That's where the dreamer money is atm. It's like a contagion since one joker listed some used common KGVI definitive on eBay months ago and now everyone finds they have one in the old school-boy album which they expect $10k for once they list it. :x .

I used to do an ebay search by highest value first, but now all you get is dreamer dross from that search.

Someone is about to purchase this gem on eBay:
Counterfeit Chalon.png
There are a few other genuine stamps in the lot, but if they're hoping the above in genuine they're in for disappointment

Here's the link:

And, to be fair to the seller, they say in the description that they have doubts about that Chalon.

Someone has just bid £633 for a modern reproduction of GB £5 orange telegraph stamp. The seller states "WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET IF ONE STAMP IN PICTURED THAT IS WHAT YOU GET I do not own a catalog or a watermark tool or even a perf gauge I make no claims to the identity of any stamp just an occasional scott number other than the country the stamp is from"

DAMN !!!! and out of the 12 bidders 4 bid OVER £400 !!!! :o

Never a good sign when they say "Found in inheritance album"

I'll have to keep my eye on this to see if the buyer leaves positive feedback

Did the buyer not realize that this is a modern reproduction?
Viewing the back does not even have any sign of the watermark these stamps ought to have.
£633,00 for a reproduction?. The seller is smiling all the way to the bank. And I do believe they know exactly what they are selling, regardless of what the description says. It's all part of their strategy.
Be like a postage stamp. Stick to one thing until you get there.

I’m sure the seller does know. But the novices (including me) can easily get lost thinking there’s a bargain. Not that I have that much money. I read another thread about a seller called roostamps, selling false used items, well done to the person there who called them out.

FakeBay lives up to its name with this fake merchant - aret--41 - £633 via 23 bids from brain dead cretins.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354753626368

The MORON bidders were out in force on a modern NO WATERMARK £5 Orange QV Telegraph with a very clearly fake cancel. These have THREE clear watermark impression on each stamp of course.

QV TELEGRAPHS High Value £5 Orange Superb 1881

Found in inheritance album
NO CERTIFICATE
Bought as pictures

On 30-Apr-23 at 19:56:21 BST, seller added the following information:

WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET IF ONE STAMP IN PICTURED THAT IS WHAT YOU GET I do not own a catalog or a watermark tool or even a perf gauge I make no claims to the identity of any stamp just an occasional scott number orther than the country the stamp is from PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION IT IS THE BUYERS RESPONSIBILITY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND THE ITEM PAGE IN FULL.

Now the FakeBay spiv aret--41 has moved onto KEVII with this similar joke on copy paper it looks like. Dipped in tea, to try and make it look a bit old. It is up to £10 and 'has not met reserve' so he clearly is Bunny Hunting.

Sole description is -

'A Fount in an album 1941 of Major'

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/354772380121

Please report this to seller aret--41 - request he amend heading to say REPLICA, as clearly required by ebay rules, and ask him to cancel sale on the £5, and re-offer that as a REPRODUCTION, and also report it to FakeBay ... these purveyor of fakes such as aret--41 must be nipped in the bud early.

Asking $1900 for a stamp worth less that $1.
Further down the page the seller says it has been hinged.

If this was really worth 80,000 euro one might be disaapointed that it was entrusted to a delivery service costing only 7 euro.

In fact, not including free local postage seems somewhat Scrooge-like. That one eleven thousandth profit curtailed must be really important.

Only one of these is a 1 penny red, and they're worth about a penny. Otherwise spot on from sunshinepine, who has clearly been out in the sun for a bit too long.

Perhaps we should give a rating for each dreamer based on price divided by value (obviously need to exclude things that are truly worthless !). How about this one at 6000:1 ?
KGVI 2½d - Yours for only £300
KGVI 2½d - Yours for only £300

A nice rating suggestion by Jon E. However, rather than reward the dreamers' inflated prices with inflated ratings, it might be more appropriate to use the formula

Screenshot 2023-05-29 at 6.39.40 pm.png
.
That would yield
.
Reliability = 0.00167
.
for the offering
