Robert,
His scan of the watermark, posted previously, shows it is 3rd. The colour and perfs are indicative of 4th. I believe the 3rd overprint ink was purple; not evident on the pair.

Re: NWPI stamp overprints discussion - the various Settings etc
Ron_Ball is at it again with a badly scanned assortment of NWPI issues which includes a 1d on 5d surcharge.

From the overprint it can be seen that the stamp is from position 12 on the NWPI Pane. Comparing this with the 'control' pane (which is constant throughout) it is obviously a fake One Penny surcharge. Laughable. The O of One is circular in the forged overprint and the Penny is all over the place.

As an aside from The overprint forme I show the very scarce Deulon registration label overprinted Kokopo in violet. Andrew Loughran did not have a copy in his work on the registrations labels of New Guinea which I am currently editing. It has been added to the images and main text. This is offered by Classicphil of Vienna in their upcoming December auction at a reserve of 400 euros (they mistakenly compare it to the registration labels surcharged GRI 3d)

Re: NWPI stamp overprints discussion - the various Settings etc
Robert,
That block is interesting. The name of the locality of Herbertshohe was not altered until mid to late 1916 as seen in the date-stamp of the new name not introduced until early 1917. Assuming a lead time of several months to have it engraved then sent to Rabaul the decision to revert Herbertshohe to Kokopo would have been later in 1916.
Why were these Deulon labels held in storage for 2 years prior to their conversion?

Re: NWPI stamp overprints discussion - the various Settings etc
There is no information in Andrew's book other than a LKD of 31st December 1918, with no start date. I don't have any record of this label being used and I don't know where Andrew gets his dates from. Have I sent you a PDF of the work yet? I thought I had. I had it printed off for Gordon who has sent me more examples missing from Andrew's work. This label is Loughran No 32.
I agree they must have been held for some time although I must check to see if I can find a similar label with Rabaul overprint and note the date. They may just have been 'found'. Those Deulon labels overprinted GRI 3d are extremely rare. I have not seen a dated one although the date SG gives is January 1915. The Deulon overprinted Rabaul labels were in use between November 1918 and January 1919 which is consistent with the date given for Kokopo.

Robert,
You did send me a copy of Loughran's registration label list but I neglected to create a shortcut on my desktop.
Apologies.
I do not recall ever seeing it used. The Rabaul overprint, yes!

Rod
I don't know where Andrew gets his LKD of 31st December 1918 as I have no record of the Deulon/Kokopo label on cover (which is the only way we are going to know). As you say there are EKD and LKD for the Rabaul.
I am lucky to have a function on my laptop which enables me to find anything on it immediately by keyword.

Robert,
I will search my scan library re: covers. I never focussed on Kokopo other than those with censor markings. Might not have anything. Searching Prestige/Abacus and Millennium could be onerous at minimum.

Re: NWPI stamp overprints discussion - the various Settings etc
Robert,
Here is a copy of Loughran's type 31 from my collection. It is off an Ackland philatelic cover showing Andrew's latest known usage (-7OC18) - the alteration from NSW is typewritten not overprinted: Below is a copy of type 33 I have a scan of from Phoenix's sale 27 Lot 1743. Note the registration number is the same as Loughran's but....the date of the cover is 5JUN1925 not JUL. You probably should resolve this with Andrew.
I can forward you scans of these labels if you wish. I have no other scans in my library from any other auction listings of KOKOPO. The Deulon overprinted KOKOPO is a conundrum since it appears that Kokopo post office added their own numbers to labels from other post offices therefore the lack of renumbered Deulon labels could be significant.
I have numerous GNG labels used with NWPI from Eitape, Morobe etc and the Gasmatta cover Andrew shows. Do you wish to have better scans of any of these labels if you are updating his checklist? I can give you an listing of my labels and scan at a high resolution.
Here's a better KOKOPO:

Robert,
Did you ever save scans of those 2 or 3 TNG vertical strips of 5(?) that, I believe, Phoenix auctioned off a couple of years ago? I never did. One set was from Buka Passage.
