Stamp Cinderellas & Local Posts - Superb Online Reference Site

Post by Lakatoi 4 »

I thought it would be appropriate to have a link to a superb reference site remain at the very top of this forum.

It is perhaps the best online resource I have found for Cinderella's and Local Posts (including bogus types).

And the link is just a single click away:

'LOCAL POSTS OF THE WORLD'

Hi,

More information about Channel Island Cinderella and Local Posts can be found at:

http://www.ciss1950.org.uk

It's the website for the Channel Islands Specialists' Society, this is their 6oth year, and was celebrated in Guernsey a couple of weekends ago. They have a forum on there if you need any questions answered, probably by me, I am the webmaster for the Society,

Hi Brummie,

'Fraid so, but the info on APDS is a bit limited, probably the best publication is 'Stamps of Alderney' by Peter E Newell, first published in 1982, Second Edition in 1988. ISBN : 0 948251 33 6, which is the old format, there are now 16 numbers to an ISBN.

I don't know whether there is a new ISBN or not, but this has been out of print for some years now, but they do come up now and again in auctions,

Does anyone else collect United States test stamps? I'm interested in any and all U.S. test stamps - coils, booklets, convertible booklets, ATM panes, or sheet stamps.

Below is a photo of a dummy booklet pane produced by the Bureau of Engraving about 35 years ago (but just listed for the first time in the 2012 Scott Catalogue as TDB46b). Notice the pane has tete-beche pairs at the bottom. Sorry - I only have this one copy.

This is a fascinating forum to peruse. I plan to spend many more hours here.

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate thing to do but have just come across a resource that might be of interest to others and thought I'd share it. It is a low budget but seemingly inexpensive bulletin to which one can subscribe called POSTER STAMP BULLETIN edited by Walter Schmidt who is listed as a reference author on the stampshows.com site.

The full info is:

The Poster Stamp Bulletin
Walter Schmidt, Editor
3654 Upper Applegate Road
Jacksonville, Or. 97530 USA

I'm looking at the latest copy of that right now and it says "dues" are $20 - $30 dollars. Nowhere do I see a website listing.

I hope this is helpful to someone. :?: :?:

I know they are out there I need one for my collection and postal strike exhibit. Also any infomation on 1953 french postal strike covers? The 1953 french maybe a cinderella stamp as the strike lasted a week and no used versions are available.

In case anyone is interested for the last 12 years I have been working on and producing CD catalogues of "unofficial" "locals", "cinderellas" or whatever you want to call them from around the world.

I have so far issued 18 different catalogues and am now working on 2 further ones.

Anyone interested in further information can contact me either through this site, or directly at [email protected]

Hi. second post on this board and maybe you maybe able to help me. Not sure if I am on the right thread, or not. I collect mainly Australian Pre decimal, Australian Cinderellas, Liberty loan bond stamps, war savings & booklets etc. I have the six 'Delandre' stamps.

Unfortunately, I just missed out on a set of 12 War Chest Stamps on eBay...'Buy it Now' sale....they went for $300 (maybe that's why) I am still on the look-out for a set of these stamps, if anyone can help, also the varying types of Liberty Loan Labels. Thanks....Shane

In case it isn’t clear in the following post, “BEP” is the abbreviation used for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

The “BCA” that a reader wondered about is what was printed on the Parrot test stamp I described in the post the writer was referring to - it was printed by “Banknote Corporation of America”

Many of you have seen this Cinderella souvenir sheet that was handed out to visitors to the United States Post Office’s Philatelic Truck that toured the country between May 9, 1939 and December 13, 1941. It was printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) from a pair of ten-subject intaglio rotary press plates on a Stickney press in 1939. Each plate had a six-digit plate number (141069 or 141070) from the BEP’s miscellaneous series. The plate number was located in the upper right corner of each plate, about 1/4” away from the finished edge of the panes. Examples of plate numbers showing on miscut panes (both gummed and ungummed) exist, but are very rare.

The two plates that printed the Philatelic Truck panes were two sheetlets wide and five sheetlets around. There was a plate joint line printed in the gutter between the two plates. After the web was printed, it was gummed (on only the initial printing), and then the two outside margins were trimmed off and the roll split in half make two smaller coil rolls, each containing 500 sheets. Those small rolls were mounted in a scale model of a Stickney printing press inside the Philatelic Truck, and the attendant would advance the roll so that it was fed thru the press - he then cut off single sheetlets to pass out to visitors.

Some of the visitors stuck their gummed panes on any available surface after their tour - store windows, cars, even the Philatelic Truck. Because of that, the second two printings were left ungummed. A total of 173,220 gummed sheets were produced (not all were distributed), and 556,820 ungummed sheets were produced.

Sheets with portions of the plate joint line can be found, but are not as common as you might expect.
