I have now shown the postmarks from 14 different places in Colorado, including ones from some small & obscure towns. But of the 10 biggest cities in Colorado , I have only been able to show you 3 on first day.

The 10 biggest cities in Colorado are:

1. Denver
2. Colorado Springs
3. Aurora
4. Fort Collins
5. Lakewood
6. Thornton
7. Arvada
8. Pueblo
9. Centennial
10. Boulder

Does anyone have any of the towns in red :?:

A recent acquisition from ebay, not first day but for JFK's 48th Birthday. The cachet design replicates an unknown cachet in Mellone number #184.
Image
The reverse has printed on the back "Daniel Dobbins Chapter":
Image
I asked the eseller, who has a feedback rating of over 14,000, what was the "Daniel Dobbins Chapter".

His reply was:

I can only give you my best guess on this one from years of experience.......

In many cases, there are chapters of organizations within a society or group. Same thing for many FDC's or topical stamp covers.

Groups would then "sponsor" a cacheted envelope and produce it for sale, fundraiser, awareness, gift for members, etc.

In this cover's case, I would assume the "Daniel Dobbins Chapter" sponsored and created this cachet on the cover, as the type style front and back are the same. If memory serves me, this Dobbins was a navy admiral or officer, at the beginning of the US Navy roots?

From wikipedia:

Daniel Dobbins (January 5, 1776 – February 29, 1856) was a sailing master in the United States Navy and captain in the United States Revenue Cutter Service. He fought in the War of 1812 and was in charge of the building of the ships at Erie, Pennsylvania that Oliver Hazard Perry commanded in the Battle of Lake Erie.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Dobbins
Perhaps this identifies this unknown cachetmaker in Mellone. What does everyone else think :?:

While looking at my Granbys in Connecticut, I found there with also Granbys in New York.

Granby:

North Granby:

East Granby:

West Granby:

Note there is no South Granby in Connecticut. The area that is south of Granby is called Simsbury. South Granby is actually in New York along with another Granby & West Granby & Granby Center.

Can anyone me with Granby, Granby Centre, West Granby & South Granby from New York, so I can add them to my collection. :)

I have now shown the postmarks from 18 different places in Colorado, including ones from some small & obscure towns. But of the 10 biggest cities in Colorado , I have only been able to show you 6 on first day.

The 10 biggest cities in Connecticut are:

1. Bridgeport
2. New Haven
3. Hartford
4. Stamford
5. North Stamford Post Office closed 1901
6. Waterbury
7. Norwalk
8. East Norwalk Post Office closed 1898
9. Danbury
10. New Britain

If anyone can help me the towns in red it would be greatly appreciated.

However I do find it rather odd that two on this list do not currently have a post office unless of course it is called something else.

I have a series of JFK covers for the 5th Anniversary of his Assassination with cachets showing "Famous Newspaper Front Pages" from North America. I have seen the following & there may be more:

Berea Ohio The News
Boston Massachusetts Boston Herald - Traveler
Brockton Massachusetts Brockton Enterprise
Cleveland Ohio Cleveland Plain - Dealer
Dayton Ohio Dayton Journal - Herald
Detroit Michigan Detroit News
Flint Michigan The Flint Journal
Halifax Nova Scotia Canada Halifax Chronicle Herald
Hamilton Ontario Canada The Hamilton Spectator
Jackson Mississippi Jackson Daily News
Omaha Nebraska Omaha World - Herald
Providence Rhode Island Providence Bulletin
Shreveport Louisiana The Shreveport Times
Tulsa Oklahoma Tulsa Tribune
Washington DC Army Times
Image
Firstly does any one know who "mb" the cachet maker is :?:

"mb" could be Mike Boyar or Michael Billerth or some one else.

Does any one know :?:

Secondly, & ideally I would like to have these cachets postmarked in their "home town" with a JFK stamp affixed. However I know this will be pretty difficult. So does any one have any of these cachets that they would like to part with ?

Bazza4338 has just identified for me that Morris Beck is the mb notated on the cachet above. :D

It appears that the cachet may have been applied after the stamps were affixed.

But hopefully still before postmarking.

As you have seen, on my JFK thread, I have only shown Washington D.C. (not all as flash as the one below) & it may surprise that there have been at 123 Post Offices in D.C. of which 44 were open at the time that JFK (Scott 1246) was issued.
Image
Those 44 include:

Andrews Air Force Base
Benjamin Franklin
Customs House
National Airport
Naval Research Lab
Pentagon
Treasury
US Naval Station

So if anyone sees these please let me know.

I always like places named after me:
Image
I knew there were one or two places named Bradford in the USA but I didn't know of this one in Rhode Island.

