Post by anarkii2 »

I have a green 2d stamp with a cancel mark of 60 is this Mt Direction?

Also I have no clue which SG number the stamp is - would anyone know without knowing the watermarks?

Given the stamp, I'm more inclined to believe the "60" refers to its first allocation to Launceston.

Sorry, can't help with SG numbers. From memory, this should only have been issued with a large star watermark?

Its First Allocation 60 of Launceston as McGooley says. Its one of the most common of the First allocation numerals as you would expect coming from the second largest population centre in Tasmania at the time.

It could be Star Wm, No Wm or double-lined numeral 2 Wm.

Numeral 60 for Mt Direction was issued in the Second allocation of barred numerals in 1861 and is very rare.

Hi tascollector,

do you have a picture of a genuine "Mt. Direction" numeral 60?

Greetings

I'm yet to be able to check watermarks.

From the colour I'd say NO watermark.

If you collect States and cannot tell watermarks you really need to pick another area!
