'Earthlings. You have one day to select a leader to represent you all.'

Post by Cill Dara »

So the aliens have finally landed. Turned out to be quite a decent lot but have quite a few calls to make and don't want to miss out on a few days leave the other side of Proxima Centauri.

There was a quick read-out of the Galactic News was that essentially we'd be allowed into the Milky Way Union and access all technological advances available to all members, cure for cancer, free energy, the lot.

One problem. They are in a bit of a hurry. So they want to talk to one recognised human leader. No interest in meeting committees or Chairs of committees. We have 24 hours to run as wide a plebiscite as we can across the world and come up with a single name.

The above has been plagiarised from a local Politics Forum. 8-)

I nominate Angela Merkel, the effective leader of the European Union and good all round lass.

What a great question.

I'd go for the Dalai Lama or Jacinda Ardern

Jacinta Ardern has featured as a popular choice on the Forum here in Ireland.

My pragmatic choice is summarised by this post.......

"Mutti Merkel.

Looks like an alien, understands quantum physics, dolefully gets on with the daily slog of giving us undeserving meatbags a better life and knows the consequences of starting a war. "

I doubt if her Brexiters would be interested in The Milky Way Union.

Anyway, the Aliens represent an advanced society and would consider Monarchs to reside somewhere between archaic and primeval.

Well, compared to the "elected idiots" in many parts of the world I'm sure they'd prefer a Monarch to a President. Or for that matter an unelected Dictator, Archbishop, Pope, Imam, Rabbi or Lama.

Sorry, wrong buddy, but nothing new there. ;)

Astronomy & Astrophysics was my subject through university although I had to hop over to computing for ongoing employment, devoured SF pretty much all my life, travelled extensively, delved deeply into world history, anthropology and current politics, etc.

But put one cross on a piece of paper because I don't want our generally ineffective politicians to be able to hide behind yet another layer of barely unaccountable bureaucrats and quangos dogmatically trying to turn a free trade area into a neocolonial supranational entity while turning a blind eye to the heightened instabilities that causes for relatively few benefits and you somehow immediately know everything about myself (and others), pigeonholed conveniently as a series of unchangeable yes/no answers.

Are you going to insist on political sniping of every response that disagrees with your own personal ethos as usual or can we just enjoy what sounds like a fun topic; for which, thank you! 8-)

Anyhow...

Not that I'm overly fond of the man but let's be boring and go with Elon Musk because he's already well enough known, not stupid and would hopefully be able to remain open-minded to obtain the best overall results for humanity as a whole without giving the aliens too many reasons to nuke us all from orbit.

He'd also hopefully be able to figure out what - if anything - the aliens want from us...

I doubt we're interesting enough for reality VR broadcasts, especially when behaviours driven by resource conflicts are taken out of the equation. :!:

Been thinking about this and couldn't come up with anyone I would actually trust with the safety of our Planet. Then I saw castores post above. But, I would go for David Attenborough not Dicky. He would be perfect I think.

The Milky Way Union has been monitoring all of our transmissions, and have decided not to invite us into their union.

However, if I had to choose one person, I'd pick Donald Trump Jr.

Just cut to the chase and let them know we have a long way to go before they trust us with all their technological advances.

Unfortunately the person I would choose has left this mortal coil. Author of over 500 books, and he could (and did) write about any subject, and Associate Professor of Biochemistry at Boston University, the late Isaac Asimov.

The average IQ of a room full of people would go up several points when he walked in.

I suppose it fully depends on where they stand as a society.

We chose Gandhi, they chose Genghis.

We chose Genghis, they chose Jerry.

We chose God, they chose Godzilla.

We chose Godzilla, they chose George.

What chance does that leave us of getting it right?

We chose Life, they chose Liver.

(ps. any confusion regarding Jerry or George, refer 'Seinfeld')

Well the aliens are off on their holiday now the day has passed.

We weren't organised enough to confirm a choice.

We will just have to muddle along without them.

Perhaps we should have sent one of our more useless political leaders with them as a zoo specimen.

@Tim_McCready
The world's most eloquent leaders, according to Acuity Training:

1. Jacinda Ardern
2. Angela Merkel
3. Narendra Modi
4. Justin Trudeau
5. Nicola Sturgeon
6. Mette Frederiksen
7. Emmanuel Macron
8. Erna Solberg
9. Giuseppe Conte
10. Scott Morrison

The Irish Forum shows Jacinta or Angela as the choices to represent the World.

Professional development coaches from the Development Academy wing of Acuity Training compiled the list after reviewing more than 100 hours of footage from press conferences, speeches and other public addresses throughout 2020.

Speaking about Scotland’s First Minister they said: “Nicola Sturgeon has received a lot of praise for her response to the coronavirus pandemic – and it’s not hard to see why.
“She is clear, calm and compassionate, is not afraid to be tough or emotional, and she has a great sense of humour.
“There’s no sense of performance with Sturgeon – she is very real.”

They described Prime Minister Boris Johnson as a “very unique public speaker”, saying: “Unlike many of his colleagues, the former foreign secretary and mayor of London has had a tendency to forgo pauses in favour of muttering or waffling, and his use of odd or obscure references often left people confused about his message.

This thread is drifting off topic...

In answer to the OP I would suggest a council of three, an indigenous chief from the Amazon rain forest, a native chief from equatorial Africa, and an Inuit leader from far north Alaska or
Canada.