There are also ones in:

Arkansas
California
Iowa
Indiana
Massachusetts
Maine
New Hampshire
New York
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Tennessee
Virginia
Vermont

Looks like there are more than one or two :)

Sometimes I wonder who designs what:
Image
Now did the US or Argentina design this cover & did they add on or take off the extra printing next to "first day cover" at the bottom of the Argentina fdc :?:
Image
Image
So did the US then copy this 2017 stamp from Argentina :?:
Image
Now I wonder where prolific add on cachetmaker, Jerry Myers of Shelby Township, Michigan, found the idea for this recent add on cachet for this "old" fdc :?:

I notice there are many of the Scott 1246 JFK fdcs turning up with JFKs 100th Birthday stamp added. This one I bought because I didn't have Wilkinson.
Image
Image
However I wasn't sure what state it was. Jim Forte helped me out with a list of the Wilkinsons:

Connecticut Windham County Wilkinson (1844-1849)
Georgia Hancock County Fort Wilkinson (1798-1806)
Georgia Liberty County Wilkinson (1882-1884)
Illinois Jackson County Wilkinson (1887-1888)
Indiana Hancock County Wilkinson (1883-Date)
Kansas Wichita County Wilkinson (1887/1905)
Minnesota Cass County Wilkinson (1910-1954)
Mississippi Wilkinson County Wilkinson (1881/1955)
Tennessee Hardin County Wilkinson (1848-1849)
Tennessee Rutherford County Wilkinson's Cross Roads (1833-1840)
Texas Bell County Wilkinson's (1879-1881)
Texas Titus County Wilkinson (1888-1914)
Virginia Chesterfield County Wilkinson's Shop (1840-1846)
West Virginia Logan County Wilkinson (1915-Date)

So it would seem that from this list there were only two open in 1964, Indiana & West Virginia. I think the one above is from Indiana. Does everyone agree :?:

Just in the middle of repairing my JFK fdc thread when I repaired this entry:

The Pekin Municipal Airport has been serving Pekin since 1964. The Airport has a 5,000 Ft. long by 75 Ft. wide paved & lit runway.
Image
Unknown cachet for the opening the "Pekin Municipal Airport" on May 24, 1964. It is unclear why cover is cancelled in Boston rather than Pekin.

I would dearly love to have this "Pekin Municipal Airport fdc with JFK postmarked "Pekin, Illinois".

Is anyone able to assist :?:

An interesting JFK cinderella I recently found:
Image
On Tuesday, November 8, 1960, in a closely contested election, Democrat John F. Kennedy defeated incumbent Vice President Richard Nixon, the Republican Party nominee. This was the first election in which all fifty states participated, as well as the first election in which an incumbent president was ineligible to run for another term due to the Twenty-second Amendment.

Nixon faced little opposition in the Republican race to succeed popular incumbent Dwight D. Eisenhower. Kennedy, a Senator from Massachusetts, established himself as the Democratic front-runner with his strong performance in the 1960 Democratic primaries, including a key victory in West Virginia over Senator Hubert Humphrey. He defeated Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson on the first presidential ballot of the 1960 Democratic National Convention, and asked Johnson to serve as his running mate.

A recent pick up & a little wacky & Abraham Lincoln has fallen over from what is written on the outside of the cover:

- Withdraw recognition from USSR
- Repeal Wages Cut
- Repeal 16th (Income Tax) Amendment
- Kill Krazy Krop Kartals
Image
If this was on the outside I wonder what was on the inside & did the FBI come & take him away :?:

An interesting batch of JFK Fleetwood fdcs, all from Bay County, Florida & all unaddressed. These are the only Fleetwood fdcs I have from Florida so it makes sense they were prepared by the same person:

Perhaps there was a collector or dealer in Panama City. Does anyone know :?:

I have posed a few questions about collectors & cachet makers on the Board including this one "HDW", see rubber stamp in right hand corner below:

Now I believe I know the identity of "HDW" AAMS #3916:

In 1963, US President John F. Kennedy, acting under authorisation granted by an Act of Congress, proclaimed him an Honorary Citizen of the United States. Churchill watched the ceremony via Satellite as he was too ill to travel.

Robert Rank Local Post souvenir cover for the 3rd Anniversary of the awarding of Sir Winston Churchill with US Citizenship & cancelled with the fdi Map of Great Briatain postmark in magenta & JFK stamp cancelled with nice Satellite Beach 4 bar cds hand cancel on April 9th, 1966.

It has a pair of the Winston Churchill local post stamps affixed, Satellite Beach in Red & Green & Cape Kennedy in Green & Red. I have not seen a similar cover postmarked at Cape Canaveral & in fact this is the only example of these stamps I have seen on cover.

Can anyone help me out here please :?:

I have now shown the postmarks from 42 different places in Florida, including ones from some small & obscure towns. But of the 10 biggest cities in Florida, I have only been able to show you 5 on first day.

The 10 biggest cities in Florida by population are:

1. Jacksonville 868031
2. Miami 441003
3. Tampa 369075
4. Orlando 270934
5. Saint Petersburg 257083
6. Hialeah 207069
7. Tallehasse 189907
8. Fort Lauderdale 178590
9. Cape Coral 175229
10. Pembroke Pine 166611

The ones in red are the ones I don't have. Can anyone help me with any of these :?:

I have just revisited Georgia where I have shown the postmarks of 10 places from Georgia, but I still have a way to go to find the 10 largest towns by population in this state:

1. Atlanta
2. Augusta
3. Columbus
4. Savannah
5. Athens
6. Macon
7. Sandy Springs
8. Roswell
9. Johns Creek
10. Warner Robins

The ones in blue I have, can some one help me out with the others, please.
