36°C with a late cool change that will bring thunderstorms.

Great conditions for a bushfire to start. :(

Still a lot warmer than it should be here though they're "hinting" it'll get a lot cooler next week.

Thoughts though for lots of people in the UK who've been flooded out due to the recent record rainfall (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35230696)....there are huge areas of both England & Scotland that are seriously under water.

Cool and cloudy here in northern New Zealand. Had a very wet new years with a months rainfall in a couple of days. Chilly highs of 18 to 20 with mostly cloudy days with little sun. Like a British summer rather than a Pacific one.

Currently in Whangarei its 16 and overcast. Tomorrow it will be 21 and cloudy with showers. Usually this time of year it is 27 and sunny.
