Registered 2000 Tristan Da Cunha Airmail Cover:REDUCED AUD$10

Post by Catweazle »

'Scuse the strange lighting. Not sure what happened there at this hour! Anyway, up for sale here to a good home is this delightful registered airmail cover, addressed to the Southern suburb of Hobart there, all the way from Tristan da Cunha in the Southern Atlantic Ocean!

Featuring a lovely registered barcode sticker label on the reverse. Complete with the 50p Cutty Sark and 2 x 15p Lifeboat Under Oars issues, as you can see. Postmarked now twenty three years ago on 2000-06-13. Opened roughly along the top edge.

Yours for just the price of what a G & T cost me at the Airshow the other day – AUD$15 with FREE global postage! Payment can be made via Paypal or bank transfer. Feel free to contact me direct with any further enquiries: bjcoops [at] hotmail etc

Tristan da Cunha is one of the smallest and least inhabited islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It is a British Overseas Territory, along with the likes of St. Helena and Ascension Island, and boasts a population of only 300 people, which is even less than Lord Howe Island! See here on the map below:

A tiny pin prick in the middle of nowhere, see. At just 12kms in diameter you can imagine that genuine postal history is not all that common. There are no regular flights, and most supplies or outgoing mail leave by ship – a journey of almost 3000 km to Cape Town! However, the Tristan da Cunha stamp issues have always been popular with collectors and they regularly release new issues every year. I hope I can be forgiven fr adding, for search purposes, that it has a South African Post Office (SAPO) barcode label on the reverse which is applied to INCOMING and transit mail only. I doubt that many of these are retained on transit mail and most would still be in South Africa.

I hope that helps, it’s a nice piece.
